“Zero Day” jumped to the top of Netflix’s most-watched TV list in its second week on the streamer.

The Robert De Niro-led political thriller series sat atop the Top 10 English TV list during the week of Feb. 24 with 17.9 million views. Despite a slight decline in its viewership from its debut week — during which “Zero Day” logged 19.1 million views — the show climbed up the list from its No. 2 position last week, when it failed to surpass viewership for “American Murder: Gabby Petito.”

The franchise, which debuted in 2010, has since seen Gru's Minions branch out with their own films. With movies in the original series and two Minion-led spinoffs, the franchise has been a major hit, passing the four Shrek films and its two Puss in Boots spinoffs at the box office. Paramount animation Transformers One dethroned Joker: Folie À Deux at this weekend’s UK-Ireland box office, as the Warner Bros blockbuster suffered a significant 75% drop.

Transformers One opened to £1.6m in 583 sites at a £2,744 average – down on the stellar £8.7m of 2007’s Transformers and £8.3m of 2009’s Transformers: Revenge Of The Fallen, but still a decent opening for an animated feature.

Despicable Me 4 now has a streaming release date after dominating in theaters this summer. Directed by Chris Renaud, the fourth installment in the popular Despicable Me franchise follows Gru (Steve Carell) as he faces off against new rival Maxime Le Mal (Will Ferrell) while also dealing with the arrival of the baby Gru Jr. Reviews for Despicable Me 4 were mixed from critics, but the film, which also features voice acting from Kristen Wiig, Sofa Vergara, and Joey King, was a box office success, grossing over $953 million worldwide.

ComicBook.com now reveals that Despicable Me 4 will start streaming on Peacock on October 31, meaning audiences still have about a month to wait. This streaming release date comes nearly two months after the film first became available on VOD. The film will be joining both Despicable Me (2010) and Despicable Me 2 (2013) on Peacock, with Despicable Me 3 (2017) streaming instead on Fubo.

It's no secret that Netflix is the most popular streaming service in the world, and it seems like having good movies on a rival service isn't enough to move the needle sometimes. Take NBCUniversal's Peacock streaming service as an example. Their animated lineup is nothing to scoff at, with The Super Mario Bros. and Minions both coming out in recent years and dominating the streaming charts. While that's good news, there's one key issue. These movies are all now dominating the charts on Netflix instead.

Looking at the top 10 animated movies of the year on Netflix, the top six movies are all from NBCUniversal. This list includes, in order, The Super Mario Bros. Movie, Minions, The Boss Baby, Despicable Me 3, Woody Woodpecker Goes to Camp, and Shrek. The only Netflix original film to crack the top 10 is Leo. NBCUniversal’s streaming service Peacock had a big July and a massive August thanks almost exclusively to the 2024 Paris Summer Olympics. Netflix had an equally massive January-to-June, in part because of all NBCUniversal’s animated movies available on the streamer.

In case you’ve been living under a mountain of other Microsoft Excel spreadsheets, on Thursday, September 19, Netflix shared more than 16,000 lines of its viewership data from the first half of 2024. It lists every show or movie watched on Netflix around the globe, how many views each had, and for how many hours they were watched. Light reading material for us.

Twice a year, there are endless takeaways from Netflix’s data dump. One of the big ones from this set was just how dominant NBCUniversal’s animated films are — only not on NBCUniversal’s own streaming platform, Peacock.

Following his stint in the DC Extended Universe, Zack Snyder refocused his efforts on his collaboration with Netflix. Rebel Moon was one of the projects he focused on, both released on the streaming platform in December 2023 and April 2024.

The epic space opera Rebel Moon, which contains two chapters, Part One: A Child of Fire, and its sequel, Part Two: The Scargiver, received poor reviews from both critics and the audience. However, as Netflix just released its latest Engagement Report called What We Watched, covering months between January and June 2024, Rebel Moon proved to be a good addition to the platform. While neither title entered the Top 10 in the aforementioned months, both films drew strong viewership numbers, despite the negative reception.

Netflix unveiled the first big data dump of 2024 on Thursday, and the engagement report for everything watched in the first half of the year proved that subscribers really love three things: Millie Bobby Brown, sharks and animated movies.

Some of the data points were unsurprising – we knew Brown’s “Damsel” was a huge hit, and indeed it was the most-watched film for the first half of the year. But others were interesting, like just how heavily Netflix’s streaming partnership with Universal factors into what’s being watched and the relative success of Zack Snyder’s “Rebel Moon” films.

Universal animation Despicable Me 4 rose back to the top of the UK-Ireland box office chart on its eighth weekend in cinemas, boosted by National Cinema Day on Saturday, August 31.

Despicable Me 4 fell a slim 12% across the weekend, with its Saturday takings up 23% compared to the previous Saturday.

