Last October, we got word that Mike Flanagan is set to re-team with Stephen King for a new small-screen adaptation of the legendary's author's first novel, Carrie, and we may now know who is in talks to play the lead roles.
According to scooper Daniel Richtman, Hereditary star Milly Shapiro is in negotiations to play the title role of Carrie, with Samantha Sloyan eyed to play the tormented teen's mother, Margaret White.
Shapiro played Charlie Graham in Ari Aster's Hereditary, and a key scene involving the character will surely go down as one of the most shocking moments in horror movie history.
Flanagan and King - who recently collaborated on the upcoming The Life of Chuck - are developing the supernatural coming-of-rage tale as an eight-episode series for Amazon, with Flanagan on board as showrunner and exec producer.

Shaman King officially has a new series in the works. Hiroyuki Takei's Shaman King is a cult classic shōnen which has over time received two sequels in Shaman King: Flowers and Shaman King: The Super Star. The series stands as one of the most unique battle shōnen available today, in part due to Takei's interest in nonviolence and Buddhism. It follows the story of a shaman boy, Yoh Asakura, who fights to become Shaman King—effectively a god—alongside his young fiancée, renowned spirit medium Asakura Anna.
The series has an undeniable charm, tracing Yoh and Anna's steps as they gather a troupe of friends (flesh and spirit alike), eventually taking the confrontation with Yoh's brother, Hao, as a priority. Shaman King has maintained a steady following since its initial debut in 1998. Starting with the sequel series, Shaman King Flowers, focus has shifted to Yoh and Anna's son, Hana.

Stephen King has announced he's releasing a new book, Never Flinch, and we already know quite a bit about it, including the release date, story, and even some characters. King is one of the most prolific writers of our era, and while his focus over the years has shifted across multiple genres and between novels, short story collections, and novellas, there is something unmistakable about a Stephen King book, with his relatable characters and lived-in prose. His influence has inspired countless authors, with a new anthology based on Stephen King's The Stand, The End of the World As We Know It, also recently announced.
In recent years, however, King moved to writing non-horror books, turning his attention to the crime thriller, with some of his books in the genre being pure crime, skimming the surface of hardboiled noir, while others have incorporated more of the supernatural element that King is associated with.

Master of horror Stephen King returns with another horror novel in the first half of 2025. Entertainment Weekly exclusively shared a first look at the upcoming book, titled Never Flinch, along with an excerpt that will give prospective readers an idea of what to expect.
Never Flinch has several "intertwining storylines," including one that revolves around a popular character who has appeared in several of King's novels, Holly Gibney. Holly first appeared in King's Mr. Mercedes trilogy, followed by The Outsider, and eventually got her own book titled Holly.
Per the outlet, Never Flinch centers on the Buckeye City Police Department after they receive an ominous letter from someone who wants to murder 14 people, all in "atonement for the needless death of an innocent man." Detective Izzy Jaynes is forced to turn to Holly Gibney for assistance.
The second narrative follows a women's rights activist targeted by an angry stalker who opposes her empowering message.

Some very exciting news for horror fans this evening, as Mike Flanagan is re-teaming with Stephen King for a new small-screen adaptation of the legendary's author's first novel, Carrie.
Deadline reports that the pair - who recently collaborated on the upcoming The Life of Chuck - are developing the supernatural coming-of-rage tale as an eight-episode series for Amazon, with Flanagan on board as showrunner and exec producer.
Brian De Palma's 1976 take on the book is widely viewed as one of the better King adaptations, with Sissy Spacek delivering a terrifying and tragic turn as the title character, who begins to manifest destructive telekinetic abilities after being relentlessly bullied by her classmates and tormented by her domineering religious fanatic mother. John Travolta, Piper Laurie, Amy Irving, Nancy Allen, Betty Buckley and William Katt also starred.
The movie's climactic bloodbath is often hailed as one of the most iconic scenes in cinema history.

Stephen King‘s novel Fairy Tale had been set for a movie adaptation from Universal, you may recall, but it looks like those plans have changed. The new plan? A television series.
Deadline reports today that A24 is now on board to turn Stephen King’s Fairy Tale into a 10-episode series, with J.H. Wyman (“Fringe”) serving as the showrunner.
The outlet notes, “Paul Greengrass, who wrote a script and expected to direct the [originally planned] feature, is expected to still be in the middle of things. That script will be expanded by Greengrass and J.H. Wyman.”
Peter Rice will be executive producer alongside Greengrass, Wyman and King.
Deadline further explains, “… the book clocked in at 600-plus pages. It was impossible to fold it all into a two-hour film. Universal let it go. Rice, who had read and loved the book, put it all back together at A24, with Greengrass remaining and Wyman joining him.

