How It's Made: Dream Cars

Awful music.

I'm neither an engineer or a gear-head. But I enjoy the Dream Car side of How It's Made shows. My single objection to these shows is the background music, it is awful. How much heavy metal do the producers need to use to get the point across? Apparently there can never be enough. Here is an interesting show about some really astonishing and beautifully designed and built modern super-cars and the whole show is overlain with the same miserable droning of buzz guitars and pounding drums. The real live sounds of the shops would be far better than that stuff. I guess the producers think they have to appeal to a certain demographic of which I am not a part. At best I can get through two episodes then I can't stand it anymore. There is so much more and better music out there for background. There is the world of Jazz, New Age, Techno, Easy Listening, and even Classical. If the producer won't change it lower way down and maybe use some real shop sounds. Great show. I'll watch with ear plugs in.

Audi s8

I was very disappointed while watching this show that it didn't have a narrator who is more versed in the German language, since this is a German car. Many of the towns that were mentioned were brutally mispronounced. Also some of the sayings and names in German were also horribly mispronounced. I was born and raised in Germany and I am embarrassed at how this narrator slaughtered the German language. I would love to offer my linguistic services to make this and even better show.

unbearable audio track. please sack the music supervisor

I find the subject matter of this programme interesting and have tried to watch it many times but i find the inane heavy metal guitar audio track overpowering, tasteless and unbearable. It's totally unnecessary and off-putting and limits the viewers demographic to a limited number of metal heads. The producers need to sack their music supervisor for someone with a knowledge of music to synch something more appropriate. The programme would be fine if i could switch the insane music off and actually hear what teh narrator is saying.

It makes an otherwise interesting programme completely unbearable and i'll watch a few seconds before it tips me over the edge reaching for the mute or channel button. Clearly there's a shortfall in the producer chain not to spot how distracting and inappropriate that insane guitar sounds to most people.

Horrid background music. Very annoying and spoils the show

The background music is so boiler-plate and disgusting. This is a very interesting program and I love watching how these cars are made. I'm a gear head and have built three cars, my most recent is a Cobra. But the music is annoying and really degrades the show. Producers please do something about the incongruent noise.

Episode 3 Ferrari FF factory broken socket mistake!!

Don't know how or who to contact but at minute 17:25 of episode 3 the socket he's using to torque the intake manifold is split and therefore not torquing the manifold and who knows knows what else to factory spec. Wondering how many Ferrari FFs left the factory untorqued. Hope someone sees this because that is an extremely rookie mistake to be having in a world class factory.

Why is that LOUD awful heavy metal music played in every episode ?

Being an ex car mechanic and aircraft structural technician , ( non counting some mistakes in explanation ) i enjoy your program , but for God's sake stop that LOUD MUSIC , it is so F.......g bothersome that i try to lower the volume and have a hard time to listen to the narrator's speech , why do you need to throw that noise that you think is music is such a good program ? What about using some soft music at LOW volume just to break the silence between takes? Please give me some feedback , call me, and when we'l have a chat i'l make sure i'l play some of your LOUD music while we're on the phone and see how you'l like it !!!! Regards Robert Piva

Get rid of that music.

I love car programs such as this one and I like rock music but I don't want to hear intrusive, repetitive, computer generated bad riffs while I'm trying to concentrate on the content. Why does everything have to be accompanied by music nowadays?

Update the music

Newsflash! People OTHER than metal heads watch this show, including this 60+yo grandmother. The music is tremendously irritating but I can't mute it because CCD isn't available. Therefore, I can't watch this show as much as I want.

Dreck

Who writes this drivel...a 12-year old intern? Does anyone actually know ANYTHING about cars? Is there no proofreader assigned to the script, or does that individual also lack any automotive knowledge?

Aside from insipid sing-song dialog that insults my intelligence minute- to-minute, I can generally pick out at least 15-20 factual errors in every episode, from mismatched clips/narration, to outright incorrect terminology.

The only way to watch this show is with the audio muted...just enjoy watching the video and, at the end, you will know more about the dream car's production than the writers.

The music is SO bad that I can't even watch the show!

That terrible, heavy rock-pig chugging guitar is unforgivable. How did this EVER get by the people who produce the show? I used to do soundtrack music and I have no idea why nobody in the chain didn't mention how annoying it was. Maybe they did but nobody listened to them? Who knows, but I have to turn the sound right down on my TV but usually I just give up and switch the channel.

