A comprehensive exhibition of Yoko Ono’s art, “Music of the Mind,” will open at Chicago’s Museum of Contemporary Art (McA) in October. What's the saddest moment in all of "Breaking Bad"? Some would say it's when Walt (Bryan Cranston) steals his infant daughter Holly away from his wife Skyler (Anna Gunn) in their big fight in "Ozymandias." Or maybe it's the follow-up episode where Walt wastes away alone in rural New Hampshire, dying from his returned cancer and struggling with all the damage he's caused to his family. (You can read our detailed interview with the showrunners and writers about how they cooked up the final season of "Breaking Bad" right here.)
But I'd argue that the show's saddest moment was the intense death of poor Jane (Krysten Ritter), a woman who seemed really cool before she relapsed, but then started spiraling hard along with Jesse (Aaron Paul). Jane often gets a lot of flak from fans for introducing Jesse to heroin or for blackmailing Walt, but she never would've done those...

For a show that claimed to be about nothing, Larry David and Jerry Seinfeld’s creation proved to be one of the biggest hits of the ’90s, and the finale for Seinfeld itself garnered a whopping 76.3 million viewers upon premiere. However, it’s important to note that the bulk of the sitcom’s success arrived in the latter half of its lifespan, particularly after season four.

But this isn’t to say the early seasons didn’t have it perks, which included gems like The Chinese Restaurant, and even though NBC wasn’t initially too thrilled about it, David recognized the show’s potential pretty early on.

After a divisive pilot, which almost pushed the show toward cancellation, NBC was apparently breathing down the creators’ necks for the first couple of seasons.

Widely considered to be one of the greatest shows to ever grace the small screen, Breaking Bad has undoubtedly cemented itself as a nearly flawless series. It premiered on AMC in January 2008 to generally positive reviews. However, it wasn’t until the show’s following seasons that critics really began to praise the series. As one of the most critically acclaimed shows of all time, it’s no wonder the series won numerous awards over its five-season run. With 16 Primetime Emmy Awards, two Golden Globe Awards, two Peabody Awards, and many others, Breaking Bad is undoubtedly a phenomenal series.
Set in Albuquerque, New Mexico, the show follows a high school chemistry teacher named Walter White (Bryan Cranston). In the wake of a devastating stage-three lung cancer diagnosis, Walter seeks out a former student, Jesse Pinkman (Aaron Paul), to help him produce and distribute methamphetamine. Michael Bay is in Miami, which seems right. He also doesn’t exactly love strictly scheduled interviews, and instead just calls when he’s ready to chat, which also seems right. Today, the director of tentpole blockbusters like The Rock and the Transformers franchise is calling to talk about his new parkour documentary, We Are Storror, which is debuting at the 2025 South by Southwest Film Festival this weekend.
Interviewing Bay feels like watching one of his summer tentpole hits. He’s energetic, upbeat and full of boyish humor (and plenty of f-bombs). He’s now 60, but thankfully still sounds like how you expect Michael Bay to sound — like a guy who is still ready to blow some shit up (“Oh, you live in Austin?” he asks, “I burned down a house there once!”).
Interestingly, this idea — can we maintain our playfulness as we age? — is a major theme in We Are Storror.

Writer-director Leigh Whannell’s “The Invisible Man” was one of the best films of 2020, a thoughtful and terrifying thriller about domestic abuse that earned comparison with the work of horror masters like John Carpenter and Wes Craven. Understandably, the studio and production company behind the movie — Universal and Blumhouse, respectively — wanted something similar from Whannell for his next film. The director himself wasn’t so sure.
“I was a bit wary of leaping into another monster movie,” he told IndieWire. When Universal and Blumhouse asked him if he had any ideas for a new “Wolf Man” movie, he was apprehensive — but his prospective employers weren’t willing to give up easily. “They were very clever. They basically said, ‘If you were to do it, what would be your take? No commitment, just what you would do.’ And of course, I started thinking about it as an exercise.”

