After two seasons of the spinoff sitcom, the How I Met Your Father season 3 news confirms the show's end. Premiering in 2022, How I Met Your Father recreated the success of the wildly popular How I Met Your Mother and follows Sophie (Hilary Duff) and her group of 30-something friends who pursue their careers and love lives in Manhattan. Like the show that spawned it, How I Met Your Father follows the same framing device involving a future version of Sophie recounting how she met the father of her kids.

Some TV pilots for popular franchises, like Wonder Woman and How I Met Your Dad, didn't make it past the first stage and were either remade or scrapped completely. Even well-known TV franchises, like Game of Thrones and Buffy the Vampire Slayer, had original pilots that required significant changes before they were picked up as series. Some comic book adaptation pilots, such as Aquaman and Generation X, faced challenges with poor reception and low budgets, resulting in the cancelation of their TV series plans.
Pilot episodes are used to demonstrate what a TV show will look like, and many are raw compared to the actual resulting series, but there are still some popular franchises with surprisingly terrible examples. In many cases, TV pilots become the first episode of the series. However, some pilots don't make it past that first stage and they either have to be remade or they immediately kill the project completely.

How I Met Your Father's cancellation confirms that the spinoff was not able to sustain enough audience interest, just like the failed pilot, How I Met Your Dad. Despite receiving mixed reviews, the finale of How I Met Your Father season 1 captured the feel of its parent show, but not enough to save it from cancellation after two seasons. The failure of Hulu's series indicates that any spinoff based on How I Met Your Mother would likely have met a similar end, putting to rest the question of "what could have been" for Gerwig's pilot.
How I Met Your Father has officially been canceled, proving that a past How I Met Your Mother spinoff was better off dead in the water. The Hulu series gave it its best shot and made it through two seasons. The fact that it didn't immediately flop proves that the concept wasn't too...

Spinoffs of successful shows often fail to live up to the original series, even if they last for years. Introducing new characters in a spinoff can be a challenging task to keep fans interested. Many poorly received spinoffs, such as Joey and Once Upon A Time In Wonderland, should never have happened in the first place.
It's not uncommon for successful shows to be followed up by bad spinoffs that should never have happened, failing to live up to the initial series. While networks assume fans will follow the show and its characters into a new adaptation, this isn't always the case. Even on the occasion that a spinoff does go on for years, a lot of the time, it still isn't as good as the original series was.

The controversial ending of How I Met Your Mother, which ruined the show for many viewers, has now been made even worse with the cancellation of its spinoff series, How I Met Your Father. How I Met Your Father had the potential to redeem the franchise and provide a satisfactory conclusion, but it was canceled after just two seasons, leaving audiences with an unplanned cliffhanger. The cancellation of How I Met Your Father further tarnishes the reputation of the franchise and suggests that the creators lost their recipe for success, especially considering the failed spinoff, How I Met Your Dad.
How I Met Your Mother had one of the most controversial series endings of all time, and although it's been nine years since it aired, it's now become even worse. The 2005 sitcom has an interesting premise, with one character, Ted Mosby, recounting the stories of himself and four friends, as...

My sophomore year of college started with “How I Met Your Mother.”
I had just moved into my first apartment with four roommates, some of whom I’d known for years and others who were effectively strangers. As another University of Michigan Welcome Week unfolded, we started every day on the couch bingeing this show none of us had ever seen before, becoming instant fans. Whoever woke first each morning would start the day’s viewing, the theme song beckoning us to crawl out of our respective bedrooms in a Pavlovian undergraduate hangover ritual.
We never found our way back to the series, then in its sixth season on CBS, but would always remember it as an essential part of becoming roommates. I’ve only revisited “Himym” once since its notorious 2014 series finale — it aged poorly enough for me to make immediate peace with never returning again — and had no...

