A brand-new clip for ‘Alien: Earth’ just dropped! This upcoming series is set to hit Hulu this summer, bringing the eerie world of the Alien franchise right to our screens. If you’re like me, you’re already counting down the days to dive into this sci-fi horror adventure.
The show comes from Noah Hawley, the creative mind behind ‘Fargo’ and ‘Legion.’ It’s his take on the Alien universe, and he’s promising something fresh yet familiar.
‘Alien: Earth’ is a prequel, set about 30 years before the original 1979 ‘Alien’ film that started it all. This time, the action unfolds on our planet, a big shift from the space-bound terror we’re used to. Hawley’s got a knack for blending tension and storytelling, so I’m expecting a wild ride.
A mysterious spacecraft crashes on Earth, and a young woman named Wendy, played by Sydney Chandler, teams up with a rough-and-tough group of soldiers.

Exclusive: Hulu’s Margaret Atwood adaptation of The Testaments has found its first director.

British director Barker has helmed 12 eps of Hulu’s The Handmaid’s Tale, recognized with two Emmy noms. His other credits include ITV hit Broadchurch, Fargo and David Duchovny-starring Prime Video thriller Malice, which launches later this year.
Bruce Miller’s Testaments series is one of the hottest TV shows percolating at present. The Handmaid’s Tale sequel has cast Presumed Innocent‘s Chase Infiniti as one of the three leads, joining Ann Dowd, who had been expected to reprise her Emmy-winning role as Lydia, and Lucy Halliday (Blue Jean). We understand cameras will roll soon in Canada.

Like the Church potluck to which Amziah King introduces his one-time foster daughter Kateri, The Rivals of Amziah King is a gleeful mashup of genres and tones blending bluegrass music, comedy, revenge, and heist-thriller elements into a tasty homestyle buffet full of eccentric characters and thick Southern accents. It’s a strong follow-up to the promise Andrew Patterson displayed in his resourceful debut feature The Vast of Night––even when this mash-up seems a little uneven and indulgent, with a heavy use of formal techniques, from slow-motion to ironic music.
In large part this film’s success stems from its leads: Matthew McConaughey as King, channeling the look and energy of Bruce Springsteen’s Born in the U.S.A. era, and Angelina LookingGlass as Kateri. They reconnect and King takes her under his wing, providing lessons about his beekeeping profession that double as the kind of life advice he never gave her.

At this time last year, few likely had heard of Richard Gadd or Jessica Gunning, and the term “baby reindeer” didn’t immediately call to mind a harrowing exploration of sexual abuse and codependency. Yet, within a month, Baby Reindeer became one of last year’s most widely seen shows, and when the Emmy Awards announced its winners in the limited series and movie categories in September, Gadd, Gunning, and Baby Reindeer won. That’s illustrative of how quickly fortunes can change in the limited series race, which typically resets each season (save for an anthology series like Monsters or Fargo). Ahead, the early 2025 Emmy Awards odds in the movie/limited series categories.

Carrie Coon has become one of Hollywood's go-to actors for prestige projects in recent years. Besides her roles in Avengers: Infinity War,The Post, and two Ghostbusters movies, Coon has carved out an impressive career for herself in television. She nabbed an Emmy nomination for playing Midwestern cop Gloria Burgle in FX's Fargo in 2017, and she followed that up with another Emmy nomination in 2024 for her iconic portrayal of queen bee, Bertha Russell, in HBO's The Gilded Age (which has its third season on the way). So, it's no surprise that Mike White cast her in his latest season of HBO's The White Lotus. While just a few episodes have aired so far, it's already clear that Coon can hold her own in a talented ensemble cast. In fact, that sobbing scene alone in Episode 1 should earn her even more attention from Emmy voters. Before all of these parts...

Editor's Note: The following contains spoilers for Season 3 of The White Lotus.Anthology series feature some of the best storytelling on television. Stellar shows such as True Detectiveand Fargo have included brand-new casts, settings, and plots in each compelling season. This structure allows these types of series to reinvent themselves with each iteration. There are also shows, like Black Mirror,Accused, and The Twilight Zone that offer whole new worlds in every episode. These shows can cast impressive actors and tell a variety of stories in every single installment. The HBO hit show, The White Lotus, started out as a limited series, but as soon as it became a success, creator Mike White decided to bring back the show for future seasons (eliminating it from the limited series genre). The show is still being billed (and sorted into the Emmy category) as a limited series/anthology, but there's a problem with that assessment.

