What buzzy projects are being showcased at Ventana Sur 2023?
Image
Latin America’s biggest audiovisual market runs November 27-December 1.

The 15th edition of Ventana Sur, the biggest audiovisual market in Latin America, is showcasing some of the best completed films, projects and works in progress (WiP) from across the continent from November 27-December 1.

Genre, animation and WiPs form the main axis of the five-day event in Buenos Aires, which is a collaboration between Argentinian film agency Incaa and Cannes’ Marché du Film. Further sections include Maquinitas, which is dedicated to video games, and Remakes, which reimagines older projects with a contemporary sensibility.

Blood Window: Hugo Cardozo, Angeles Hernández Debut New Films as Latin Genre Builds as a Sales Agent’s Go-To Option (Exclusive)
Image
The latest from “The Platform” co-producers Mr Miyagi and rising shock meister Hugo Cardozo will be sneak peeked as pix-in-post at this year’s Ventana Sur Blood Window Screenings.

Both are sold, and Cardozo’s “Do Not Enter” produced by Guido Rud’s FilmSharks as sales agents, as this week’s American Film Market attests, are driving ever more into horror genre.

Unlike action thrillers and romantic comedies, the other go-to movie types in a market ever more attuned to streamer tastes, that could be that horror doesn’t need name actors. Mister Smith Ent.’s David Garrett said before the AFM.

Latin American genre is not so much as fitting into market trends as a push-phenomenon driven by genre fanboys and girls. Two at least make the cut, with Argentina’s Jose María Cicala, who will introduce his “Charming,” and Peru’s young Farid Rodríguez, who multi-tasks as a film and fest director,...

Every Jeepers Creepers Movie, Ranked
Image
The Jeepers Creepers franchise has had its ups and downs, with the original 2001 film being the standout and the recent 2022 reboot being the weakest. Jeepers Creepers: Reborn lacks the charisma and suspense of the original, turning the Creeper into a generic slasher villain and offering little originality. Jeepers Creepers 2 is a solid sequel that builds upon the Creeper's role in the franchise, featuring impressive sequences and a satisfying conclusion to the two movies.

There have been four Jeepers Creepers movies throughout the franchise, which vary wildly from brilliant to incredibly poor. The series started with Victor Salva's iconic original in 2001 and has since garnered two sequels and a reboot. While Jeepers Creepers fostered a cult following, the subsequent installments have had less success.

The Jeepers Creepers franchise depicts a monstrous humanoid creature known as the Creeper. The Creeper awakens every 23 years and has 23 days to harvest enough human...

Where To Watch All 4 Jeepers Creepers Movies
Image
The Jeepers Creepers franchise consists of four movies, each available to rent or stream online, featuring a unique monster that preys on humans every 23 years. The sequels and reboot of Jeepers Creepers have had mixed success but can still be viewed on various streaming and video-on-demand platforms. Watching all the Jeepers Creepers movies requires multiple viewing platforms, as no single streaming service offers more than one installment, but there are options to rent or buy digitally or purchase physical copies.

Following the release of the last installment in 2022, there are four movies in the Jeepers Creepers franchise, and each is available to rent or stream online. The Jeepers Creepers movies involve a monster called the Creeper, which stalks citizens of rural Florida every 23 years. The franchise has become a staple of the new-wave horror genre thanks to its creative storytelling and the uniqueness of the first film in the series.

Exclusive: It Star Nicholas Hamilton on Juggling Two Careers, Coming Out, and Welcome to Derry
Image
It's June, which means Summer is in full swing, and people across the country are celebrating Pride Month. Nicholas Hamilton, widely known for his antagonistic and terrifying role in the It franchise, recently spoke to MovieWeb, providing a fascinating insight into his experience in Hollywood.

Hamilton, a proud member of the LGBTQ+ community, who came out of the closet between his It and It Chapter Two appearance, has an interesting perspective of what goes on for actors behind the scenes, especially for those who have yet to come out. However, he isn't just an actor. Hamilton has made a name for himself as a musician, with a new single on the way on June 16. In his song, titled Spins, he shares the story of a former emotional connection in a ballad that acts as something different from his usual style.

Now, Hamilton is looking forward to multiple projects in the pipeline,...

Jeepers Creepers (2001) Revisited – Horror Movie Review
Image
This episode of Revisited was Written by Jaime Vasquez, Narrated by Jason Hewlett, Edited by Brandon Nally, Produced by Tyler Nichols and John Fallon, and Executive Produced by Berge Garabedian.

