Nat Geo is moving forward on four unscripted series, including Surviving Pompeii featuring two-time Emmy nominee Tom Hiddleston. The just-announced slate of National Geographic projects also includes The Real Finding Nemo, Meet the Planets, and Diana: One Day in Paris.

National Geographic is freshening up its programming slate.
The network has ordered four new series including The Real Finding Nemo and Surviving Pompeii with Tom Hiddleston.
It is the first slate of programming since it emerged that a large number of Nat Geo titles including Life Below Zero and Wild Tuna were coming to an end.
Surviving Pompeii with Tom Hiddleston is a historical exploration about the eruption of Vesuvius in 79 A.D. and the preserved Roman city it left behind. Hiddleston, who studied Classics at Cambridge University, exec produces alongside his Loki executive producer Kevin R. Wright.
It comes from Plimsoll Productions, which is behind Nat Geo series including A Real Bug’s Life and The Devil’s Climb. Grant Mansfield, Alan Eyres, Helen Flint and Tom Barbor-Might exec produce for Plimsoll and Carolyn Payne exec produces for Nat Geo.

Pope Francis, Hillary Rodham Clinton and former Un chief Ban Ki-Moon will be honored at the upcoming Cinema for Peace gala in Berlin on February 19.
The long-running gala run by the Cinema for Peace Foundation will be accompanied by the inaugural World Forum on the Future Of Democracy, Tech and Humankind.
The latter event will run from February 18 to 19 at the Allianz Forum next to the Brandenburg Gate in Berlin with the aim of promoting the renewal of democracy and freedom at a time when both are under threat.
The Cinema for Peace Foundation was created in 2008 as an international non-profit organization with the goal to foster change through film. Over the years it has worked with a host of stars including Angelina Jolie, Brad Pitt, Leonardo DiCaprio and George Clooney.

Paramount+ on Tuesday premiered a new feature-length documentary that continues in a new direction the six-decade debate surrounding JFK’s murder. Directed by Barbara Shearer, “JFK: What the Doctors Saw” reveals what the filmmakers claim to be startling medical observations about Kennedy’s wounds. It features a reunion of seven doctors who were in the emergency room that day at Parkland Memorial Hospital – where the mortally wounded President was taken – to discuss the day. Still: A Michael J. Fox Movie was the big winner at the Eighth Annual Critics Choice Documentary Awards held on November 12, 2023 in New York City. Still took home five awards, including Best Documentary Feature, Best Director (Davis Guggenheim), Best Editing (Michael Harte), Best Narration (Michael J. Fox), and Best Biographical Documentary.
Critics Choice Association members recognized 20 Days in Mariupol, American Symphony, and The Deepest Breath with two awards each. Additional winners included Being Mary Tyler Moore, JFK: One Day in America, Secrets of the Elephants, Lennon: Murder Without a Trial, Telemarketers, The 1619 Project, The Last Repair Shop, and 30 for 30.

The Critics Choice Association just unveiled the nominees for its 8th annual documentary awards. Topping the list is “American Symphony” with six bids, including Best Documentary, Best Director for Matthew Heineman, and notices in Cinematography, Editing, and Music Documentary. Heineman is the Oscar nominated director of “Cartel Land” from 2015. The sixth nomination for “American Symphony” is for Best Score thanks to 2022’s Grammy Award recipient for Album of the Year, Jon Batiste.
