Virgin River returned to small screens for its sixth season on Thursday, December 19, but unfortunately, as the beloved show moves forward, series regular Mark Ghanimé won’t be involved anymore. Deadline reports that showrunner Patrick Sean Smith confirmed Ghanimé’s exit from Virgin River in an earlier interview with the outlet, addressing Seasons 6 and 7 crucial questions. Besides the romantic drama, Ghanimé is also known for his lead role on the Syfy series Helix and is currently seen starring in the Hallmark Mystery holiday movie A Dance in the Snow.

The news is not surprising. After Ghanimé’s character Cameron reconnected with his ex-fiancee in the Season 5 finale, he has barely been on the show, only making a couple of trips to Virgin River in Season 6 from San Diego where the two are trying to rebuild their relationship.

Cameron’s last scene in the Season 6 finale felt like a farewell when he declined a dance with former flame Muriel to head back home, promoting her to ask (for all of us), “So this is goodbye?”

Recently an article from Giant Freaking Robot popped up that caught my eye. In it, the author talks about a former SyFy series called "Helix". The show was a science fiction horror series and was helmed by legendary writer Ronald D. Moore. The famed sci-fi genius, who made Star Trek and Battlestar Galactica into must-sees was trying his hand at a new genre and its first season went as well as you could hope.

It was your run-of-the-mill zombie story, that featured Star Trek alum Billy Campbell (Thadiun Okona) and famed character actor Hiroyuki Sanada. Kyra Zagorsky, who had a run for a while with various sci-fi and supernatural shows, also co-starred. The show had some heft to its writing, with Steven Maeda, famed X-Files writer. With the actors of high quality and some of the best writers the world of sci-had to see, it looked like the show would be a slam dunk.

Billy Campbell portrayed Captain Thadiun Okona in one episode of Star Trek: The Next Generation, but has returned to the franchise in animated form. Billy Campbell began acting in the mid-1980s, landing his first significant television role on Dynasty in 1984. Campbell went on to costar as Detective Joey Indelli in Crime Story before appearing in Star Trek: The Next Generation season 2, episode 4, "The Outrageous Okona." Campbell landed the leading role in Disney's The Rocketeer in 1991 and also portrayed a vampire hunter in Bram Stoker's Dracula in 1992.

Billy Campbell continued to appear in popular films and television shows throughout the 1990s and beyond. From 1999 to 2002, Campbell starred alongside Sela Ward in the Emmy-winning Once and Again. Campbell also appeared in episodes of Law & Order: Svu and The Oc, and had a regular role on The 4400. Campbell portrayed Darren Richmond in The Killing, Dr. Alan Farragut in Helix, and John Cardinal in Cardinal.

Former General Hospital star Nicholas Alexander Chavez has gone on to great acclaim with his Netflix shows Grotesquerie and his dream job, Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story. The actor, who took a hilarious turn in the 2022 film Crushed, has enjoyed his horror success. Now, he’s diving into a new scary project linked to a fan-favorite 1990s franchise.

The film concerns “Four young friends bound by a tragic accident are reunited when they find themselves being stalked by a hook-wielding maniac in their small seaside town,” per IMDb.

Producer and author Lynda Obst, of Sleepless In Seattle, The Fisher King and Contact fame, has died after an illness.

A morning of not very nice news today, as we learn that producer Lynda Obst has died, at the age of just 74.

Obst produced and executive produced films such as Flashdance, Sleepless In Seattle, Contact, Interstellar, The Fisher King and Adventures In Babysitting. She also penned a couple of outstanding books about her time in the film industry, namely Hello, He Lied and Sleepless In Hollywood: Tales From The New Abnormal In The Movie Business.

Obst appeared on a special interview episode in April 2021, and it was striking how forward she was in her thinking, bringing up such topics as quantum computing and how that might affect the movie industry.

Lynda Obst, who had producing credits on high-profile films including “Sleepless in Seattle,” “Flashdance” and “Adventures in Babysitting,” died Tuesday in Los Angeles. She was 74.

