Bhaggyolokkhi is very different from all other contemporary Bengali films in a way that leaves a lingering effect on the mind of the viewer. The story is unconventional, of the type rarely seen in Bengali cinema. There are indeed loopholes in the screenplay, and characters that were not completely developed by the writer, but that does not prevent the film from becoming an amusing experience.
The lead actors, Ritwick Chakraborty and Solanki Roy, have done a splendid job portraying a typical middle-class Bengali couple who face some unexpected events in their otherwise mundane life. The film becomes enjoyable due to the sweet chemistry between the lead characters and the realistic acting by Chakraborty and Roy. A special mention should be of Sujan Mukherjee who has brilliantly enlivened a character which could have been written more thoughtfully. Not given much opportunity to explore his character, Mukherjee tries his best to entice the viewer with his craft, working within the constraints of the flawed script.
A comedy thriller with elements of friendship and love, and a little bit of parody of real life events apparently, Bhaggyolokkhi deserves to be watched. Credit should be given to Bhaumik, the director, for taking this bold step to move Bengali cinema forward, although his writing could have been better.
Lastly but certainly very importantly, Anupam Roy has given us two more beautiful songs to capture the film's theme and enchant all music lovers with his melody. His music was the cherry on the cake.