There’s a reboot of the classic Universal Monsters property The Wolf Man coming our way from Blumhouse Productions and The Invisible Man (2020) director Leigh Whannell, aiming for a January 17, 2025 theatrical release – and while speaking to Empire, Whannell revealed that he drew inspiration from David Cronenberg’s remake of The Fly when he was crafting his take on this classic werewolf story.
Whannell said, “What The Fly did that a lot of other practical-effects-driven horror movies from that time did not do was bring the tragedy out of these practical effects. It wasn’t a joke in The Fly. It was there to illustrate someone who was dying of an illness. I was like, ‘I’ve got to do that.’ It’s not about being funny or icky or gory. This is about the tragedy of the human body falling apart.“

This turns out to be a werewolf, who infected Blake, causing him to slowly shapeshift into the beast under the light of the full moon.
Speaking with Empire, Whannell explained how the 1986 body horror movie The Fly was a key inspiration for Blake's upcoming transformation sequence in Wolf Man. The director said the terrifying elements of the '80s film also emphasized the tragedy of the situation, something he also wanted to emphasize with how Blake and his family confront what's happening. Check out what Whannell had to say about the...

The deeper meaning behind the Breaking Bad "Fly" episode shows that while it was one of the series most divisive, it was also among its most inventive. Breaking Bad season 3, episode 10 was criticized by some for being too slow and lacking any plot development. Others praised the Breaking Bad fly episode as a subtle character exploration. "Fly" primarily focused on Walt and Jesse, with Walt already sleep-deprived thanks to a fly on the ceiling above his bed. His day got worse when their calculations resulted in a short supply of meth.
After Jesse left for the day, Walt stayed behind to deal with a fly buzzing around the lab, worried that it would contaminate the meth. Breaking Bad creator Vince Gilligan explained that "Fly" was a bottle episode, meaning that it was contained in one location. The reason for the episode was financial, as the show couldn't afford additional filming locations.

The sci-fi horror classic The Fly is getting a follow-up, and from whats known about it so far, it could be the closest we get to David Cronenbergs canceled follow-up project. Few sci-fi movies have had the impact that David Cronenbergs 1986 The Fly had. Loosely based on George Langelaans 1957 short story of the same name and the 1958 film adaptation of it, The Fly introduced the world to Seth Brundle (Jeff Goldblum), an eccentric but brilliant scientist working on a secret project. When he meets science journalist Ronnie Quaife (Geena Davis), Seth shows her his invention: telepods for teleportation.
Seth decides to test the telepods himself, but he doesnt know there is a housefly inside one of the pods. What follows is Seths gradual and shocking transformation into a human/fly hybrid, as Ronnie witnesses how he slowly loses his humanity. The Fly was a critical and commercial success, and it...

After crafting the best film of 2023 with The Beast, Bertrand Bonello is prepping his next feature. While he was tight-lipped on details, he tells Variety, “It’s a little early to talk about it. It’s going to be very different. It’s going to be completely different. The writing is finished, and we’re going to start the casting process. I’m going to announce it once the casting is done. I hope to start shooting next September.” Speaking about how cinema is changing, he added, “This mutation is freaky and fascinating. If you don’t involve it in your creation, you’re out. It’s always an equilibrium. You must protect the past and welcome the future. If you just welcome the future, you’re lost in the movement. If you protect the past, you’re out now.”

Back in 1986, David Cronenberg directed a remake of Kurt Neumann’s 1958 sci-fi horror classic The Fly (which was based on George Langelaan’s short story) – and the result is considered to be one of the best remakes of all time. 20th Century Fox, now the Disney subsidiary 20th Century Studios, has been wanting to replicate that success with another remake for a couple of decades now… but the project has never managed to escape from development hell. Cronenberg wanted to come back and make another Fly movie, but it fell apart over budgetary issues. Screenwriter Todd Lincoln wrote a remake of The Fly that he described as a “dark, twisted, grounded re- imagining… Part Val-Lewton, part J.G. Ballard, part Neal Stephenson with some Horror Manga touches.” The studio wasn’t into it. J.D. Dillard was attached to direct a new version of The Fly for years, then stepped away from it.

