Well done and well acted. Mostly enjoyable- but the main character and his girlfriend were just flat, especially the GF, the main character did his job well but brought nothing more. The detective started off real likeable, realistic, clumsy but smart, then suddenly, halfway through the movie, enters Girl Boss - all others will fail with my plot armour!!! And she has a ludicrous, horribly executed CGI fight that was unnecessary.
Jason Bateman did a great job as a villain- but Hans didn't have McClain to dance with. Needed more wit and sharper dialogue between good guy and bad guy, huge missed opportunity.
It's sad that the only "original" Hollywood movies we get now are obvious rip offs of previous hits: still it could have been better if the lead had a little more fun and joy with His character.
Overall, if you don't mind a B action movie and are in the mood for something new, and ever felt empathy for the TSA, have a ball!

I gave it a ten by grading it on the curve. If it came out 10 years ago, I'd probably give it an 8, but compared to a lot of swings and misses over the past decade, especially the last 5 years, this is amazing!
First, the action is very fun and just realistic enough to not feel like another super hero extravaganza.
The comedy is subtle, sharp and A political, poking fun at Asian, American and Southern Californians (Coming from California, I especially appreciate that) making the humor feel classy.
The Characters are fleshed out a little bit more as the story unfolds, giving way to a deepening story line
The directing and editing are a breath of fresh air.
The shooting and story-telling is a nod to American-Asian Culture. What's really impressive is that the editing is sharp, like the older action shows, back before Netflix when every minute was a premium. The editor shows a respect for the viewers time.
The director has a fantastic sense of flow, moving seamlessly from family conflict, awkward comedy, to sensational fight scenes with a hint of mystery/cop drama thrown in for good measure.
If you liked John wick, any of the older John woo or even early Guy Richie, you will really enjoy this breath of fresh air....even if with it's occasional wisp of blood.
There is some R type violence and language, but through 6 episodes, the nudity and sexual content is very minimal, Which is also a nice change of pace, and I appreciate.
