Vince McMahon could have owned both WWE and UFC only if he had listened to his son for once. The former owners of UFC the Semaphore Entertainment Group (Seg) wanted to sell the promotion and the first man they approached was Shane McMahon.
UFC in the 2000s was not as big as it is today. Many countries banned the bloodsport, and TV networks were not interested in the promotion. This felt like an opportunity for Shane McMahon to buy and build the company from scratch, but his father had some other plans.

When the idea was brought to the senior McMahon he immediately waved it off as he did with most of the ideas his son came up with. According to Vince UFC was a sport and they were in show business.

Year 2024 has officially come to a close, which means it’s time to recap some of the best documentaries, and there were a lot.
From the top of the year all the way down to December, the documentary did not disappoint. The world was taken aback after Investigation Discovery released its highly-anticipated four-part docuseries “Quiet on Set: The Dark Side of Kids of TV,” which details the numerous workplace abuse allegations involving several Nickelodeon shows and former Nick writer-producer Dan Schneider. Plus, we got an inside look at the making of “We Are the World” with Netflix’s “The Greatest Night in Pop,” and we visited wildlife matriarchies across the globe in Disney’s “Queens.”
Check out our list of the top 10 best documentaries from this year.

Despite fan excitement, Netflix decided to cancel its Hulk Hogan biopic. While very little explanation was offered at the time, the former WWE superstar recently opened up about why the project was dropped.
According to Hogan, a few missed deadlines caused the contract to fall through. "They kind of missed a beat in the contract. There was a payment that wasn't placed at the right time," he told the Pbd Podcast before praising the writing team. "The script was amazing. Scott Silver, who wrote the script for Joker, Wolf of Wall Street, [and] a bunch of other movies, said, 'This is the best thing I've ever written.' When I read it, I'm like, 'Oh my god, this is really good.' At the time, I was in a space where I told him the positive stuff about wrestling."

Somewhere between Hulkamania running wild through the early years of Wrestlemania and Stone Cold Steve Austin leading the Attitude Era to unseen heights, WWE's New Generation sits in something of a pro wrestling limbo. Sneered at from outside sources and even disparaged by the company themselves when recounting the history of the Monday Night Wars, it's important to remember that it wasn't all The Goon and King Mable. Some of the greatest wrestlers of the 90s put on underappreciated classics throughout this era, matches that defy the much-maligned era's stained reputation.
As you would expect, this list is dominated by Bret Hart and Shawn Michaels, but that is bound to happen when you have two of the greatest in-ring performers of all time, both putting on classics with everyone they worked with, while working in their prime. What is a little more surprising is some of the all-star matches...

The why behind Simran Bhogal's Sweet Bobby Catfishing scheme is almost as shocking as what.
Sweet Bobby: My Catfishing Nightmare joins hits like The Menendez Brothers and Mr. McMahon as yet another mind-bending true-to-life documentary story that has fans talking.
Sweet Bobby follows the shocking true story of radio presenter Kirat Assi who was catfished (the act of someone impersonating another online) by her cousin for over a decade, where she was convinced to have found love in the form of an online suitor named Bobbi.

Netflix’s Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story led Nielsen’s streaming charts for a second straight week — and grew substantially from its debut.
The Ryan Murphy-produced series was the top title for the week of Sept. 23-29 with just under 2.4 billion minutes of viewing time. That’s a 40 percent improvement on the drama’s opening week (it premiered Sept. 19), which had 1.72 billion minutes of watch time, and the highest total for any streaming series in Nielsen’s rankings since Bridgerton hit 2.47 billion minutes in June.
Two other Netflix series had strong opening weeks: Rom-com Nobody Wants This premiered to 1.04 billion minutes of viewing, and the docuseries Mr. McMahon, about World Wrestling Entertainment impresario Vince McMahon, had 908 million minutes.

There’s a particular hold Kathy Bates has on audiences, no matter the role. Matlock is proving to be no different. The actress continues to deliver one memorable episode after another.
It’s wild to think this was only the third episode. Is it me, or does it feel like the series has been around for much longer? That has to be the power of Kathy Bates’ acting.
Even though we are only three episodes into Matlock, Bates’ presence elevates the series to “must-watch” status. It seems to be having an effect on her fellow cast members as well.
(Sonja Flemming/CBS)
I swear everyone on this show is acting their butts off. I don’t blame them either. Working with an icon and legend like Kathy Bates must be intimidating as hell.

With Beyond: UFOs and The Unknown, MGM+ wants you to open your mind to possibilities you may never have considered.
If you are already a passenger on the train of the unknown, Beyond: UFOs and The Unknown is must-see TV.
Through four episodes, you’ll be taken on a journey that challenges everything you believe you know with possibilities beyond our current understanding.

