8/10

Mørkeland is a very well made sequel to "Kongekabale"

Having watched the predecessor "Kongekabale" a long time ago, I was interested to see how they've carried the story on. The sequel movie "Mørkeland" is just an exact continuation of the same story but with a new and similar plotline within the world of politics.

The plot this time around is mostly just like "Kongekabale" which makes the movie less of an original story, but nonetheless it does get you intrigued in the story... It did for me. I was interested and surprised at times to find out what really was happening in the movie. The story was alright, but nothing over the top.

This movie just shows the great qualities from Anders W. Berthelsen as Ulrik Torp. He shows every bit of quality and just gives a great performance. While other characters were alright as well.... None of them played up to Anders W. Berthelsen quality.

Mørkeland shows very promising signs of a great movie, but is downgraded for it unoriginal plotline that closely follows its predecessor. But is again carried massively by the great performance from Anders W. Berthelsen. Therefore a final rating of 8/10.

Fantastic Political Thriller

Mørkeland is a fantastisk on your edge Political thriller taking place in the Kingdom, it is the followup to Kongekabale (King's Game) released in 2004, and once again we follow the same journalist Ulrik Torp trying to uncover timely scandals such as election fraud.

The movie offers a smorgasbord of national renowned actors and succeed with the help of the rather dark scenes and ominous soundtrack to drum up a really good appalling story that even people in the US will like.

If I have to criticize this sequel it would be that Henrik Moll played by famed actor Nicolas Bro and who helped Torp in the first movie is taking a backseat and not really helping at all, it would have been really nice to see the old Duo back at the game.

None the less one if not the best Danish movie to come out in 2024.

Alan Pakula or Sidney Pollack could have made it

A political thriller that reminds me the American movies of this kind of scheme and made in the seventies and even eighties: PARALLAX VIEW and ALL THE PRESIDENTS MEN. I don't think there will be many audiences though for this movie. Anyway, films from Scandinavia make less gross than Hollywood stuff. This is a good film, a quality and certainly not garbage material. It is never boring, though not an action flick. If you crave for political thrillers, you deal with one here. A real one, and from another point of view, made with another manner than the Hollywood or ven French one. The ending is an anti climax and I think it could have been far better.