A Stephen King adaptation has just found new life. The author's 2022 book "Fairy Tale" was originally eyed as a feature film. Now though? It's being retooled as a TV show by the folks at A24. This information comes courtesy of the folks at Deadline, who've revealed that Paul Greengrass is expected to be involved as a director and producer. Peter Rice ("Saturday Night") is also on board as an executive producer.
What's interesting here is that Greengrass was originally attached to direct "Fairy Tale" as a movie when he won the rights to the novel in 2022. While the new report notes that Greengrass' deal has not closed yet, it seems like things are headed in that direction. So, it appears as though the Oscar-nominee has really tuned into the material and wants in on the action, be it on the big or small screen.
It's also noted that the project...

Stephen King's legacy on the screen will continue thanks to an upcoming television adaptation. According to Deadline, Fairy Tale has been revived at A24 as a television show. The project was previously supposed to be a movie distributed by Universal Pictures, but when the studio realized that the narrative was simply too large to be displayed through a feature, the project was abandoned. Long-form storytelling won't be an issue for an entire season of television. Fairy Tale will consist of ten episodes, with the production company bringing audiences to Stephen King's first attempt at creating a world within the fantasy genre.

Fantasy is often characterized by magic, mythical creatures, and the forces of good triumphing over evil, but this isn't always the case. Plenty of dark fantasy books are so gruesome and grim that they could be considered part of the horror genre as well. This doesn't mean that the story won't end somewhat happily for the characters, but it does mean that more gore and difficult situations will be described than in a typical fantasy novel. Additionally, the tension and stakes hold a creepy sensation of terror and foreboding that are impossible to escape.
Grimdark and horror-esque works aren't the best fantasy book series for beginners, as they can be emotionally difficult to read because of the intense subject matter. However, for readers who are more interested in horror and haven't explored speculative fiction in-depth, these novels are great transitory materials that might pique their interest. Sailor Moon draws heavily from Greek and Roman mythology, but the series' mangaka has many different influences which she threads through her amazing work. Naoko Takeuchi incorporated various fairy tale themes, tropes, and archetypes into the magical girl classic. Fairy tales come from an oral tradition, but writers like Charles Perrault and the Brothers Grimm wrote them down and compiled them into the most popular versions.
Naoko Takeuchi also included Japanese fairy tales, like "The Moon Rabbit," along with European tales, like "Cinderella." All these influences create a lush fantasy story that takes place in the modern world. It makes the series' romance and the magic feel timeless, humorous, and ethereal.

’11/22/63′: Stephen King Finds the Best Ending to His Greatest Love Story [The Losers’ Club Podcast]
The Losers’ Club reaches the last page of Stephen King‘s time-traveling drama: 11/22/63. In the sixth and final episode of their coverage, the Losers return to the present to discuss the tear-jerker of an ending, dust off King’s original finale, and share their final thoughts. They also meditate on the book’s connections (?) to Mid-World and other what-ifs.
It’s a rousing conclusion to what has been the Club’s greatest journey thus far. For the last month and change, the Losers have spent 22 hours dissecting the 2011 tome — from discussing its origins, to needling through the conspiracies left off the page, to relishing all the time we get with some of our favorite characters in King’s Dominion. It’s been a ride, alright.
Stream the final episode below, in addition to all seven prior episodes as part of this series. For further adventures, join the Club via Apple Podcasts,...

We did, however, think it would be enriching to chat with some smart people about King’s assertion that “it is very, very difficult for a reasonable person to believe” that Lee Harvey Oswald wasn’t the lone shooter.
Previously, we spoke with Brendan James of Blowback about the book, Oswald, and King’s political evolution. You can find that episode just a bit further down the feed. Now, we’re speaking with Jim Dieugenio, one of the leading experts on the political assassinations of the 1960s. Jim is the author of two books about the Kennedy Assassination, one of which was the basis for Oliver Stone’s documentary JFK Revisited: Through the Looking Glass. He also has a new book out, The JFK Assassination Chokeholds and a website,...