How I Met Your Father is the highly-anticipated spinoff of the widely successful 2005 TV show that follows Ted Mosby (Josh Radnor) as he recounts his life story to his two children. The two released seasons of How I Met Your Father follow the same structure of the original show, with Sophie (Hilary Duff) telling her son the comedic story of how she met his father.
The show was created by Isaac Aptaker and Elizabeth Berger, who are both known for their work on Love, Simon and Love, Victor. Alongside Hilary Duff, the cast includes Chris Lowell, Francia Raisa, Tom Ainsely, and Josh Peck. The narrator, the late Bob Saget from Full House, was an important part...

Before How I Met Your Father premiered in 2022 as the How I Met Your Mother spinoff, How I Met Your Dad shot a pretty bad pilot. The series differs from Himyf in several ways like Greta Gerwig playing the main character role instead of Hilary Duff. Luckily Himyf found success, currently airing its second season on Hulu, but the original series wasn't such a success. There were some conflicts between CBS and the show creators that led to its cancelation, but there were also many aspects of the pilot that weren't good.
The idea for Himyf didn't initially take off either, and for a while, it seemed there was no chance of a Himym spinoff ever happening. Based on the Himyd pilot, it's easy to understand why networks didn't want to pick up a spinoff. Show creators had a lot of corrections to make to the series before it could...

It's been eight years since "How I Met Your Mother" ended, and now the spinoff series, "How I Met Your Father," has finally arrived on Hulu. The original "Himym" ran for nearly a decade, so naturally, we're all wondering if the new series will get a long run, too. Well, fans who already find themselves entirely invested in "How I Met Your Father," we've got some good news for you!
Like most streaming platforms, Hulu historically takes a little while to decide whether or not to renew its shows. For instance, look at one of its recent hits, "The Great," which has had about two months between each of its seasons airing and the show's renewal. Since "How I Met Your Father" has a 10-episode first season, with episodes airing weekly instead of all at once, fans assumed they wouldn't know the show's fate until at least a month after season one ends in mid-March.

Chris Lowell is set to star opposite Hilary Duff on Hulu’s “How I Met Your Mother” spinoff series, “How I Met Your Father,” TheWrap has learned.
Here’s the official description for the show, which received a straight-to-series order at the streaming service: In the near future, Sophie (Hilary Duff) is telling her son the story of how she met his father: a story that catapults us back to the year 2021 where Sophie and her close-knit group of friends are in the midst of figuring out who they are, what they want out of life, and how to fall in love in the age of dating apps and limitless options.
Lowell will play Jesse, who is described as “smart, a bit of an edge and cynical about love. He’s an aspiring musician who works as an Uber driver to make ends meet and lives with his best friend Tom.

Years have passed, but the How I Met Your Mother series finale (How I Met Your Mother Season 9 Episode 23 and How I Met Your Mother Season 9 Episode 24) remains terrible.
Those episodes committed many unforgivable TV sins.
It rendered the entire series pointless.
It killed the rewatch value because even random episodes could remind you of the finale and how it undermined the series as a whole.
And there are many, many other problems people have pointed out and discussed since the fateful broadcast.
Around the time How I Met Your Mother was airing its final season, a spin-off, How I Met Your Dad, was in the works.
When the news broke, networks passed on the spin-off not long after the How I Met Your Mother series finale aired. It seemed like karma.
And the end of a "How I Met Your --" franchise.
Of course, in TV land, no idea stays dead.

Throughout the course of How I Met Your Mother, Robin Scherbatsky was teased as the possible love interest for protagonist Ted Mosby. When Robin first met the group, she was laser-focused on her career, leaving no time for romance. However, during the series, Robin varied in her openness to a serious romantic relationship from season to season.

How I Met Your Father promises to be an updated take on the format of the original hit, and with Hilary Duff in the lead and a whole new set of stories to tell, it could well end up being significantly better than the original. How I Met Your Mother may have been hugely popular, but it ended with a controversial finale, and it isn't aging well, either, so this new 'spin-off' has the opportunity to learn from its predecessor's mistakes.