In this clip exclusive to TV Fanatic Tim Gallaudet, an American oceanographer and retired Rear Admiral in the United States Navy, shares his thoughts on the now infamous “go fast” video, which shows something many believe is not of this world.
The issue was met with much urgency, as it jeopardized pilots’ safety of flight.
Due to the possible implications of pilots needing to mitigate the unknown on their own, after reading the report, Gallaudet sent an email to every subordinate commander, bringing the issue to light.

Ah-hoo, werewolves of Los Angeles!
It’s Halloween on 9-1-1 Season 8 Episode 5, and with it comes frights, scares, and decorations gone wild?
A lot is happening in the festive installment, which sees a busy night for the 118 when the sun goes down, and the streets get busy, as you’ll see in this sneak peek exclusive to TV Fanatic!
(Disney/Mike Taing)
Halloween must be a very hectic evening for first responders just due to the sheer number of people out and about. With that many people out at night, there’s bound to be some accidents.
The 118 are all on duty, and they’re busy. The same can be said for Maddie, who’s dealing with all kinds of calls, and Athena, who engages in an interesting traffic stop.
Halloween may be a kid’s holiday, but that doesn’t mean adults can’t join in on the fun.

After a shaky start and a sprinkling of red herrings, Frasier Season 2 Episode 7 tied up its deceptively loose ends to become a memorable party episode.
Olivia’s sister Monica may have visited for the annual Harvard-Yale game, but her actual favorite sport was one-upping her younger sibling.
I hoped the episode’s focus on Olivia would give her some much-needed character development. While that didn’t exactly happen, her nimble participation in this festive farce was reward enough for now.
(Chris Haston/Paramount+)
Alan and Freddy did the heavy lifting of setting the episode’s events into motion, which freed Frasier to do what he does best in these situations: facilitate and react.
Meanwhile, Yvette Nicole Brown needed a toothpick for all the scenery she chewed, but it sure was fun to watch her turn the character of Monica up to eleven.

We have a new Intelligence member, and she’s the perfect fit!
Keeping up with the darker tone Chicago Pd has taken over recent years, Chicago Pd Season 12 Episode 5 was a perfectly creepy, dark, and atmospheric hour that coincided with a Halloween theme without playing it straightforwardly.
The Torres-centric not only put the former rookie of the unit at the center, but it allowed him to partner up with the endearing and impressive Kiana Cook and essentially pass the torch by the episode’s end.
(Elizabeth Sisson/NBC)
One thing is for sure: Chicago Pd Season 12 hasn’t missed with its collection of fantastically written and executed episodes that have propelled the season so far.
No, it hasn’t been perfect all around. Still, every installment has provided that perfect balance of character insight and development, along with action-oriented cases that have left us on the edge of our seats.

Miracles happen, and 20 years after The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement premiered, Disney ordered Princess Diaries 3.
Anne Hathaway announced the project in early October, saying she would return to Genova.
I was a diehard fan of the original 2001 film and its 2004 sequel, which launched Anne Hathaway’s acting career.
(Disney Plus/ Screenshot)
Typically, I dislike reboots and revivals that occur years later.
Still, this one has the potential to be nostalgic for long-time fans and inspire a new generation to appreciate Anne Hathaway and Julie Andrews’ talents.
The original film featured Hathaway’s Mia Thermopolis, who learns she’s the heir apparent to the Genovian throne. She learned how to become a princess, and Andrews’ Queen Clarisse learned how to become a loving grandmother and a regal queen.
The Princess Diaries navigated Mia’s awkward teen years with the help of her grandmother, her driver Joseph, and her friends Lily and Michael Moscovitz.

Very few series attempt to capture the multilayers of trauma and survival.
Much to our delight, Found is leading the pack with Found Season 2 expounds on what the first season established in captivating and frustrating ways.
But most importantly, the series and this season have been conversation starters, and so much of that rests upon Gabi Mosely’s complexities.
(Matt Miller/NBC) Multifaced and Flawed Female Characters (Especially of Color) Are a Rarity
Despite television leaning toward dark stories and characters, arrives rarely allow female series leads to be complex, imperfect beings, and even less so for women of color.
When Scandal and How to Get Away with Murder concluded, a golden era of powerful, imperfect female characters (particularly Woc) ended, too.
Gabi Mosely carrying the baton Oliva Pope and Annalise Keating left behind is one of many reasons that Found continues to be one of the most thrilling, compelling series currently airing.