Idea - brilliant Script - poor Narration - much to be desired

I find it so very annoying that with ALL these How It's Made programs that they substitute different narrators depending on the country ... Canada (where it's produced), USA, UK. We all speak basically the same language. Sure there are some minor differences, but not enough to demand a different narrator! I was listening to Dream Cars today (CDN edition). The pronunciation errors drove me crazy ... especially "assembly" ... The word is not assem-bully it's assem-blee There were a host of others. This is as annoying as library!

Similar problems exist in the original How It's Made series with narration by Lynne Adams but it's still horribly distracting and the scripts are pathetic "A worker takes part X and puts it on a conveyor" Yeah, we can see that!

Season 3 so far is mashes of Season 1 and Season 2 episodes, disappointed...

So mad at Science Channel How It's Made Dream Cars... so far season 3 is nothing but combinations of season 1 and season 2 episodes... Its such that's b*******...

Season 3 Episode 1 "Spy cars" is Bentley Continental GT Speed (Season 1, Episode 10) and Aston Martin Vanquish (Season 2, Episode 16)

Season 3 Episode 2 "American Muscle" is Superformance GT40 (Season 2, Episode 14) and Chevrolet Corvette Stingray (Season 2, Episode 8)

With so many amazing cars in the world, there is absolutely no reason to mash episodes together from only two seasons of cars... ~_~

To meet the requirements for submitting the review, here is what I said again...

GET RID OF THAT HEAVY METAL BACKGROUND MUSIC!

The concept is great, with insight to behind the scenes construction of some of the world's most iconic supercars.

Unfortunately the heavy metal background music makes the series unwatchable!

What a missed opportunity. You were given rare access to some of the best automotive factories on the planet yet you produced an unwatchable series.

To make things worse, the script is so corny it seems like it was written by a primary school idiot.

These guys should take some pointers from the more refined British productions.

I either switch channel after 2 minutes to avoid a throbbing headache or if it is a really iconic car I actually watch with the sound off!

The cliche ending punchlines are excruciatingtly cheesy!

This program has science mistakes that should be corrected

The most annoying thing about this program is using incorrect units on measurements. I've just finished watching a "DREAM CARS" about building a Rolls Royce auto and this was done twice. First of all the narrator describes about the pressure applied to produce a laminate as a certain number of pounds. The problem is that a pound is a unit of force. Pressure is force per unit area, P=F/A. The correct unit should be pounds per square inch, usually abbreviated as psi, in the Imperial system of measurement, which is what's commonly used in the USA. In the metric system the proper unit would be newtons per square meter, which is called a Pascal. In the same episode he describes the torque applied to tighten a bolt as so many foot-pounds. This is also incorrect.

In the imperial system of measurement work is measured in ft-lbs, while torque is measured in pound-feet, However, to calculate work, it's assumed the two quantities are in the same direction, while calculating torque, the force and distance are perpendicular. The reverse order indicates this difference and gives each quantity its own unique unit. A more detailed explanation is given in the next paragraph.

These two quantities seem to be identical, because 4x3 =3x4 etc. In simple arithmetic this would be true. Multiplication is considered to be a "commutative" process. However, in mathematics, there are two types of multiplication, a "cross product", symbolized by an X, as in A X B and a "dot product" symbolized by, appropriately, by a dot, as in A-B The difference is that the dot product is what is used in normal arithmetic, while a cross product is not commutative, A X B DOES NOT EQUAL B X A. To calculate work, force multiplied by distance, the force and the distance are assumed to be in the same direction. To calculate torque, T = F x D, the force is applied is assumed to be perpendicular direction of movement. By using the unit lb-ft, as apposed to ft-lb, indicates the perpendicular relationship between force and distance and avoids confusion.

While to 99.99..% of viewers this does not matter, it is important. In the USA this program is aired on the Science Channel. As such I think it behooves them and the "How It's Made" narrative editors to be as accurate and truthful. Maybe have scientists check the narration be fore the episode is produced. Here in the USA, People bemoan the fact that a lot of our youth is not science and math literate. There is a shortage of American scientists and engineers. It is perhaps indicative of this that these programs are ignorant in many areas.