Spider-Man’s first Marvel Studios movie was aptly named Spider-Man: Homecoming because that’s exactly what it felt like. While popular Marvel characters like Captain America, Black Widow, Thor, and Iron Man were all in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Peter Parker was still under the Sony umbrella. That meant he couldn't be in any of the Disney/Marvel projects, ruling him out of the MCU. That is, until Sony and Marvel made a deal to bring the webslinger to the legendary franchise.
Eventually, Tom Holland was cast as The Amazing Spider-Man as he joined the MCU. With it came a host of iconic Spidey villains like The Vulture, Electro, and the Shocker. We haven’t seen the latter since Homecoming, but it sounds like he could be back in the not-too-distant future.

With a decorated career spanning over three decades and countless accolades to his name, like an Academy Award and two Golden Globes, Billy Bob Thornton is undeniably one of Hollywood's most exciting chameleon performers. Thornton has dominated both the big and small screen while showcasing his dazzling acting prowess, memorably appearing in a slew of cinematic knockouts, including Sling Blade, Armageddon, Bad Santa, and Monster's Ball, while also shifting his focus to the world of television with unforgettable roles in Fargo and the 2024 streaming sensation Landman.

Steve Buscemi has joined the high-flying cast of Wild Horse Nine, a Searchlight feature being directed by Martin McDonagh. It is the filmmaker’s first feature since his acclaimed The Banshees of Inisherin.
Sam Rockwell, who starred in McDonagh’s Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri, as well as John Malkovich and Parker Posey are already in the saddle for the dark comedic drama that begins shooting later this month in Rapa Nui, also known as Easter Island.
Plot and character details are being kept under wraps, but it is extremely rare that a production, let alone an American or British one, shoots on the island, which lies 3,700 kilometers off the coast of Chile and is one of the most remote, inhabited islands on Earth. It is also one of the rare areas not overrun by modern conveniences, as it is run by the Rapa Nui National Park.

Jack Huston, known for his acting work in Boardwalk Empire and American Hustle, has come aboard to direct a biopic centered on Joseph Merrick, the deformed Victorian Age artist known as The Elephant Man.
Phoenix Pictures is backing the feature, titled Joseph Merrick, which will be produced by Kate Cohen, Mike Medavoy and David Dobkin. Huston will also produce.
Production is looking to start later this year.
Merrick was an object of fascination during his life, and his story resonated beyond his lifetime. He was a man who was incredibly deformed and was used as a circus freak while a teenager and became an object of curiosity by London society as well as scientific circles, but he was also an artist whose work broke beyond the limits of his sometimes confined life. Mimi Cave's Dutch-obsessed thriller Holland assumes you've never seen Fargo, the movies that inspired Fargo, any Fargo knockoff, or a solitary small-town murder mystery. It's excruciatingly boring and at no point unexpected. Clogs and windmills aren't idiosyncratic lifesavers when your movie boasts no voice, strikes no mood, or achieves no captivation. Andrew Sodorski's screenplay topped the 2013 Blacklist, and Cave's prior cannibal derangement Fresh is a savory hoot, but neither accomplishment shines through this dead-on-arrival Coen Brothers wannabe.

Four years have gone by since it was announced that Edgar Wright was coming on board to direct a new take on the novel The Running Man, which was written by Stephen King under his Richard Bachman pen name. The Running Man was, of course, previously turned into a film back in 1987 that starred Arnold Schwarzenegger and had little to do with the source material. Last year, Wright’s take on the material went into production with Glen Powell of Top Gun: Maverick, Hit Man, and Twisters in the lead role – and during a recent interview, Wright described the film as “the deadliest game of hide and seek.”
King’s novel has the following description: It was the ultimate death game in a nightmare future America. The year is 2025 and reality TV has grown to the point where people are willing to wager their lives for a chance at a billion-dollar jackpot.

In June 2023, a very specific list of films was added to Letterboxd, titled, "oh this guy is so f*cked. there’s absolutely no way he can get more f*cked. (the next scene happens) ohhhh my god." "The Simpsons" is one of the best TV shows in history, and certainly one of the most influential. It's an American institution that changed both animated comedy and animation on TV forever. It also set a standard for how to build a lived-in fictional television universe, creating a large ensemble of side and background characters (like Harry Shearer's Dr. Marvin Monroe) that make Springfield feel like a living place.
For over 35 years, "The Simpsons" has delivered half-hour episodes of television that are heartfelt, outrageous, and hilarious. The show has also commented on and lampooned both contemporary sociopolitical issues and pop culture in all its forms, whether it's anime, indie film darlings, or classic horror stories. Indeed, it seems no movie, TV show, or book out there is safe from being parodied by "The Simpsons," just as there's seemingly nary a famous person who can avoid eventually paying a visit to Springfield.

