I watched a short film about Shadow, and... I'm shocked.
I'm shocked that a fan-made short film looks like part of a multimillion-dollar film franchise. I just can't believe it.
If you haven't watched it yet, then RUN TO WATCH it, because as for me, this is the best retelling of Shadow's backstory. "Shadow the Hedgehog" and "Sonic Adventure 2" have aged a bit for me and do not evoke the emotions that the short film evokes. It perfectly shows the formation of the Shadow that we know. A stern and cold-blooded avenger. How he, along with Maria and Gerald, lives peacefully on the ARK colony, how he acquires new abilities, grows up and meets the harsh reality...
There are also references here, where to go without them.
There are many references to the film franchise, such as phrases and poses, which further strengthens this short film with films. A reference to Prime with Shad's phrase about "aero boots", Mike Pollock's voice (Eggman in games) in an advertisement for aero boots, there are also references to games: poses, phrases from games, well, a scene after the credits, just like in the movies.
Yes, it is clear that this is a fan-made short film, but again, everything was done with great love for the original source and at a high level. Seriously, it feels like it's like an official Sonic product.
The actors play well, the action is not bad, the dramatic moments are done superbly, including that very scene. And of course there is a seriousness in it, which is EXTREMELY rare in films.
And after what I saw, and after the fact that one of the screenwriters of the film franchise liked the short film, I hope that the story of Sonic 3 will be at least a little closer to such a level of elaboration and drama as in the short film.
A great short film!

- TriviaIn the original Portuguese version, the Air Shoes commercial is voiced by José Otávio "Tatá" Guarnieri, in a special cameo. Guarnieri commonly dubs Jim Carrey in Brazil, and does so for Dr. Robotnik in both live-action Sonic the Hedgehog films.
Similarly, Mike Pollock, the voice actor of Dr. Eggman in the video game series, voices the same cameo in the English dub.
Finally, Mario Castañeda, Mexican voice actor who frequently dubs Jim Carrey in Latin-American Spanish, also playing Dr. Robotnik in the Spanish dub of the live-action Sonic movies, also voices the same Air Shoes cameo in the Spanish dub of this short film.
- Crazy creditsAt the very end of the credits, the Bible verse "Romans 11:36" is displayed.
