Walt Disney Pictures hit it big at New York Comic-Con the other day with Big Hero 6 and now DreamWorks Animation just gave it a go with two of its upcoming releases, Home and Penguins of Madagascar. Home is an adaptation of Adam Rex’s children’s book, The True Meaning of Smekday, and focuses on an alien race called the Boov and their effort to make a new home for themselves – on Earth. And for those of you who haven’t kept up with the Madagascar film franchise, Penguins of Madagascar involves Skipper, Rico, Kowalski and Private teaming up with an inter-species task force called the North Wind to stop Dr. Octavius Brine from taking over the planet. Hit the jump for my Home and Penguins of Madagascar Comic-Con panel recap. Home After screening the film’s trailer, director Tim Johnson (Antz, Over the Hedge) hit the stage to share the short film,...

It’s fair to say that most of the famous movies that’ve revolved around the friendship between a young human and alien have involved a boy and an other-worldly creature (Elliott and E.T., Hogarth and the Iron Giant, etc.), though there are certainly memorable exceptions to that rule - Lilo and Stitch, being one of the better known. We can soon add another to that list in the form of Home, next year’s springtime release from DreamWorks Animation, formerly titled Happy Smekday! after Adam Rex’s source book, “The True Meaning of Smekday”. (Note: A 4-minute animated prologue to the film, titled “Almost Home”, has been attached to a couple of the recent DreamWorks animated releases.)

DreamWorks Animation's Home trailer is now online for your viewing pleasure. The Tim Johnson-directed picture centers on the Boov, a squat race of confident little aliens who relocate Earth's human population in order to take over the planet. One clever little girl manages to escape and eventually crosses paths with a banished Boov named Oh. You can probably guess where the story goes from there. This early look at the movie - the humor, the animation style, the dialogue - is pretty much everything you'd expect from Dwa's more run-of-the-mill films, but it's probably a safe bet that it'll be a fine film for the family. Featuring the voices of Jim Parsons, Rihanna, Steve Martin, and Jennifer Lopez, Home opens March 27, 2015. Hit the jump to watch the Home trailer. The first official trailer for DreamWorks Animation's Home appears below, followed by a related and previously released short film,...

Back in March, when the DreamWorks Animation adaptation Mr. Peabody & Sherman hit theaters, it was accompanied by a short film called Almost Home, which introduced us to the aliens that we would be following in the feature film Home. At the time, the film featuring the voices of Steve Martin, Jennifer Lopez, Rihanna and Jim Parsons was slated for release on November 26th, 2014. However, since Mr. Peabody & Sherman somewhat underperformed at the box office, it looks like Dwa is anxious to raise their bottom line, so they're going to release their spin-off The Penguins of Madagascar on that date instead. So now Home will be given the spring release of March 27th, 2015 that was originally meant for The Penguins of Madagascar. Captain Smek, leader of Boov, addressed the move of his story to spring, "We are very pleased to let Earth's most powerful penguins save the world before we invade it.
