When we think of Mark Harmon, the image that instantly comes to our mind is his portrayal of the stoic and sharp-witted Leroy Jethro Gibs on NCIS. The cornerstone of one of television’s longest-running TV shows and most beloved crime drama, Harmon is best known for his effortless on-screen charm and nuanced portrayals.

The release of the trailer for James Gunn's Superman film has set the Internet abuzz, in no small part due to its vibrant cast composed of many underrated DC characters. One standout inclusion is a long time coming, with Edi Gathegi bringing DC Comics superstar Mister Terrific to life in his first appearance on the big screen.
The Superman trailer has generated a lot of discussion for its willingness to dip into DC's more obscure cast of characters, with Krypto the Super Dog, Green Lantern Guy Gardner, and Hawkgirl all given premier billing. The appearance of Mister Terrific near the trailer's end is a welcome surprise, as this marks his big-screen debut despite being a major player in DC Comics for decades.

DC has an interesting slate of movies and shows coming in 2025 to kick off a new period for the franchise!
2024 was, in many ways, the end of an era for DC Comics. The Dceu, with its tortured history, ended with the year prior with Aquaman: The Lost Kingdom sinking fast, so there weren't any new films from that franchise this year. The CW's Arroweverse also closed out after 12 years with Superman and Lois, while their animated film universe also ended with the Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths trilogy.
It's a new day for DC Comics on TV and film, with James Gunn and Peter Safran crafting a new DC Universe. There have been shifts as The Batman II is now delayed until 2026, and other projects are in the works. So DC's 2025 slate isn't as huge as Marvel's, but there are new notable entries coming, so here's a calendar of...

Warning! This article contains spoilers for all of DC's 2024 releases.2024 has been quite a deadly year for the DC Universe, with plenty of movies and TV shows being released with a high body count. Compared to years past, which saw frequent releases of Dceu movies, 2024 constituted something of a gap year for DC's live-action projects, with Batman villain solo stories like Joker: Folie Á Deux and The Penguin eating the lion's share of the notoriety. Both of these projects presented audiences with some shocking moments, including deaths carrying huge implications for their respective continuities.
2024 also saw DC release a number of high-profile animated projects, from the start of the Dcu with Creature Commandos to the finale of the animated Tomorrowverse series with the Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths trilogy. These animated shows and films were arguably even more audacious with character deaths, rounding out the year for the company.

2024 has proved it's high time for DC to adapt Batman Beyond into a live-action movie, and the stage is in many ways perfectly set for this to come to fruition. The original Batman Beyond series ran from 1999-2001, with the animated Batman show exploring the future of Gotham after Bruce Wayne is forced to retire from his superhero role, and the mantle is instead handed down to Terry McGinnis. While the character has returned since then, the potential of his appearance in live-action hasn't been formally capitalized on, despite prior efforts to do so.
However, recent history has provided some of the most solid examples of why Batman Beyond mor than deserves its time in the live-action big-screen spotlight. The first of these came with Terry's second proper animated movie appearance after Batman Beyond: Return Of The Joker, as the Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths movie trilogy saw the character reappear,...

Can you believe it’s been over a decade since Spartacus first brought its blood-soaked, action-packed drama to our screens? Back in 2010, this hit show redefined the historical epics with its unapologetic intense storytelling and raw actions. Though Gladiator and Rome did lay the groundwork for sword-and-sandal greatness, Spartacus intensified the level, delivering four seasons of unforgettable action.
Of course, it wasn’t just the on-screen drama that had us hooked to our screens, behind the scenes, the heartbreaking loss of Andy Whitfield after Season 1 broke our hearts. But the series persevered, with Liam McIntyre stepping in to finish this epic saga of the Thracian rebel leader.