“I was immensely proud of her. She was a trailblazer for women in the industry at a time when it was very difficult for women to have prominent roles. She was passionate about her work but even more passionate about her family,” her brother, WME’s Rick Rosen, said to Variety.

Obst told the Hollywood Reporter earlier this year that she had been battling chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.

Most recently, she served as producer or executive producer on TV series including “The Hot Zone,” “Good Girls Revolt,” “Hot in Cleveland” and “Helix.” Obst’s final feature producing credit was Christopher Nolan’s “Interstellar” in 2014. Among her other credits were “How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days,” “Hope Floats,” “Bad Girls” and “The Fisher King.

“God of War” marks Moore’s first big TV project since returning to Sony Pictures Television in June under a new multi-year deal. He had left the company in 2021 for Disney’s 2oth Television. Ronald D. Moore is returning to Sony Pictures Television after inking a new multi-year deal with the studio. He’d left in 2021 for Disney’s 20th Television but is now returning to his former studio home.

Under the partnership, his Tall Ship Productions banner will develop and produce scripted series for cable and streaming platforms with longtime collaborators Maril Davis and Ben McGinnis.

Moore, who previously worked at the studio 2010-2020, developed and executive produced Apple TV+’s “For All Mankind” and Starz’s “Outlander.” He also serves as an executive producer on “Outlander” spin-off “Blood of My Blood,” which is currently in production, and “For All Mankind” spin-off “Star City.” Other credits during his previous tenure at Sony include executive producer on the anthology series “Philip K. Dick’s Electric Dreams” and the original series “Helix.”

Hawley’s latest series is an untitled legal drama, hailing from Natalie Callaghan — the fourth born of out the former TV powerhouse’s overall deal with eOne. The streaming service canceled Partner Track and The Imperfects.

Partner Track launched on August 26 but failed to garner much traction.

The series followed Ingrid Yun (Arden Cho), a 1st generation Korean American and the first lawyer in her family, who experiences the trials and tribulations of excelling at the prestigious (but old school) law firm, Parsons Valentine.

Bradley Gibson (Power Book II: Ghost), Alexandra Turshen (Ray Donovan), Dominic Sherwood (Shadowhunters), and Rob Heaps (Good Girls) also starred.

The cast was rounded out by Nolan Gerard Funk (The Flight Attendant), Matthew Rauch (Banshee), and Roby Attal (The Haunting of Bly Manor).

Unfortunately, the series ended on a big cliffhanger, meaning it joins the ranks of Netflix's other one-and-done series that failed to get conclusions.

“Lovecraft Country” creator Misha Green has signed a multi-year overall deal with Apple in a competitive situation.

Under the deal, Green will create and develop television projects for Apple’s streaming platform. News of the deal comes just days after it was announced that “Lovecraft Country” will not return for a second season at HBO. Green developed the series for television, with the first season having been based on the novel of the same name by Matt Ruff. She also served as showrunner and executive producer.

The show received strong critical praise upon its release, including earning a Golden Globe nomination for best drama series earlier this year. The show is also eligible for this year’s Emmy Awards.

Green is also known for co-creating and executive producing the WGN America series “Underground,” on which she was also co-showrunner. The critically-acclaimed series followed men and women in pre-Civil War America...

Lovecraft Country has released its first teaser trailer, showcasing an HBO horror series that appears to be categorically unique in its context and execution.

The 10-episode series, which adapts Matt Ruff’s 2016 novel of the same name, takes the racially-turbulent backdrop of 1950s Jim Crow America with… well, monsters from an H.P. Lovecraft paperback that inexplicably spring to life and wantonly wreak havoc. The premise, while intrinsically original, does bear the creative DNA of Jordan Peele, who’s onboard here as an executive producer, notably joined in that capacity by film and television giant J.J. Abrams, who—in a similar capacity to his Westworld executive producer turn—continues to fulfill his purportedly exorbitant five-year deal with the premium cable channel. Get Out writer and director Jordan Peele is developing a new Horror TV project with producer J.J. Abrams for HBO. It's called Lovecraft Country and it based on a novel written by Matt Ruff. This is going to be an hour-long series and it sounds like it could be fantastically insane!