Believe it or not, once upon a time, Robert Pattinson was not considered a top-notch actor. Sad but true! To be fair, there were a lot of mitigating factors surrounding this, chief among them the fact that he exploded onto the scene as the male lead in the "Twilight" saga, finding himself at the epicenter of that dubious pop-cultural phenomenon. Despite hordes of screaming young fans going wild for the English actor based on his beauty, the dismissal of Pattinson by snooty folks at the time helped teach us a valuable lesson later, one which we keep failing to learn: teen girls do tend to have good taste.
After all, almost immediately following his tenure in the "Twilight" films, Pattinson used his newfound clout to become a star to be reckoned with. He doubled down on a collaboration with the cerebral Canadian provocateur David Cronenberg, appearing in both "Cosmopolis" and "Maps to the Stars.

The Alien franchise is set to continue on the small screen with an “FX on Hulu” TV series called Alien: Earth, from Fargo creator Noah Hawley, which is aiming for a Summer 2025 premiere. While we wait to hear a specific premiere date for the show, FX has sent out five quick clips that are set on board the Uscss Maginot. These clips have been shared by journalist Germain Lussier, and you can check them out at the bottom of this article.
One of the first things we heard about the Alien TV series – and one of the most surprising things about it – is that it will be set on Earth (thus the title), a couple of decades before the events of the first movie. FX chairman John Landgraf has said the show will take place “right near the end of this century.” According to Deadline, the setting puts it “a few years before Prometheus,...

Famous filmmaker Bong Joon Ho, best known for his Oscar-winning movie Parasite, has revealed a surprising idea—he wants to make an Alien movie, but as a musical.
In a recent interview, Bong mentioned that he doesn’t usually like franchise films, but if he had to make one, he would love to create a unique version of Alien. Then, with his usual dry humor, he added, “An Alien musical.”
I’m not drawn to franchise films, but I did think at one point that I would like to do an ‘Alien’ film, an ‘Alien’ musical.
This idea is both strange and exciting. The Alien series, which started with Ridley Scott’s 1979 sci-fi horror classic, is known for its dark, terrifying atmosphere. The thought of xenomorphs dancing and singing sounds completely different from anything we’ve seen before.

On Sunday night, “Anora” director Sean Baker made Academy Awards history by winning four Oscars in the same year for the same film, collecting gold statues for Best Picture, Best Directing, Best Original Screenplay, and Best Editing.
How did Baker do what other legendary directors, whose films have won twice as many Oscars, could not? How unique is it that he wears so many hats? And is there anything to be gleaned from his four wins as the Oscars continue the trend of increasing the premium on auteur-driven filmmaking?
A director winning Best Picture and Best Original Screenplay is not unusual. If Baker didn’t win Best Original Screenplay category this year, another director would have: Brady Corbet (“The Brutalist”), Jesse Eisenberg (“A Real Pain”), Coralie Fargeat (“The Substance”), and Tim Fehlbaum (“September 5”).

Chris Rock is playing coy about hosting the Academy Awards again. The former host — who was involved in one of the most memorable moments in Oscars history when he was slapped by Will Smith onstage — remained vague when asked whether or not he would tackle the role taken on by Conan O'Brien in this year's ceremony.
Considering all that he had to endure not only during the 2022 Oscars, but the fallout after the fact, it's not surprising that the Fargo star was hesitant to commit to returning. But given that Rock was all about "forgiveness" when E! News asked him about it at the Vanity Fair Oscar Party, we could absolutely see a world where he comes back and hosts the show again. But if you want to know exactly what he had to say about the matter, keep reading below!

Besides a Romulus sequel to look forward to, the Xenomorphs are also set to bring all their slimy terror onto small screens with Alien: Earth, the first-ever Alien television series being developed for FX on Hulu. Many of the series' details have been kept under wraps, with only a couple of short and ambiguous teasers released to keep the hype going. Sometimes an actor plays a role so well and for so long that the two seem to become inextricable from one another. In the hit HBO series "Succession," Kieran Culkin played youngest sibling Roman Roy, a spoiled and vicious man who felt entitled to the world because he was the son of media mogul Logan Roy (Brian Cox). As Roman, Culkin poured a lot of his own snark and sarcasm into a tortured and broken man who used his words as both weapon and shield, and he did it with such expert skill that he made Roman a character you wanted to root for even though he was monstrous.
In Jesse Eisenberg's film "A Real Pain," Culkin plays another man dealing with a tremendous amount of pain, and he once again uses humor to deal with that pain. Benji Kaplan is a man reaching middle age who feels adrift,...