With DC Studios setting out to create a single shared Dcu (with a handful of "Elseworlds" projects like The Batman franchise), it's unclear what that means for Warner Bros. Animation's direct-to-dvd DC offerings.
2024 has seen the release of Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths and Watchmen, though July's San Diego Comic-Con didn't bring the usual annual announcements about what's next. As a result, most fans expect these movies to be quietly scrapped.
Now, though, it appears there either are - or were - plans for an animated trilogy based on Batman: Knightfall.
Based on recent filings on the Entertainment Identifier Registry (Eidr) system, which "provides a unique identifier for audiovisual content across the global entertainment industry," DC Animated Universe veteran Jeff Wamester (who helmed the Crisis on Infinite Earths trilogy) will helm this adaptation of the iconic storyline.

Warner Bros. Animation has taken a few liberties in adapting the Crisis on Infinite Earths animated trilogy. DC loyalists already saw this iconic comics event in the Arrowverse. Now, they get a serving in animation, with the medium offering a lot more cosmic spectacle.
Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths - Part Three finds the heroes trying to recover after the Anti-Monitor arrives to devour worlds. Sadly, Supergirl is turned into his pawn, which leads to her killing the Monitor in Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths - Part Two. As the rest of the alliance powers, however, the final chapter reveals more deaths, heartbreaking sacrifices, and a big decision as the status quo shifts monumentally.

These days, James Gunn is known for giving us the "Guardians of the Galaxy" movies and for heading up the new DC Studios over at Warner Bros. As the director gears up to unleash his "Superman" movie, we're all eager to see whether Gunn can finally make DC truly competitive in the superhero movie marketplace, even as audience interest may be waning.
Of course, "Superman" isn't Gunn's first foray into DC territory. Prior to helming DC Studios, his bloody, messy sequel "The Suicide Squad" was well-received even as a day-and-date pandemic release hampered its commercial performance. Meanwhile, his TV series "Peacemaker" was a vulgar, violent masterpiece, and will soon return for a second season that is set to meld DC animation and live-action. His "Guardians" movies for Marvel had been family-friendly affairs, and both of these DC projects allowed the director to embrace a more lurid, adult sensibility, and it...

But among a plethora of other notable animated cameos, one scene in particular stands out as a significant bookend for the animated world of the DC Universe. In his final performance as the Dark Knight, Kevin Conroy shines by revisiting his original Batman: The Animated Series role opposite Mark Hamill's Joker for one final showdown. Green Lantern has had a rough history on film. In 2011, Warner Bros. bet on the hero being their Iron Man; a B-lister underdog who could kick off a blockbuster franchise. "Green Lantern" starring Ryan Reynolds did not fly high so the character was almost completely absent from the DC Extended Universe. (None of the major Green Lanterns show up in either cut of "Justice League.")
Now, James Gunn and Peter Safran's DC Studios is again looking to make the Green Lantern Corps an early fixture of their DC Films. Nathan Fillion is playing Guy Gardner in 2025's "Superman" and a "Lanterns" TV series is currently in development at HBO. A "True Detective" style murder mystery, "Lanterns" will star the two most famous comic Green Lanterns: Hal Jordan and John Stewart (not the one from "The Daily Show").

The Arrowverse was truly an astounding piece of television storytelling, a daring experiment that set the standard for how to do interconnected universes on TV, and for how to bring DC heroes to the small screen in live-action. This vital part of TV history came about as superheroes were dominating the big screen and departed just as superhero media ceased to be a surefire bet.
Even today, the Arrowverse remains something special, a universe filled with shows of different tones and approaches. Before the Netflix Marvel series tried to distinguish one another with different color filters, the Arrowverse got started with the "Batman Begins"-esque "Arrow" — a show with many ups and downs, but an unquestionable legacy. After that came the silly and soapy superhero saga that is "The Flash" (which explored the multiverse years before the concept came to dominate the superhero genre), the progressive and idealistic "Supergirl," the noir-inspired "Batwoman,...

