Predicting box office estimates is far from an exact science, as many films often come far above or far under expectations all the time. Weeks before 20th Century Fox's Deadpool hit theaters, early projections claimed the superhero adventure would take in between $55 million and $60 million on its opening weekend, and as we got closer to the release date, some predicted it could get as high as $80 million. As it turns out, they were all wrong, with Box Office Mojo reporting this critically-acclaimed R-rated adventure shattered both expectations and records alike, taking in a whopping $135 million, and it's expected to cross $150 million over the four-day President's Day holiday weekend.
Armed with a slew of positive reviews to the tune of an 84% "Fresh" Rotten Tomatoes rating, Deadpool shattered the record for highest grossing R-rated opening weekend of $91.7 million, held for 13 years by The Matrix Reloaded. It also shattered Fifty Shades of Grey's February record of $85.1 million,...

In the past few years, February has gone from a month that rarely features any box office hits, to a viable frame to open big blockbusters. Recent hits like The Lego Movie, Fifty Shades of Grey and Kingsman: The Secret Service have proved that fans will brave the elements and head to the theaters in droves for the right movie, and this year is no different, with three new releases arriving this weekend, all of which are slated to take in more than $20 million, according to the projections at Pro.BoxOffice.com. The big runaway winner, though, is expected to be the superhero adaptation Deadpool, which could come close to making box office history, although Zoolander 2 and How to Be Single are expected to perform well also.
Last month, analysts started tracking this blockbuster-to-be, predicting that its opening weekend could be anywhere between $55 million and $60 million. The movie has...

The hit animated sequel Kung Fu Panda 3 ended the first month of 2016 on a high note at the box office, taking in $48 million in its opening weekend. In the first frame of February, this adventure will face three new movies, Universal's Hail, Caesar!, Sony's Pride and Prejudice and Zombies and Lionsgate's The Choice. As expected, none of these new releases could beat Kung Fu Panda 3, which won for a second weekend in a row with an estimated $21 million.
The animated sequel Kung Fu Panda 3 currently has a solid 80% "Fresh" rating on Rotten Tomatoes, and it opened in 3,955 theaters, which will still make it the widest release in theaters this weekend, by a long-shot. Kung Fu Panda 3 marks the return of one of the most successful animated franchises in the world, with its biggest comedy adventure yet. When Po's (Jack Black) long-lost panda father (Bryan Cranston) suddenly reappears,...
