In The Apothecary Diaries, there are four types of Consorts in the Emperor’s Imperial Harem. Gyokuyou is the Precious Consort, Lihua is the Wise, Loulan is the Pure, and lastly, Lishu is the Virtuous. It’s a complex system made so that the Emperor can have several heirs with them, minus Lishu.

Before Loulan, there was Ah-Duo, the Emperor’s first love, and Jinshi’s biological mother, who was forced out of the position. Prime Minister Shishou used Loulan as a tool to gain more influence in the Inner Court. He might have done Ah-Duo a favor, in hindsight.

Produced by Dave Cobb, Rushmere will mark Mumford & Sons’ first album since Delta in 2018. It’s also their first full-length effort since becoming a trio in 2021, after the departure of their original banjo player, Winston Marshall.

The single, “Rushmere,” sees the band return to a sound that’s more similar to their original banjo-plucking, kick-drum-stomping records than their more-recent foray into alternative. Venamoris, the duo of ex-Slayer drummer Dave Lombardo and his wife Paula, have announced their sophomore album, To Cross or To Burn, out February 28th via Ipecac Recordings.

The group also offered up a new single, a cover rendition of Scorpions’ “Animal Magnetism” that re-invents the song as a brooding industrial/darkwave piece. The lyrics and vocals (handled by Paula) are the only immediately recognizable elements from the original, as the Lombardos morph the arrangement with synth stabs and droning guitars.