For all the varying universes with shared continuity, the DC Animated Universe remains the peak adaptation of comics' oldest characters. While many who make that argument may do so from a place of nostalgia, the storytelling throughout holds up. If the Dcau has a cornerstone, it's the Justice League series that ran on the Cartoon Network from 2001 to 2004. Justice League gave fans a very similar experience to reading the comics, from interconnected storytelling to the pure joy of seeing their favorite heroes work together. Interestingly, the Dcau was not the first shared universe featuring these characters. More than 30 years earlier, Filmation produced a "cinematic universe" featuring DC Comics' characters. It was followed by others, including the iconic Super Friends.
Justice League was not the first time fans saw these heroes together on the small screen. But, with all due respect to the stories that came before it, Justice League was better in every possible way.

While the series and its attendant universe is still beloved by fans, the recent adult animated DC shared universe, called the Tomorrowverse, bested its predecessor where one character was concerned. Steve Ditko's Vic Sage, also known as The Question, appeared in both, but only the Tomorrowverse realized the character as his creator intended.

DC's animated Justice League films follow various continuities, complicating viewing patterns beyond chronological order. Standalone films offer unique, non-shared universe stories featuring the Justice League with varied art styles and themes. The Tomorrowverse continuity ties into the Dcamu, making viewing all animated Justice League movies a more cohesive experience.
The DC Animated Universe has a rich filmography when it comes to the Justice League, necessitating a solid watch order to make sense of it all. DC's animated films are a consistent content output, and standing among them are some of DC's most faithful media. With a new animated Justice League film from DC having been put out at least once almost every year since 2010, it's easy to get lost in putting together the chronological order in which the films were released.
Warner Brother's live-action Dceu may be on the brink of a reboot, yet the universe's animated films have always had a strong identity.

Katee Sackhoff returns to DC animation in Watchmen Chapter 1, taking over the iconic role of Laurie Juspeczyk Aka Silk Spectre. It's another massive line on her already impressive genre resume, which also includes The Mandalorian, The Flash and of course, Battlestar Galactica. But stepping into the grim world of Watchmen is its own separate beast.
In an interview with Cbr, Sackhoff discussed her reaction to landing the role of Silk Spectre. She also discussed the one quality she felt was important when bringing Laurie to life. Plus, how does working in DC animation compare to the voice work that she's done for Lucasfilm and Disney in their Star Wars universe?

Superman: Man of Tomorrow kicked off the Tomorrowverse with a strong start, showcasing a fresh art style and engaging voice cast. Green Lantern: Beware My Power struggled to captivate Tomorrowverse fans, overshadowing John Stewart with Hal Jordan's popularity. Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths - Part Three served as an underwhelming conclusion to the series, falling short of its potential.
The Tomorrowverse was the latest attempt at a DC animated movie universe, with some films pulling off the concept better than others. The most recent cartoon cinematic continuity for DC Comics began with the release of Superman: Man of Tomorrow in 2020, showing off a daring new art style and voice cast after the conclusion of the beloved Dcamu. While the Tomorrowverse improved on the Dcamu in many ways, it's final filmography ends up being somewhat uneven.

The Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths movie trilogy concludes the Tomorrowverse by creating a new continuity for future stories. The Huntress' comic book history is controversial due to her death in 1985's Crisis on Infinite Earths, and the reboots and retcons that followed. The Crisis movie trilogy avoids the comics' mistakes with The Huntress by not complicating her history and by emphasizing her importance to Batman's emotional growth.

While speaking with The Hollywood Handle to promote Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths Part Three, the conclusion of both the Tomorrowverse and the DC Animated Movie Universe, Donnelly was asked if there were any characters in the Marvel Universe that she would love to portray in the MCU. Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths is the epic event movie trilogy from Warner Bros. Animation that ends the Tomorrowverse era of the DC Animated Movie Universe (Dcamu). The chapter that started with 2020's Superman: Man of Tomorrow included the adaptation of the iconic storyline Batman: The Long Halloween, and saw the animated debut of the Justice Society of America and the Legion of Super-Heroes in their own eponymous films. In addition to spotlighting DC's heroes beyond the iconic Justice League, the Tomorrowverse also introduced the DC Multiverse as part of its larger storyline.
In an interview with Cbr, producer Butch Lukic shared additional details about the initial planning of the Crisis on Infinite Earths movie adaptation, and how this factored into the larger plans for the Tomorrowverse. Lukic also discussed whether James Gunn's and Peter Safran's promotion as DC Studios' managers impacted Warner Bros. Animation's plans for the Tomorrowverse.

