Here’s the official description for the show, which received a straight-to-series order at the streaming service: In the near future, Sophie (Hilary Duff) is telling her son the story of how she met his father: a story that catapults us back to the year 2021 where Sophie and her close-knit group of friends are in the midst of figuring out who they are, what they want out of life, and how to fall in love in the age of dating apps and limitless options.

Lowell will play Jesse, who is described as “smart, a bit of an edge and cynical about love. He’s an aspiring musician who works as an Uber driver to make ends meet and lives with his best friend Tom.

Years have passed, but the How I Met Your Mother series finale (How I Met Your Mother Season 9 Episode 23 and How I Met Your Mother Season 9 Episode 24) remains terrible.

Those episodes committed many unforgivable TV sins.

It rendered the entire series pointless.

It killed the rewatch value because even random episodes could remind you of the finale and how it undermined the series as a whole.

At first, it admittedly seems like a bad late April Fool’s prank. Alas, it is not.

Per Deadline, Hulu today announced that it had commissioned a full-season, 10-episode order for a sequel to the hit CBS comedy How I Met Your Mother. To switch things up a bit, this iteration will be called How I Met Your Father and will star Hilary Duff (Lizzie McGuire) as Sophie, a woman in the future who is telling her son the story of how she met his father.

The new series comes from This Is Us showrunners and Love, Victor creators Isaac Aptaker and Elizabeth Berger. Himym creators Carter Bays and Craig Thomas are onboard as producers, as is Duff in addition to holding down the starring role.

Hulu has given the project, which will star Hilary Duff, a straight-to-series order from creators Isaac Aptaker and Elizabeth Berger.

It is a long road to air for the project. Back in 2014, Himym creators Craig Thomas & Carter Bays and Emily Spivey wrote a pilot for CBS that starred Greta Gerwig and Drew Tarver, but it wasn’t picked up.

A “How I Met Your Mother” sequel series titled “How I Met Your Father” has been ordered at Hulu with Hilary Duff attached to star.

In the near future, Sophie (Duff) is telling her son the story of how she met his father: a story that catapults us back to the year 2021 where Sophie and her close-knit group of friends are in the midst of figuring out who they are, what they want out of life, and how to fall in love in the age of dating apps and limitless options. According to an individual with knowledge of the project, it remains unclear how/if the new show will tie into the original.

Meg Ryan will executive produce and “potentially” star in a comedy project for NBC, “The Obsolescents,” from Lorne Michaels.

The comedy takes place in a New Jersey suburb where the facade of peace and civility is disrupted by the shocking death of a longtime Township Council member. If Ryan were to come aboard as the star for the comedy, it would mark the first regular TV role for the “Sleepless in Seattle” and “You’ve Got Mail” star in decades.

She was attached to narrate CBS’ ill-fated “How I Met Your Mother” spinoff, “How I Met Your Dad,” which never got past the pilot stage.