If you grew up in the early 2000s, chances are you spent many evenings with Ray Barone (Ray Romano) and his eccentric family in the hit comedy series "Everybody Loves Raymond." For good reason. This critically acclaimed sitcom about Ray, a Newsday sportswriter, dealing with his put-upon wife Debra (Patricia Heaton), bickering parents (Peter Boyle and Doris Roberts), and neurotic brother Robert (Brad Garrett), perfectly captures the working-class family and all its quirks, resulting in a heartfelt, often hilarious look at everyday life.
Running from 1997 to 2005, "Raymond" won 15 Primetime Emmys, garnered critical acclaim, and averaged over 20 million viewers during its peak. More impressively, the cast became household names, forever tied to their characters. Still, while many cast members achieved even greater success following the show's finale, others faded into obscurity or endured heartbreaking tragedy. Interested to learn more? Bong Joon-ho's first film since his Academy Award-winning film Parasite, Mickey 17, is one of the year's most anticipated films for many. Based on Edward Ashton's novel of the same name, the film follows an unlucky drifter named Mickey (Robert Pattinson) who volunteers to be an "expendable" on a human colony. Being an expendable means taking on dangerous missions with little chance of survival, and Mickey volunteers without knowing the full extent. Each time he dies on a mission, he is cloned. Thus creating multiple versions of himself. Most of the film revolves around the 17th and 18th clones of him (hence the title) and both versions have peculiar accents.

For decades, the films of David Lynch have been defined by their eerie, surreal qualities -- visions of Americana that cover up a thinly veiled dark, dreamlike undercurrent. Yet, while the director's works are often remembered for their unsettling imagery, cryptic storytelling, and moments of outright horror, there is an essential component that is frequently overlooked by those who attempt to imitate his style: an unshakable belief in kindness and sincerity. Beneath the nightmarish small towns and uncanny performances, Lynch’s films radiate an earnest love for people, their quirks, and their ability to find goodness even in the strangest circumstances, just like the man himself.
Surprisingly, the modern film franchise that carries this torch of earnestness and humanistic storytelling isn't one of the many self-consciously weird Lynchian imitators -- it’s the Paddington movies. On the surface, the journey of a wholesome, marmalade-loving bear from Peru might seem as...

With the Oscars just around the corner, actor Kieran Culkin is poised to win his first Academy Award for his role in A Real Pain, adding another statue to his already impressive collection. Although Culkin started acting when he was only eight years old, he's best known for his portrayal of Roman Roy in Succession, a role that earned him a much-deserved Emmy. Despite appearing in only a few scenes, Culkin fully develops the character in just one episode, setting the tone for the rest of the season and showcasing his remarkable versatility as an actor.

Steve Buscemi still can’t believe that his “Fargo” accent endures in the zeitgeist, especially after Robert Pattinson cited the performance as an influence for “Mickey 17.”
Pattinson leads Bong Joon Ho’s English-language “Mickey 17,” which premiered at the 2025 Berlin Film Festival. During the press conference for the film, Pattinson shared that he was inspired by Steve Buscemi’s “Fargo” character for one of the eccentric accents of his various Mickey roles. (Pattinson plays an “expendable” named Mickey who is brought back to life 17 times and counting to endure deadly space missions.)
“I actually think I realized today what I was doing,” Pattinson said of how “Fargo” was part of his accent prep work, via Variety. “We were doing an interview earlier and Bong said one of the thoughts he was having for [Mickey] 18 was Peter Stormare from ‘Fargo.’ And then I think how that went into my head was...

Robert Pattinson said he channeled Steve Buscemi's Fargo character in Mickey 17, which follows the disposable life of a human guinea pig. Buscemi is still oblivious to Pattinson's role and the film, but he's still floored by the comparison.
Mickey 17 will feature a quirky Easter egg in every scene Robert Pattinson is in. The actor recently revealed his Mickey 17 and 18 reprints emulated Carl Showalter and Gaear Grimsrud, Steve Buscemi and Peter Stormare's characters in 1996's Fargo. That explains Mickey 17's eternal optimism, something that's likely shared by previous reprints. Speaking to THR, Buscemi said he's unaware of the compliment, unsure if Pattinson was referring to his accent in the film. Buscemi played iconic roles in Reservoir Dogs and Pulp Fiction but Fargo was a milestone in his career.

One of the best movies in action movie favorite Gerard Butler’s repertoire is heading to free streaming. Released back in 2018, the heist action thriller Den of Thieves finds Butler leading as the hard-drinking, hard-fighting leader of the Regulators, an elite unit of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department. And he’s about to butt heads with Halo star Pablo Schreiber's Ray Merrimen, the leader of an equally elite gang of thieves. Cue the gruff masculinity and explosions.