Before we get into it, let’s address the elephant in the room. This video is not condoning or supporting the behavior of the writer/director of Jeepers Creepers. And so the focus will not be on them and they will not be named. It is solely to focus on a film, not the actions of the filmmaker. It’s a hard line to walk with art and the artist when it comes to this film and wherever you land on how you view this is fair. But as a monster movie, we will review as just that… a movie.

In late summer of 2001, a modest budget horror film crept its way into 3,000 theaters across the country. That weekend, it...

‘Phenomena’ 4K Review – Dario Argento’s 1985 Horror Movie Returns to 4K With New Standard Edition
Image
Phenomena is a substantially different movie depending on how you first saw it. Audiences in its native Italy were able to see the original 116-minute film as director Dario Argento intended for its initial release in 1985. That cut was pruned down to 110 minutes for international release. In America, however, New Line Cinema cut the picture to 83 minutes before putting it out under the title Creepers in 1986. Finding its audience in the VHS rental market, this was the only version available in the US until DVD came around.

Each version has its advantages and disadvantages. The original integral cut contains everything, but it drags a bit in the middle and there are a few moments that were never dubbed into English. The international version is a bit tighter, mostly trimming frames and sacrificing only a few lines of dialogue. Those who grew up with the Creepers cut may prefer its punchier pace,...

‘The Fearway’ VOD Review
Image
Stars: Shannon Dalonzo, Justin Gordon, Simon Phillips, Eileen Dietz, James Politano, Briahn Auguillard | Written by Noah Bessey | Directed by Robert Gajic

Opening his directorial debut in an intriguing manner, Robert Gajic has a woman’s voiceover share the character’s biggest fear at losing someone she cannot imagine life without. Quick cuts on-screen show a frightened woman chased by an unseen figure as credits roll, with the juxtaposition of audible love and visual fear crafting an intrigue for what circumstances will occur. Sadly, what unfolds cannot match this initial intrigue.

Fiancées Sarah (Shannon Dalonzo) and Michael (Justin Gordon) are driving across a desert setting, passing the time with hypothetical situations. They’re journeying to visit Sarah’s ill father, as she hopes he’ll be able to attend their wedding. Their ham-fisted dialogue is interrupted by the car hitting something, despite there being no sign of whatever they hit.

Barbarian Director's Next Horror Movie Sounds Very Different But Intriguing
Image
Following a fierce bidding war, Barbarian director Zach Cregger's next horror movie, Weapons, is revealed, and it sounds very different but intriguing. This past September, the rookie filmmaker burst onto the scene with Barbarian, a surprise hit at the box office. The horror film, which was lauded by critics for its originality, genuine scariness, and strong performances, follows a woman (played by Black Mirror's Georgina Campbell) whose Airbnb is double-booked with a stranger (played by It's Bill Skarsgård). Soon, they quickly discover the real danger is lurking beneath the home's basement, owned by a disgraced actor played by Jeepers Creepers star Justin Long.

Since Barbarian was a critical and commercial hit, studios have been falling over themselves to work with Cregger on his next project. Now, following a fierce bidding war that saw New Line emerge as the winner, the Barbarian breakout's next horror movie has been revealed.

How to Watch Jeepers Creepers: Reborn
Image
It’s been 21 years since the original Jeepers Creepers introduced horror fans to The Creeper, the grotesque monster that not just hunts and kills but harvests and eats the organs of human beings. Two more years and it would have been 23 years, an auspicious number for Jeepers Creepers fans because this particular monster is known for surfacing only every 23 years to massacre victims for exactly 23 days. But better now than later. This is the year, after all, when iconic monsters come back. Leatherface, Pinhead, the Predator, Ghostface, and Michael Myers have all returned or will be returning to the screens this year. It’s the ghoulish grand reunion party The Creeper just can’t miss.

The Asshole Dies Screaming: The Underrated Horror Career of Justin Long
Image
It’s always fun to find one of your favorite actors in a horror movie. It’s especially fun to notice an actor in an upcoming horror movie, move to check their IMDb and notice a litany of other horror movies you’d maybe forgotten they starred in. But to go and watch all of said actors horror movies in sequential order? I know, I know. Somebody better stop me because I’m a wild person with no regard for danger. C’mon, let’s get nuts.

Justin Long is the subject of this completist exercise in honor of his not one but two recently released horror movies: Barbarian (In theaters) and House of Darkness (Currently available for rent on VOD). I’ve always considered him an underrated and charismatic actor with the ability to walk the line between “cool guy” and “total dork” as they are so often the same in real life.
