Dark Winds has added a major player to the cast for season 4. The AMC thriller series, which is based on the Leaphorn & Chee books by Tony Hillerman, follows Joe Leaphorn (Zahn McClarnon), Bernadette Manuelito (Jessica Matten), and Jim Chee (Kiowa Gordon), a trio of Navajo Tribal Police officers who work in the Four Corners region. The show, which is so popular that Dark Winds season 4 was renewed before season 3 even premiered, has featured appearances by a variety of stars, including Rainn Wilson, Bruce Greenwood, Jenna Elfman, and Jeri Ryan.
Per Deadline, Franka Potente has joined the cast of Dark Winds season 4 in the season's first new guest role, playing an as-yet unknown character. The German actor has most recently been seen another AMC series, Mayfair Witches, playing the role of Annamieke, who is a member of the secret society Talamasca, in two episodes of season 2 of the Anne Rice's Immortal Universe series.

A few months ago, legendary director and cinematic gatekeeper Martin Scorsese shared a recommendation for the horror film I Saw the TV Glow. Now, Scorsese has taken a moment to hype up another horror film, and this time it was The Witch, The Lighthouse, and The Northman writer/director Robert Eggers‘ remake of F.W. The eerie Orlok seeks to buy a house near Hutter and his wife, Ellen (Greta Schroeder). After Orlok reveals his vampire nature, Hutter struggles to escape the castle, knowing that Ellen is in grave danger. Meanwhile Orlok’s servant, Knock (Alexander Granach), prepares for his master to arrive at his new home.

The horror genre is well-regarded in cinema as the closest thing to a guaranteed money-maker there is, at least where non-ip is concerned. Horror movies in general have a built-in fan base who are always willing (if not eager) to go check out the latest supernatural thriller, throwback slasher, zombie flick, or whatever other scares are in store. However, one of the other staples of the genre is its thriftiness — you don't need a huge budget to make an effective and successful horror movie, and that in turn makes it more possible for the movie to be successful at the box office. Although most horror movies turn a healthy profit, you don't tend to see too many reaching the same lofty financial heights as the average multi-million dollar blockbuster.
The closest horror movies come to earning billions of dollars is when they're part of a successful franchise, and sometimes not even then.

Madison Wolfe is back in the horror-thriller genre with The Man in the White Van. Having made her acting debut in 2012 with back-to-back roles in the Kristen Stewart-starring adaptation of On the Road and Will Ferrell and Zach Galifianakis-led political comedy The Campaign, Wolfe found her breakout turn in 2016's The Conjuring 2, portraying the target of the movie's supernatural threat, Janet Hodgson. In the years since, Wolfe not only reunited with James Wan on Malignant, but also led the well-received adaptation of I Kill Giants and in multiple episodes of Mayfair Witches.
Wolfe stars in The Man in the White Van as Annie, a teenage girl living in a small town in Florida in the '70s with her younger brother, older sister and her parents. Often prone to letting her imagination run wild, and frequently butting heads with her sister and mother, Annie suddenly finds herself...

The Conjuring universe timeline is perhaps the most needlessly convoluted of any cinematic universe. Chronologically, the first four films to come out were The Conjuring (2013), Annabelle (2014), The Conjuring 2 (2016), and Annabelle: Creation (2017). These films took place in 1971, 1967, 1977, and 1955, respectively. Annabelle was a prequel to The Conjuring, while Annabelle: Creation was a sequel to Annabelle, though it narratively functioned as a prequel.
The through-line between the first two Annabelle films and The Conjuring is the doll itself. It first appeared at the start of The Conjuring when the real-life demonologists Ed and Lorraine Warren were giving a lecture to college students about how they came into possession of the Annabelle doll. Set in 1968, this prologue detailed the Warrens' visit with two nursing students who believed their doll was haunted. Annabelle and Annabelle: Creation delved into the doll's backstory — who built it, what happened to its creators, and who exactly Annabelle was.

The fourth movie under the series' name and the ninth installment overall in the horror shared universe, the story of The Conjuring: Last Rites marks the end of Ed (Patrick Wilson) and Lorraine Warren (Vera Farmiga) digging into paranormal hauntings. Murnau’s 1922 silent classic Nosferatu (watch it Here) is set to reach theatres on Wednesday, December 25th – and during an interview with SFX magazine, Eggers revealed that actor Bill Skarsgard (It), who plays the title character, improved his film by bringing vulnerability to a vampire that Eggers originally envisioned as nothing but demonic evil.
An unofficial adaptation of Bram Stoker’s Dracula, the original Nosferatu has the following synopsis: In this highly influential silent horror film, the mysterious Count Orlok (Max Schreck) summons Thomas Hutter (Gustav von Wangenheim) to his remote Transylvanian castle in the mountains. Ever since the 2023 release of The Nun II, fans have looked back on its predecessor to see exactly what made this film so unique to The Conjuring Universe. Although many viewers consider The Nun one of the worst installments in The Conjuring Universe due to how it often relies on classic jump-scares and mediocre plot twists to shock its audience, it utilizes unique thematic elements to create one of the most aesthetically creepy atmospheres of the entire franchise. This is a big part of why The Nun is scary, and why it's an important part of the overall franchise.