Fly episode From Breaking Bad became the most controversial ( Photo Credit – Instagram )
Of all the jaw-dropping moments in Breaking Bad, season 3’s “Fly” episode remains its most polarizing. Some call it genius, others a snooze fest—but either way, it’s unforgettable. This bottle episode, directed by Rian Johnson and contained entirely in one location, didn’t just cut costs—it dived deep into Walter White’s psyche. The plot? Simple. A buzzing fly. The impact? Huge.
At first glance, it was slower than fans used to. Walt, tired and spiraling, becomes obsessed with a fly in his lab. That’s right—a single fly becomes the villain of the hour, and Walt can’t rest until it’s gone. The real meaning? This isn’t just any pest problem; the fly represents something much darker: Walt’s mounting guilt. Season 3 saw Walt’s transition from a desperate chem teacher to a hardened criminal.

Among horror movie subgenres, body horror is one of the most revolting, with the most prominent offenders standing the test of time as delightfully disgusting films. Body horror is a term that encompasses a wide range of spooky subjects, from nauseating inhuman transformations of the flesh to traditional blood and gore rendered in increasingly creative ways. The most appalling body horror scenes tend to skew towards the former, making for some of the genre's standout films that have withstood ages of scrutiny.
Interestingly, despite their reliance on special effects to work, some of the best body horror movies are mired in practical effects, with the medium somehow working more realistically when done with lovingly-crafted prosthetics. The infamous works of David Cronenberg stand out in this arena, being responsible for some chilling imagery that explores the true lengths the human body can go to in cinema. Whether traditionally sculpted or computer generated,...

In the era of too much TV, when shows aren't given enough episodes to develop their characters or settle into a good rhythm, it's easy to forget that not long ago, we were living in a new golden age of TV shows. One series that helped define much of this era was "Breaking Bad," the show that was initially turned down by many networks before ultimately becoming one of the most celebrated and acclaimed TV shows of all time.
Across 62 episodes, the story of Walter White (Bryan Cranston), a chemistry teacher whose terminal cancer diagnosis prompts him to start a life of crime and become a meth kingpin, captivated audiences and only got bigger as the era of streaming kicked into overdrive. For five seasons, we followed Walter's rise to power, the lies he told to his family and friends, and the many, many bodies that hit the floor in his wake.

The National Geographic documentary “Fly” opens with vintage footage of Franz Reichelt’s infamous 1912 attempt to jump off the Eiffel Tower wearing wings, resulting in his death. It’s a disturbing image but also, somewhat grimly, a funny one in the foolishness of the endeavor. Who in their right mind would do such a thing?
That dichotomy hangs over the rest of this film about Base jumping from directors Christina Clusiau and Shaul Schwarz. The movie attempts to highlight the beauty of the sport while grappling with how absurdly dangerous it is. It succeeds at highlighting the extreme personalities of those drawn to such an endeavor, but fails to make those of us that would prefer to remain with our feet on the ground understand why it’s worth it.

Filmmakers Shaul Schwarz and Christina Clusiau are inviting audiences to take a trust fall in an exclusive to Collider sneak peek of the upcoming film, Fly. Celebrating the dangerous yet thrilling sport of Base jumping, the documentary will keep audiences on the edge of their seats from start to finish. Further driving up the pulse-pounding excitement, Fly wont have a normal cinematic release as it will instead head straight to IMAX theaters for a two-day engagement on September 2 and 3. If you cant go along for the ride during the IMAX drop or are just too chicken to see it in the immersive theatrical experience, fear not as the documentary will be arriving on National Geographic 24, with streaming on Disney+ and Hulu to follow on September 25.
