Warner Bros. has shared thirteen new character posters from Ryan Coogler's Sinners, offering a fresh new look at the devlish heroes and villains set to feature in the upcoming horror thriller.

While not much is yet known about the plot, save for the fact that Michael B. Jordan will be forced to square off with vampires, including his recently turned twin brother, which should only up the ante as he and a small group of survivors attempt to make it to daybreak.

When asked about his latest film, Coogler teased, “Sinners is a unique one. It’s genre fluid. There are vampires in the film, but it’s really about a lot more than just that. It’s one of many elements, I’ll say. I think we’re going to surprise people with it.”

Last week it was announced that Apple's new sci-fi show Murderbot is premiering much sooner than we expected: May 16, barely three months from now! Titled “The Band,” the official logline of the series states that it “offers an inside look at the music industry centered on Oscar (Stiller), a pop impresario and talent mogul beset by scandal who is tasked with forming a new act in order to save his career – and perhaps his soul.”

The show hails from Sarah-Violet Bliss and Charles Rogers, who also serve as executive producers and showrunners. Stiller and John Lesher executive produce under their Red Hour Films banner, along with Savan Kotecha Michael Ellenberg and Lindsey Springer of Media Res. Media Res will co-produce with HBO.

Veteran Mexican film and theatre actor Emilio Echevarria, best known internationally for his appearances in Babel and Die Another Day, has died.

No details were provided when the death was announced by the Mexican Academy of Cinematographic Arts and Sciences (Amacc).

Echevarria began his acting career in 1978 in the theatre. His early film roles came in the eighties and he became more widely known through playing vagrant El Chivo in Alejandro G Inarritu’s 2000 Oscar-nominted drama Amores Perros. He subsequently had roles in Alfonso Cuaron’s Y Tu Mama Tambien, Inarritu’s Babel, 2002 James Bond outing Die Another Day and 2004 US production The Alamo.

Born Emilio Antonio Echevarría Noriega on July 3, 1944, in Mexico City, Echevarría began his acting career in the late 1970s and he would go on to become a three-time nominee for Mexico’s Ariel Awards.

His breakthrough role came with Amores perros in 2000, followed quickly by Y tu mamá también, the 2002 James Bond film Die Another Day and then, in 2004, John Lee Hancock’s The Alamo. Babel followed in 2006.

“La Máquina” is an ambitious Hulu limited series 15 years in the making, and not just because it’s the platform’s first Spanish-language original.

Born from a concept by frequent collaborators and longtime friends Diego Luna and Gael García Bernal, the show follows an aging Mexican boxer’s journey back to the top of the sport as he juggles familial responsibilities, a kooky manager with a plastic surgery problem and an underlying mystery about the criminal underworld that seems to control his surroundings. Bernal plays boxer Esteban “La Máquina” Osuna, Luna is nearly unrecognizable as manager Andy Pérez.

“Boxing is a great metaphor to explore what success actually means, and how it can become a trap,” Luna told TheWrap about the themes behind the collaboration.

Forget Oasis: there’s a more dynamic reunion in town. Gael García Bernal and Diego Luna, the lifelong friends who first paired up on screen to play oversexed teenagers in Alfonso Cuarón’s 2001 road movie Y Tu Mamá También, are back. Unlike the Gallagher brothers, Bernal and Luna never fell out or became estranged. For 20 years now, they have co-run a documentary film festival and two production companies in their native capital Mexico City. Their acting collaborations, though, have been few and far between, with only the soccer-based Rudo y Cursi and the eccentric Will Ferrell vehicle Casa de mi Padre to their name since Cuarón’s vibrant hit climaxed with them tumbling into bed together.

While Prime Video has one of the most popular shows in the world currently airing its second season with The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, there's another project coming to the platform soon that just debuted its first look. Prime Video officially unveiled the first trailer for Canary Black, the upcoming action thriller starring Kate Beckinsale which will release on October 24. The film will follow Avery Graves (Beckinsale) as she is blackmailed by terrorists into betraying her country to save her kidnapped husband. In addition to Beckinsale in the leading role, Canary Black has also assembled a star-studded cast around her, with Saffrron Burrows, Rupert Friend, Ben Miles, and the late Ray Stevenson, all set to star.

Ontario Creates’ International Financing Forum (Iff) will feature 40 projects from Canadian and international teams bringing new work from Malcolm McDowell, Clement Virgo, and Rafael Kapelinski, director of 2017 Berlin Crystal Bear winner Butterfly Kisses.

The forum, now in its 19th year, runs September 8-9 in Toronto in association with Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF). It brings together jury-selected producers looking to find co-producers and secure financing for upcoming projects.

Canadian projects include The Benefactor starring McDowell from A Clockwork Orange and Mozart In The Jungle in the story of a widower who believes his house is haunted.

Exclusive: CAA has signed veteran writer-producer Kate Gersten for representation, Deadline has learned.

Recently, Gersten made her feature debut with The Last Showgirl, a film whose screenplay she adapted from her original play Body of Work. Directed by Gia Coppola, the film follows a seasoned showgirl who must plan for her future when her show abruptly closes after a 30-year run. As a dancer in her 50s, she struggles with what to do next. As a mother, she strives to repair a strained relationship with her daughter, who often took a backseat to her showgirl family.