Since the release of Despicable Me, Gru's (Steve Carell) cute yet mischievous 'Minions' (voiced by Pierre Coffin) have become a household staple worldwide. Due to the popularity of the characters, it wasn't long until the Minions got their own movie titled Minions in 2015, introducing three fan-favorites; Kevin, Stuart and Bob. Each has different personality traits, making them adored by viewers, from Kevin's serious, protective nature, to Stuart's laid back, cool demeanor, and Bob's cute, innocent naivety. The excessive popularity surrounding the characters paints the question of their whereabouts in the latest installment of the franchise, Despicable Me 4.

Although audience members are upset by the apparent absence of the characters, there are many reasons that explain their lack of screen time in Despicable Me 4. Despicable Me 4 is now available on Digital HD and to mark the occasion, we were able to catch up with director Chris Renaud to talk about the latest blockbuster entry in Illumination's fan-favorite animated franchise.

The fourth installment sees Gru square off against a new nemesis named Maxime Le Mal, and in our extensive conversation, we talk about the reunion of former Anchorman co-stars Steve Carell and Will Ferrell, as well as a number of other things including the introduction of the Mega Minions, the franchise's lasting power, the possibility of aging up characters, and a whole lot more.

Because of its current dominance in the world of kiddie entertainment, it may take a moment's reflection to recall that Chris Renaud's and Pierre Coffin's 2010 animated film "Despicable Me" once felt the slightest bit subversive. The main character of "Despicable Me" was the Eastern European supervillain Gru (Steve Carell) who aimed to commit visible acts of spiteful villainy. His latest plan was to steal the moon out of the sky, merely for the infamy it would garner him. 

"Despicable Me" takes place in a world that's overrun by villains, thieves, and superpowered monster people, but is seemingly absent of heroes. It won't be until later sequels that a crime-fighting Mi-6-type organization would come into play. Later still, Gru would renounce his villainy and become a dippy suburban dad to a trio of precocious girls. In "Despicable Me 4," Gru also has a wife and an infant son.

The animated film “Despicable Me 4” is staying popular with moviegoers across the globe. Now in its seventh week in theaters, it has brought in $847 million worldwide. $340 million of that came from United States and Canada audiences, with the other $506 million from international markets.

This performance puts “Despicable Me 4” among only three movies released in 2024 to make over $500 million overseas. The others are “Inside Out 2” and “Deadpool & Wolverine.” Experts predict the movie will soon pass $850 million globally and may even reach $900 million.

The movie had initial struggles against the Pixar film “Inside Out 2” when both came out. However, it regained momentum thanks to the long-time appeal of its fun characters and humor. Audiences of all ages have enjoyed watching the misadventures of villain-turned-hero Gru and his family of minions.

Sony’s It Ends With Us, starring Blake Lively, wooed audiences at this weekend’s UK-Ireland box office with a huge £4.5m, taking top spot and ending the two-week run in first of Deadpool & Wolverine.

The romantic drama based on Colleen Hoover’s novel of the same name took an excellent £7,087 location average from 630 sites.

The U.K. and Ireland box office hit £103.3 million ($132.5 million) in July, marking the strongest monthly performance since December 2023, according to numbers from Comscore.

Despite this uptick, the year-to-date total remains 14% behind 2023’s figures, largely due to the absence of a “Barbenheimer”-level phenomenon this summer.

Universal’s “Despicable Me 4” led the pack with £28.2 million after three weeks. The animated sequel has already surpassed the lifetime gross of the original “Despicable Me” (£20.2 million) and is tracking 4% ahead of “Despicable Me 3” at the same point. It currently stands as the third-biggest release of 2024, behind only “Inside Out 2” and “Dune: Part II.”

“Deadpool & Wolverine” landed at No. 2 with £25.3 million in just eight days. The Marvel entry from Disney scored the year’s highest three-day opening at £12.6 million and set a new record for 15-rated releases. Among superhero titles, only six films have opened higher in the territory.

Sunday Update: Marvel/Disney’s Deadpool & Wolverine has shredded expectations, opening to $438.3M worldwide. The international box office portion is $233.3M with domestic at $205M.

As Anthony has reported, this is the biggest R-rated opening of all time domestically; it’s also tops globally, surpassing Deadpool ($264M in like-for-like markets excluding China at current rates), as well as internationally, overtaking Joker ($147M) on a like-for-like basis at current rates. Further, this is the biggest worldwide and international opening of the year, and tops since Avatar: The Way of Water in 2022.

The MCU has now surpassed $30B worldwide ($30.3B).

Overseas, where all markets opened, BFFs Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman front the No. 1 non-local movie everywhere. The start (excluding China where the previous films did not release) is 56% ahead of Deadpool and 50% above Deadpool 2. D&w is also 37% ahead of Joker.

Tras seis semanas en cartelera, “Del Revés 2” ha logrado superar a “Frozen 2” y se ha convertido en la película de animación más taquillera de la historia. La secuela de la aclamada película de Pixar ha recaudado cerca de 1.500 millones de dólares a nivel mundial, alcanzando una impresionante cifra de 1.460 millones de dólares.