Horizon: An American Saga is number one on the iTunes and Fandango at Home VOD charts. The Kevin Costner Western has been a major bomb at the box office and hasn't fared well with critics. Vindication for critics who thought Kevin Costner’s epic “Horizon: An American Saga — Chapter 1″ (Warner Bros.) felt more like a TV drama: It was an immediate #1 on VOD top 10 lists.
The first of a planned four-film series, with the second already completed (and now delayed after the postponement of its August release), it showed poorly in theaters with $28.5 million in U.S./Canada after its fourth weekend. Its rapid transition to home viewing after 18 days (standard for Universal beyond its biggest hits) looks like a smart move: It suggests there is an audience, although perhaps not one eager to watch the 181-minute epic in a theater.
This could help the troubled project gain traction, get it out of the red, and increase interest for “Chapter 2,” wherever/whenever it plays.

Darkseid in Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths is an essential nexus being, whose death threatens the multiverse's existence. Thanos, while formidable, can be killed, unlike Darkseid, whose death in the film had catastrophic consequences for all realities. The film shows off Darkseid's potential as an antagonist effectively, making the prospect of him appearing in the Dcu all the more exciting.

Many wonderful cameos were in store for fans with all three installments of the animated Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths trilogy. This includes a callback to Batman Beyond with Will Friedle reprising his role from the beloved animated series.
In an interview with ComingSoon.net, executive producer Butch Lukic addressed the return of Friedle's Batman. Lukic admitted that one reason why it was important to include the Batman Beyond reference is because he's aware of the chatter there has been over the years of resurrecting the series in some way. It's hoped that by giving the fans a small taste of Friedle back in the role of Terry McGinnis that there will finally be some real traction made with giving Batman Beyond a revival.

Justice League Dark: Apokolips War plays a crucial role in the conclusion of the Crisis on Infinite Earths trilogy. The Apokolips War is an intentionally dark, violent, and destructive sequence that ended in a complete universe reset, making its inclusion in the Tomorrowverse unexpected. The Tomorrowverse's Crisis On Infinite Earths reimagines the classic DC Comics event with a twist, involving baby Darkseid, John Constantine, and all DC animated TV shows. The Arrowverse does the same, only with characters like White Canary, Ryan Cho, and shows like Batwoman and Legends of Tomorrow, with Oliver Queen as the ultimate savior. The Arrowverse's Crisis On Infinite Earths features a large cast from established shows and brings together heroes in a convoluted but high-stakes storyline. The Tomorrowverse's version of the event is less star-studded, but much easier to follow. Both adaptations, while different from the source material, pay homage to DC's biggest crossover event. The Tomorrowverse stays slightly closer to its comic roots, while the Arrowverse's adaptation serves as a love letter to fan-favorite live-action TV shows.

That means it’s hidden from the Anti-Monitor, and it’s also extremely unstable. How unstable you ask? Ten minutes into the film and what’s left of Earth – 1’s downtown Metropolis is being overrun with dinosaurs. The following contains spoilers for Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths - Part Three, now available digitally.
Adapting the final third of Marv Wolfman and George Prez's iconic 1985 event comic Crisis on Infinite Earths, the final installment of the Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths movie trilogy brings the Tomorrowverse to a close. In 2020 when Superman: The Man of Tomorrow debuted, the second phase of the DC Animated Movie Universe (Dcamu) was just beginning to set its new status quo when Warner Bros. Discovery named James Gunn and Peter Safran as the new managers of DC Studios. Gunn and Safran looking to establish a more streamlined Dcu across TV and movies effectively ended the Tomorrowverse while it was still in its infancy.
The Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths movie trilogy was conceptualized to wrap up lingering plot threads from the previous movies, and to end the new animated DC universe on a strong note.