Set to premiere at the Toronto Film Festival in September, The Last Showgirl features CAA clients Pamela Anderson, Jamie Lee Curtis, Dave Bautista, Billie Lourd and Brenda Song.

Rachel Sennott’s upcoming HBO comedy pilot has added four cast members, Variety has learned.

Odessa A’zion, Jordan Firstman, Miles Robbins, and True Whitaker (“Godfather of Harlem”) are all set to star in project, which was picked up to pilot at HBO in March. Sennot will also star in the series.

The official logline states, “A codependent friend group reunites, navigating how the time apart, ambition, and new relationships have changed them.”

A’zion has also appeared in multiple episodes of the CBS comedy “Ghosts” as well as shows like “Fam” and features such as 2022’s “Hellraiser.” Firstman recently appeared in the Marvel series “Ms. Marvel” at Disney+. Robbins appeared in multiple episodes of the award-winning Amazon series “Mozart in the Jungle.” Whitaker appeared alongside her father, Academy Award winner Forrest Whitaker, in “Godfather of Harlem.”

Earlier this year, it was revealed that frequent collaborators Ryan Coogler and Michael B. Jordan – who have worked on Fruitvale Station, Creed, Black Panther, and Black Panther: Wakanda Forever together as director and cast member, and have other collaborations that Coogler didn’t direct – have been developing a new project in secret. Coogler has written the script for this project, which is being described as both a genre picture and a period piece that Coogler will be directing and Jordan is attached to star in. The project is set up at Warner Bros., is expected to have a budget of around $90 million, and is scheduled for a theatrical release on March 7, 2025. Exclusive: Lola Kirke (Gone Girl) is the newest addition to the cast of Ryan Coogler’s untitled supernatural thriller for Warner Bros Pictures.

As previously announced, Michael B. Jordan leads the ensemble, which will also feature Jack O’Connell, Delroy Lindo, Omar Benson Miller, Jayme Lawson, Wunmi Mosaku, Hailee Steinfeld and Li Jun Li. Details as to the film’s plot remain under wraps, as does Kirke’s role.

Exclusive: Kelly Marie Tran and Miles Robbins will star in Shal Ngo’s Control Freak, a psychological thriller from WorthenBrooks for Hulu Originals. The feature film has wrapped production and will premiere in early 2025.

Control Freak follows a motivational speaker plagued by an uncontrollable itch on her head, who becomes infected with a parasitic demon from her homeland. Tran stars as “Valerie,” alongside Robbins who plays her husband, “Robbie.”

Additional cast includes Toan Le (The Sympathizer) as Valerie’s father, “Sang” and Kieu Chinh (The Joy Luck Club) as her “Aunt Thuy.”

Prime Video’s “Fallout,” inspired by the video game series, is launching an awards campaign ahead of this year’s Emmys, with the streamer eyeing nominations for outstanding drama series among others. Variety has exclusively learned the Emmy campaign strategies for its main actors: Walton Goggins, Ella Purnell and Aaron Moten.

Goggins, portraying the mutated gunslinger Cooper Howard, aka The Ghoul, and Purnell, playing young Vault Dweller Lucy, are both in the running for lead acting categories. Moten, who plays Maximus, the Brotherhood of Steel’s squire, aims for a supporting actor nod.

Set in an alternate history post-apocalyptic Earth, “Fallout” depicts the lives of survivors in Vaults, designed to preserve humanity following nuclear catastrophe. More than two centuries later, a young woman Lucy emerges from Vault 33 to explore a devastated Los Angeles.

After recurring on season one of Only Murders In the Building, Verson was promoted to a series regular where they portrayed Cinda Canning’s (Tina Fey) assistant Poppy White.

Most recently they were seen on HBO’s And Just Like That… as well as in the critically acclaimed short Troy. Previously they starred on New Amsterdam, Mozart in the Jungle and The Strain.

On stage, Verson starred in A Transparent Musical at Center Theatre Group as Ali Pfefferman, and has appeared on Broadway in Indecent, and off-Broadway in Wives (Playwrights Horizons), Collective Rage: A Play in 5 Betties (McC) and The Lucky Ones (Ars Nova) for which they were nominated for a Lucille Lortel Award.

Zackary Drucker will direct the upcoming biopic about Andy Warhol superstar Candy Darling starring Hari Nef. John Cameron Mitchell also joins the untitled film about the transgender icon as executive producer.

It was previously announced that Nef (“Barbie”) will star in the movie.

The film traces Darling’s childhood in Long Island through her years alongside underground icons Holly Woodlawn and Jackie Curtis in Warhol’s Factory scene, and her influence on musicians including Lou Reed, the Velvet Underground and Patti Smith. She was immortalized in popular songs including Reed’s “Walk on the Wild Side” and The Velvet Underground’s “Candy Says.”

Darling also starred in Warhol’s cult film “Women In Revolt” before she died of leukemia in 1974 at age 29.

“I’ve dedicated my life and career to amplifying the history of trans and queer icons, and their impact in shaping art and culture for everyone,” Drucker said in a statement.
