Although Netflix is primarily known for producing original TV series that are perfect for binge-watching, the streaming service doesn't overlook films, which have also been a significant part of its success over the years. As a result, in addition to bringing in new movies from third-party providers each month, it also releases a handful of original films.

Valentine's Day is a big day for everything with a romance theme and multiple streamers did everything they could to offer the most competitive lineups to their subscribers. Netflix doubled its efforts with a brand-new movie starring Scott Foley. According to Tudum, the move was a success, as La Dolce Villa proved love was in the air during the week of Feb. 10 and 16.

La Dolce Villa became the number one global film with 19.8 million views, the equivalent of 32.7 million hours viewed.

Netflix is once again turning a former theatrical flop into a streaming hit. 2019's "Don't Let Go," which stars Oscar nominee David Oyelowo ("Selma") and Storm Reid ("A Wrinkle in Time"), has found its audience more than five years after it failed to catch on during its original release. This is an interesting case where success may well be better late than never.

"Don't Let Go" has been rising through Netflix's top 10 most-watched movies list as of late and is currently sitting at number four on the streamer's charts, per FlixPatrol. It's even trending above other Netflix originals such as "Kinda Pregnant" and "Honeymoon Crasher." Not bad for a movie with a $5 million budget that made only $5 million at the box office in late summer 2019. But that's the power of Netflix, which generates more revenue than the entire global box office combined.

Time travel films have always been popular with viewers, and over the years, there have been several distinctive stories produced by Hollywood. One such film, the 2019 thriller Don't Let Go, has made a surprising comeback, recently soaring into Netflix's top ten charts after being added to the platform. Since its addition to Netflix on February 16, Don't Let Go has quickly climbed the streaming charts, reaching #4 in just two days. It's certainly not a small feat considering the fact that it has surpassed popular films like Kinda Pregnant and Rambo: Last Blood, both of which have done fairly well since their debut a week ago. Meanwhile, La Dolce Villa, Aftermath, and Trial by Fire are in the top three on the streaming chart, with Honeymoon Crasher, Uncle Drew, and Back in Action trailing closely behind, albeit it's been over a week since they have been added to the streaming service.

“Nosferatu” (Focus) and “Sonic the Hedgehog 3” (Paramount), two of the biggest hits last Christmas, are both coming to their studios’ streaming platforms less than two months after their theatrical release. That is a radical decrease in the amount of normal time before home subscribers can see a hit film for no extra charge.

In a week that saw four different films released no earlier than January 12 make the VOD top 10 lists, Mel Gibson’s “Flight Risk” (Lionsgate) currently is the most popular. At Netflix, the Italian-set rom-com “La Dolce Villa” capitalized on Valentine’s Day to take the #1 spot.

With the absence of any same-week streaming charts for all services, IndieWire normally concentrates on top 10 charts for VOD (which usually is the first stage of home availability) and Netflix’s same-day list. But the gravity of these two announcements overshadows our normal coverage.

I understand the effort it takes for a writer to create genuine moments of humor for the screen, but sometimes it so happens that they stretch a joke so much that instead of earning a laugh or two, it makes the audience cringe. Reality TV enthusiasts are in for a treat. Netflix is putting a strong focus on this genre with the return of Love Is Blind for its eighth season, along with the debut of Celebrity Bear Hunt, a fresh competition-based reality show. For those who prefer a gripping thriller, Netflix will drop Apple Cider Vinegar, a new series premiering on February 6 that’s worth keeping an eye on.

In other big news, the highly popular series Cobra Kai will release its final batch of five episodes this month, marking the end of the TV series. While it’s bittersweet for fans, this isn’t the last we’ll see of Daniel Larusso, as he’s set to appear in an upcoming Karate Kid movie hitting theaters later this year.