Murnau’s 1922 silent classic Nosferatu (watch it Here) is set to reach theatres on Wednesday, December 25th – and while there has been a lot of talk about the transformation Bill Skarsgard (It) underwent to play the title character (Skarsgard himself has said that playing Nosferatu / Count Orlok was like “conjuring pure evil. It took a while for me to shake off the demon that had been conjured inside of me. … I do not think people are gonna recognize me in it.“), it has been confirmed that we won’t be seeing a good shot of the dead Transylvanian nobleman until the movie reaches the big screen.

The Witch, The Lighthouse, and The Northman writer/director Robert Eggers‘ remake of F.W. Murnau’s 1922 silent classic Nosferatu (watch it Here) is set to reach theatres on Wednesday, December 25th – and to celebrate the occasion, Heretic Parfum and Focus Features have teamed up to bring the world a limited edition fragrance that will allow people to smell like “an encounter with an apparition in the cold, damp caves of Count Orlok’s castle.” This fragrance is called Nosferatu Eau de Macabre, and can be purchased through the Heretic Parfum website.
Here’s the description of the Nosferatu Eau de Macabre fragrance: “In partnership with Nosferatu and Focus Features, Heretic is proud to present Nosferatu Eau de Macabre, a fragrance inspired by the iconic vampire. A chilling scent of wilting lilacs, velvety vegan ambergris and strikes of lightning that fill the air with petrichor and electricity—It’s both delicate and hedonistic.

In Janji Darah’s ending, a message on the screen says, “This is a part of my life story.” So I suppose everything I’m about to tell you is based on true events? The film tells the story of Rayhan and Sher, a young married couple who are terrorized in their home just as they’re about to start a family. Sher and Rayhan are hoping to start a family, and they’ve been struggling to do so for a while. At the beginning of the film, Sher learns she’s pregnant, and soon enough, sinister things start to take place in their home. When I talk about The Conjuring 2, I always describe it as “romance-horror,” where romance takes the upper hand; at the end of the day, it’s a love story. However, having seen this one, I think it’s an even more apt label for Janji Darah.

2016's The Legend of Tarzan was a critical and commercial failure, even though it had assembled many of the ingredients that could have made it an adventure classic. The movie, which starred Alexander Skarsgrd as Tarzan and Margot Robbie as Jane, was a retelling of the story of the iconic Edgar Rice Burroughs character. Tarzan is a multimedia icon, and his story was adapted to the screen as early as 1918 in the silent film Tarzan of the Apes, with more than four dozen adaptations to follow, including Disney's Oscar-winning 1999 animated movie Tarzan.
The 2016 title is the most recent Tarzan movie to hit the big screen, and its general reception may be one reason that the property has since gone dormant on the big screen for nearly a decade. In addition to most likely failing to turn a profit in theaters, it was excoriated by critics and met with apathy from general audiences.

You’ve still got time to squeeze in some scary shows before Halloween: We recommend these limited series, including AMC’s “The Terror,” and the original “Salem’s Lot” from 1979, that can easily be binged in a weekend or just a day.
The series on our list are all under 10 episodes and available to stream right now, so grab your big bucket of popcorn, get cozy on the couch and spend some time with these vampires, ghosts, witches and some really haunted real estate.
“The Terror” (AMC) The Terror
Based on the real-life doomed arctic expedition of Captain Sir John Franklin (played here by Ciarán Hinds): We see the men aboard two ships, one of which is unwisely named the Hms Terror, struggle as they slowly try to carve a path through the ice. But there’s something (or things) much more sinister plaguing the journey. Jared Harris and Tobias Menzies costar.

As part of The Conjuring Universe, The Nun includes true-story connections that make the movie more disturbing. Based on the experience of real-life demonologists Ed and Lorraine Warren, The Conjuring Universe tells stories purported as real-life horrors with a supernatural connection. Actors Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga have made the Warrens household names, but previous films have made tenuous connections between fact, fiction, and horror.
Questions about the movies inspirations become even stronger when considering the prequel, The Nun. The Nun takes place decades before the rest of The Conjuring Universe movies hauntings and in an entirely different part of the world. Its a safe assumption that Romanian history isnt as well known to most viewers, making it easier to blur the lines between reality and fiction. Still, the story isnt entirely baseless. The Conjuring film franchise is set to come to an end with the fourth installment, The Conjuring: Last Rites, which Warner Bros. has scheduled for a theatrical release on September 5, 2025 release. We had previously heard that this movie would be filming in the Atlanta, Georgia area, but apparently they’re doing some work across the pond as well, as we also heard that filming was scheduled to take place in London, England from September 10th through October 10th this year. Whatever the schedules and locations may be, The Conjuring: Last Rite is indeed currently in production – which producer James Wan has just proven by sharing an image from the set!
