The Swiss army rucksacks used by the two main protagonists, when hiking to the Klondike valley, were not in use until the 1950's. The speckled green canvas was a mixture of nettle and flax, invented during the Second World War.

Producers said they shot the scene where Sabine (Conor Leslie) is naked in front of a crowd of people, but they were sure the Discovery Channel would make them cut it out. To their surprise, Discovery said go with it. They also felt the network would have let them go even farther if they wanted because they were told to feel free to push the envelope. They were pretty sure Leslie would have been up for it.
The real-life Belinda Mulrooney looked nothing like the more attractive Abbie Cornish, who plays her on the show.
The Count is loosely based on Charles Eugene Carbonneau, Belinda Mulrooney's ex-husband. Although he also went by self-proclaimed title of "count," he was a champagne salesman and barber, not a ruthless businessman willing to burn down a church and murder anyone who got in his way.