Ah, a second chance at love—and a spinoff. For How I Met Your Mother fans, it seems the journey for millennial hopeless romantics hasn't ended just quite yet. On Apr. 21, Hilary Duff confirmed that she will be producing and starring in a Himym sequel for Hulu. Duff's character Sophie—already billed as a female version of lovably neurotic Ted Mosby (Josh Radnor)—tells her son the story of how she met his dad. The series, aptly named How I Met Your Father, is expected to "catapult us back to the year 2021 where Sophie and her close-knit group of friends are in the midst of figuring out who they are, what they want out of life, and how to fall in love in the age of...

It's taken a while but the How I Met Your Father TV series is finally being produced. Hulu has given the project a straight-to-series order and it will star Hilary Duff. The show comes from Isaac Aptaker and Elizabeth Berger.
How I Met Your Mother creators Craig Thomas & Carter Bays and Emily Spivey wrote a pilot for CBS back in 2014 but the project wasn't picked up. More than two years later, Aptaker and Berger took a try at it but the pair became unavailable when they were hired as This Is Us' showrunners. Alison Bennett wrote another version but it didn't make the cut either. Now, Hulu has revived the project with Aptaker and Berger as creators, writers, and executive producers. Bays and Thomas will also executive produce and Adam Londy will see as co-executive producer.

At first, it admittedly seems like a bad late April Fool’s prank. Alas, it is not.
Per Deadline, Hulu today announced that it had commissioned a full-season, 10-episode order for a sequel to the hit CBS comedy How I Met Your Mother. To switch things up a bit, this iteration will be called How I Met Your Father and will star Hilary Duff (Lizzie McGuire) as Sophie, a woman in the future who is telling her son the story of how she met his father.
The new series comes from This Is Us showrunners and Love, Victor creators Isaac Aptaker and Elizabeth Berger. Himym creators Carter Bays and Craig Thomas are onboard as producers, as is Duff in addition to holding down the starring role.

How I Met Your Father, a spinoff to long-running CBS comedy How I Met Your Mother, is finally set to make it to air.
Hulu has given the project, which will star Hilary Duff, a straight-to-series order from creators Isaac Aptaker and Elizabeth Berger.
It is a long road to air for the project. Back in 2014, Himym creators Craig Thomas & Carter Bays and Emily Spivey wrote a pilot for CBS that starred Greta Gerwig and Drew Tarver, but it wasn’t picked up.
Two and a half years later, Aptaker and Berger created a new take, but after the pair were elevated to co-showrunners of NBC’s This Is Us they were no longer available. Studio 20th Television tried again in the 2017-18 development season with You’re the Worst writer Alison Bennett, but again it did not move forward.
Enter Hulu.

Meg Ryan will executive produce and “potentially” star in a comedy project for NBC, “The Obsolescents,” from Lorne Michaels.
The comedy takes place in a New Jersey suburb where the facade of peace and civility is disrupted by the shocking death of a longtime Township Council member. If Ryan were to come aboard as the star for the comedy, it would mark the first regular TV role for the “Sleepless in Seattle” and “You’ve Got Mail” star in decades.
She was attached to narrate CBS’ ill-fated “How I Met Your Mother” spinoff, “How I Met Your Dad,” which never got past the pilot stage.

Our Fox sources tell us Allen's show -- which was controversially canceled last year -- is now under serious consideration for a reboot. There were rumors the show was canceled because of Allen's personal conservative affiliations -- he compared being a conservative in Hollywood to 1930's Nazi Germany, as well as the conservative character he portrayed on the show.

20th Century Fox Television has been working on a How I Met Your Mother spinoff since 2013 when they were able to get How I Met Your Dad starring Greta Gerwig all the way to the pilot stage before CBS passed on it. However, rather than cut their losses, Fox kept trying, which makes sense when you consider that How I Met Your Mother was a hit show that has had a healthy life in syndication. Using that storytelling device plus that brand could potentially yield a new hit sitcom if all the pieces fall into place. The original writers …...
