The original script for the pilot was first written in 2012 as a college semester-project for showrunner, Robert Rivera Jr. He got an A-. The script was finally rewritten in 2019 with about half of the original story remaining. New characters in the revised script include Andres, David, Fernando, Michael, Quinn, Carly, Anna, and Pastor Cruz. Additionally, Kenny's name was originally Derek and Daniel's name was Edward. Lorena's last name was Alana (who eventually became her sister) and Zachary and Brendan's last name was Daniels (who eventually became Daniel).