Apparently everybody wants “Nobody Wants This.” The Kristen Bell/Adam Brody comedy from creator Erin Foster has knocked out “Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story” to become the No. 1 English TV program on Netflix for the week of Sept. 13, with 15.9 million views in its second week. “Monsters” continues to be a monster, however, as its 13.1 million views was still good enough to slide into the No. 2 slot.
“Nobody Wants This” debuted last week at No. 2 with 10.3 million views in its first four days of streaming. For “Monsters,” the show continues to dominate the Netflix chart, having spent the previous two weeks at No. 1 (including 19.5 million views last week).
Debuting at No. 3 on the English chart was Season 7 of “Love Is Blind,” coming in with 5.2 million views, while the Season 3 return of coming-of-age drama “Heartstopper” clocked in at No. 4 with 4.5 million views.

Audiences can’t get enough of Adam Brody and Kristen Bell in Netflix’s Nobody Wants This.
In its first full week on the streamer, the 10-episode romcom rose to 15.9M views, making it No. 1 in TV and the most-watched English language title of the week. It couldn’t beat The Platform 2, a Spanish thriller, which generated 19.4M views and topped the Non-English film list.
Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story fell to second place during this interval, still tallying 13.1M views, while Love is Blind Season 7 launched with 5.2M views.
Heartstopper also returned to the list with Season 3 amassing 4.5M views, which was good enough for fourth place. The Perfect Couple is also still holding onto a spot at No. 5 with 3.8M views. Meanwhile, Season 4 of Emily in Paris is losing steam, coming in at No. 9 with 2.6M views.
Things were a bit slow on the English films list.

“Nobody Wants This” debuted at No. 1 on Luminate’s weekly rankings of streaming original viewership, tying last week’s top title — “Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story” — each with a strong 1.7 billion minutes.
A rom-com series starring Kristen Bell and Adam Brody, “Nobody Wants This” achieved that total in its first full week of availability on Netflix, while “Monsters” was in its second full week, having debuted at No. 1 with 2.7 billion minutes watched during the Sept. 20-26 viewing window.

Don’t let anyone say crime doesn’t pay, because it’s clearly enough to drive a program to the top of the streaming chart on the Samba TV Weekly Wrap Report. “The Penguin,” the Max gangster series about DC Comics’ bird-like crime boss (and famous Batman nemesis), remains at No. 1 for the second consecutive week.
It’s followed by a show about horrific real-world crime, “Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story.” This Netflix series uses actors to tell the infamous story of the Menendez brothers, who were convicted of murdering their parents. It is the second season of Ryan Murphy’s “Monster” series, which focused on serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer in its first season.
Crime may pay when it comes to viewership, but a little anxiety doesn’t hurt either. “Inside Out 2,” the highest-grossing movie of 2024, comes in third this week after it was added to Disney+ on Sept.

The recently released Netflix documentary series Mr. McMahon chronicles the life and career of its titular subject. However, producer Matt Maxson says the content changed dramatically after Janel Grant filed a lawsuit against the former WWE Chairman.
Grant filed a sexual abuse and misconduct lawsuit against McMahon in Jan. 2024, after anonymously making the claims in 2022. Speaking on Kevin Iole's YouTube channel, Maxson explained how the suit changed the documentary. "I got a call in June or July of 2021. I came onto a project that had been going on since 2018. It had, at that point, two acts already," he said. "Filming didn't really begin until 2021. I was getting instilled pretty early on. We were taking something that, at the time, really didn't have an ending."

The Netflix docuseries Mr. McMahon is filled with shocking moments from the history of Vince McMahon, creator of World Wrestling Entertainment, and the history of the WWE itself, but one of the most noteworthy involved actor Richard Belzer and wrestler Hulk Hogan. The tell-all six-part documentary involved former WWE wrestlers and business associates providing their perspectives on various events in the history of the entertainment company. Hulk Hogan went into some detail on an incident that happened in front of a live audience in 1985 when Hogan was at the peak of his popularity.
The Mr. McMahon documentary covered the long history of lawsuits against McMahon and other individuals associated with the WWE. While many contained allegations of abuse, one of the lawsuits covered in the docuseries was far less heinous. It occurred early in WWE's history and actually wound up setting some legal precedent as a result of the lawsuit's aftermath.

Netflix's Mr. McMahon documentary blurred the lines between the former WWE Chairman and the villain he played on television. The docuseries tries hard to convince the viewer that Vince was just as tyrannical in real life as he was onscreen. Then again, when the doc has such shocking reveals, as Vince demanding his son Shane to stab him at dinner, it didn't need to try hard to make that impression.
Whether his sins were behind closed doors or in front of the public's eyes, there's plenty to judge Vincent Kennedy McMahon about. As much as the high points of his career made him the billionaire he is today, the low points almost made him lose everything. The following are just a few examples of the more questionable Vince McMahon actions, from TV antics to much more serious things, that continue to leave a bad taste in people's mouths to this day.

