Man, that film sucks so bad. It really is incredibly disappointing how badly it sucked. It's like a joke The Joker would tell in the first movie that only he got, but wasn't funny. The irony of that being the case is kind of funny though. But I'm pretty sure that the movie got almost universally slammed even before I viewed it, was that people didn't want to laugh at a terribly ironic joke of a movie. It was neither a continuation of the first film, where the protagonist anti-hero marches on, nor a continuing indictment of how the system and society, mocks and doesn't understand what they don't want to understand. And it was a musical to boot. Ughh. I hope all the money lost by the studio and damage to the credibility of Phoenix and Todd Phillips was worth it in the process. Because it wasted two hours of my life. Thankfully it didn't waste any of my money too.
National treasure of a movie. Now, my family and I watch A Christmas Story every year on Christmas Day. A bit of a tradition in our household. And it is the best. It's got more of that old-school vibe that harkens to Christmas time. But from a purely comedic standpoint, Christmas Vacation is better. And what's so great is that it runs through all of the mostly irritating things that a man has to endure that are associated with the holiday season! From tolerating your in-laws and distant relatives, to all of the painstaking stuff you're forced to do to "celebrate". They even throw in a Scrooge angle. I generally envy anybody who hasn't already seen this movie several times at the holidays. It's that good.