According to Deadline, this will be a horror anthology series set in the 50s that "reclaims genre storytelling from the African-American perspective." The report goes on to offer the following story details:

Lovecraft Country focuses on 25-year-old Atticus Black. After his father goes missing, Black joins up with his friend Letitia and his Uncle George to embark on a road trip across 1950s Jim Crow America to find him. This begins a struggle to survive and overcome both the racist terrors of white America and the malevolent spirits that could be ripped from a Lovecraft paperback.

Get Out direct Jordan Peele is heading back to the heartland of horror as an executive producer of Lovecraft Country, an adaptation of Matt Ruff's novel of the same name that has been ordered to series on HBO.

Deadline reports the news for the Lovecraft Country adaptation, which is a collaboration between Peele's Monkeypaw Productions, J.J. Abrams' Bad Robot, and Warner Bros. Television.

The one-hour pilot of the "anthological horror series" will be penned by Misha Green (Underground, Helix), who will also serve as a showrunner as well as an executive producer alongside Peele, Abrams, and Ben Stephenson.

Exclusive: Christopher Plummer features in the story of a Un interpreter caught between the FBI and a criminal dynasty.

Toronto and La-based Goldove Entertainment has brought on Jeremiah Chechik to direct its thriller Little Mizz Innocent.

Goldove and Chechik are finalising a cast list ahead of an anticipated 2017 shoot; Christopher Plummer is already signed to play the antagonist.

The story centres on a seemingly innocent Un interpreter caught up in a war between the FBI and a criminal dynasty.

Chechik directed 2013 rom-com The Right Kind Of Wrong with Ryan Kwanten and has worked extensively in TV in recent years on the likes of Criminal Minds, Gossip Girl and Helix.

Goldove president and CEO Lynda McKoy is also lining up Area 51 sci-fi horror Lumina, described as being in the vein of Close Encounters Of The Third Kind and Chronicle.

Back in July, we reported that NBC is in the early stages of developing a reboot of the beloved 1995 fantasy series Xena: Warrior Princess. Original Xena: Warrior Princess producers Sam Raimi and Rob Tapert are coming back to produce, and we reported in August that the reboot is seeking writers to tackle the story. Today we have word from Variety that Lost writer Javier Grillo-Marxuach has signed on to write and executive produce this new version of Xena: Warrior Princess.

The original Xena: Warrior Princess debuted in 1995, but Lucy Lawless' title character was originally introduced on another first-run syndicated show, Hercules: The Legendary Journeys, before she got her own spinoff. A few months ago, we learned that NBC was planning on reboot the popular '90s sword-and-sandal series Xena: Warrior Princess. Original executive producers Rob Tapert and Sam Raimi are involved in what's being called a "modern reboot," and original star Lucy Lawless has expressed her thoughts on the possibility of a new series.

There hasn't been much in the way of solid, official news on the rebooted series for a while, but NBC has just changed that. Variety reports that the network has hired former Lost writer Javier Grillo-Marxuach to write and executive produce the series, "which is still in the development stages." So there's still a lot of work to be done before the show hits our TV screens, but at least there's some forward momentum happening here.

With production getting under way on Season 4 of Arrow, The CW Network series has just added two new cast members. Access Hollywood reports that Jeri Ryan has signed on to play Jessica Danforth, while Jr Bourne has come aboard to portray DC comics villain Double Down. Both actors are signing on for just one episode apiece, with Jeri Ryan appearing in the second episode of Arrow Season 4, and Jr Bourne guest starring in the third episode.

Jessica Danforth is a new character who doesn't originate in the DC Comics. She is described as a friend of Oliver Queen's family. The character's political ambitions "put her in the crosshairs of a menacing antagonist." It isn't clear if there are plans for the character to return later on in Season 4 or not. But she could certainly return, especially with her strong connection to Oliver.