Netflix's Mr. McMahon covers 40+ years of Vince McMahon's control of World Wrestling Entertainment, but the 6-hour docuseries glosses over some details and leaves key people and events out of WWE's story. In 2024, Vince McMahon stepped down as the Chairman of WWE in the wake of the federal investigation into charges of sexual abuse and trafficking of female WWE employees. McMahon and several WWE stars participated in the Mr. McMahon documentary, but Vince did not complete his interviews after charges were filed against him.

Netflix released a six-part docuseries on WWE co-founder Vince McMahon this week. The series tracks his life and role within the wrestling promotion, including his successes, failures and scandals — including the lawsuit he currently faces alleging sexual harassment, abuse and trafficking.
The series has been in the works since 2019 and was close to completion in 2022, but it had to pivot and expand when the Wall Street Journal reported that McMahon had paid out $12 million in settlements to four women. That led to two more episodes being added to what had been planned as a four-part series.
McMahon and his longtime ally Ari Emanuel of Endeavor attempted to purchase the documentary after getting worried about some of the footage, Puck’s Matt Belloni reported this week, but Netflix declined to sell them the project. Warning: Spoilers for Mr. McMahon, episode 1, "Junior"The Mr. McMahon documentary sheds some light on the oft-forgotten impact of the former WWE Chairman's late father's contributions to the wrestling business. His shocking scandals aside, Vince McMahon is still considered a pioneer of the wrestling business based on how he morphed the business into sports entertainment, changing how audiences view the art of professional wrestling. However, there's at least one overlooked pioneer before him.
Episode one of Netflix's Mr. McMahon docuseries - titled "Junior" - puts a spotlight on Vincent McMahon Sr., the man who ran WWE's operations before Vincent Kennedy McMahon Jr. For all the praise and credit that Vince McMahon receives for what he's done for WWE and how he changed the wrestling business as a whole, people can't forget that the chicken always comes before the egg. The documentary takes the time to ensure that viewers understand who Vince Sr.

McMahon has quite literally devoted his entire life in order to promote the show. But this journey of his wasn’t without its own set of controversies. These contentions were the major reason why he stepped down from WWE’s CEO and chairman position.

Netflix’s docuseries “Mr. McMahon” “only scratches the surface” of former WWE CEO Vince McMahon’s terrible behavior, the lawyer for a woman who claims to have been sexually assaulted and trafficked by him said in a statement to TheWrap.
“The ‘Mr. McMahon’ docuseries makes it clear there is no difference between Vince McMahon’s on-air persona and his true self, they are one and the same. His ‘character’ – known for violent outbursts, sexual deviance, and manipulation – is the real Vince McMahon and exactly what Janel Grant experienced behind closed doors at WWE for years,” Ann Callis, who represents former WWE employee Janel Grant, said Wednesday.
“While the docuseries put McMahon’s obsession with power and control on full display, it only scratches the surface of his criminal behavior and it fails to tell the full story of his abuse, sexual assault and human trafficking of Ms. Grant,” Callis continued.

Netflix’s new documentary series, Mr. McMahon, has clearly been a long time in the making, so its content and purpose seem to slightly shift over its six episodes. At present, the very name of Vince McMahon obviously brings to mind innumerable allegations of sexual misconduct against the man who built WWE, but the Netflix series started being shot way before these allegations were made public. Therefore, the work covers McMahon’s eccentric and brilliant ways of promoting his business for the most part and can only mention the misconduct allegations in the last episode. Mr. McMahon is a good watch for those who have followed WWE for a long time, as it gives an overview of the entire entertainment show that has often been confused for a sport.

Mr. McMahon Review: WWE's Vince McMahon Pile-Drives Himself But Shocking Series Needed To Go Further
When it starts, Mr. McMahon is a perverse love story to WWE founder Vince McMahon, one of the most controversial figures in entertainment. Quickly, the story changes, as allegations of sexual misconduct, offering a stark realization of the mini series' apparent agenda to show the real Vince McMahon. That was always going to be a difficult prospect, and McMahon's early refusal to tell "the real stories" to guard himself doesn't exactly set that agenda up well.
To understand Vince McMahon, and to understand the difficulties of Mr. McMahon as an extension, you have to understand that wrestling requires "marks", the industry equivalent to "rubes" in the language of carnival workers. McMahon's empire was built on the art of the con, selling the deception and the magic of professional wrestling to "marks" who would fall for the heavily monetized ruse. Mr. McMahon's promise was always to peel back the layers, but...

The controversial kingpin of WWE is the subject of a new Netflix documentary series called Mr. McMahon. From director Chris Smith (Tiger King) and fellow EP Bill Simmons, the project delves into Vince McMahon’s rise and fall as he brought pro wrestling into the zeitgeist. Despite helping put sports entertainment on the map, the former chairman’s legacy has been shrouded in scandal amid sexual misconduct and trafficking allegations. A Wall Street Journal report from 2022 that the chief executive paid more than $12 million to four women to cover up allegations of sexual misconduct and infidelity sent shockwaves. The dominos continued to fall with McMahon ultimately resigning. In January, former WWE employee Janel Grant filed a lawsuit accusing McMahon of trafficking, abuse, and sexual assault. There is also an ongoing Department of Justice investigation into the allegations. Prior to his resignation, McMahon sat down for interviews that peeled back the curtain and gave rare access.

Directed by Chris Smith, the six-part film examines McMahon’s journey from wrestling promoter to billion-dollar businessman. Through over 100 hours of interviews, it traces his early life all the way up to the present allegations that changed everything. We hear from wrestlers both friendly and fierce, plus journalists who’ve watched McMahon’s career from the outside.
Mr. McMahon aims to give viewers a well-rounded picture. It handles the action both inside and outside the ring, exploring how McMahon pushed boundaries and sometimes crossed major lines. The story covers triumphs like Hulkamania rising and dark days like the steroid scandal that rocked the industry.

There’s a bit of irony that Vince McMahon — as his character Mr. McMahon — got off on telling people, “You’re firrrred!” and his essentially forced exit from the WWE, which he had founded more than 40 years ago. And the timing couldn’t have been worse, as the six-part documentary Mr. McMahon was intended to go one way but ended up submitting to another: that is, the even darker side of the wrestling icon. And now Vince McMahon is taking aim at the doc, saying it’s an unfair depiction.
Vince McMahon took to social media this week – just a few days ahead of Mr. McMahon’s September 25th debut on Netflix – to dispute the content and reputability of it, saying he saw an early cut that had worked in the new revelations about his life. “I don’t regret participating in this Netflix documentary. Vince McMahon, who founded World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE), has publicly voiced concerns about a new Netflix documentary focused on his life and career. In the six-part series “Mr. McMahon,” directors interview McMahon extensively about transforming WWE into a global company. However, McMahon believes the film takes his words out of context to distort viewers’ perceptions.
The series, directed by Chris Smith, includes over 200 hours of interviews with McMahon conducted before his resignation from WWE earlier this year. It explores McMahon’s story from regional wrestling promoter to mainstream entertainment mogul. But in a social media statement, McMahon said an early cut he saw uses “editing tricks” that conflate his on-air character with his real self.
This January, a former employee named Janel Grant sued McMahon, accusing him of sexual assault and trafficking. Grant alleged McMahon forced a sexual relationship to keep her job and shared private photos of her.

The squared circle is a hallowed, holy land where miracles happen right before our very eyes. An art form not only in the displays of physical agility, strength, and charismatic acting, but also in a specific brand of live theater that can make even the most fantastical situations feel real. No matter how much a person knows "wrestling is fake," a good match can make even the strongest non-believer forget the predetermined outcome, and give themselves over to the scripted dance of grappling and glory. It's also home to some carny-ass jabronis who would be fun to laugh at if they weren't so vile and dangerous.
Vincent Kennedy McMahon did not invent the culture of professional wrestling, but he certainly shaped it in his image like a malevolent God — at least, the image he has chosen for the world at large. "The person he puts out there, the larger-than-life promoter,...

Updated with additional Janel Grant response: Former WWE boss Vince McMahon is not happy with the upcoming Netflix docuseries Mr. McMahon.
In a statement posted on X, McMahon admits he doesn’t regret participating in the docuseries, but says “A lot has been misrepresented or left out entirely in an effort to leave viewers intentionally confused.”
Directed and executive produced by Chris Smith (Tiger King), the six-episode docuseries chronicles the rise and fall of McMahon.
Here is McMahon’s statement in full:
“I don’t regret participating in this Netflix documentary. The producers had an opportunity to tell an objective story about my life and the incredible business I built, which were equally filled with excitement, drama, fun, and a fair amount of controversy and life lessons. Unfortunately, based on an early partial cut I’ve seen, this doc falls short and takes the predictable path of conflating the ‘Mr.
