"The Secret Life of Walter Mitty" is a movie that is enjoyable from beginning to end. It is a movie that depicts the life of a shy photo archivist who compensates for his introversion through fantasies. These fantasies, however, are symbolic of his desire to reconnect to his younger self--a time of being unconventional and more adventurous.
As a consequence of losing his father, Walter embraces an orthodox life: clean-shaven, employed, and financially responsible. This is how we are introduced to him, yet it is the beginning of his transition to recover certain aspects of his character that he had lost. Walter's quest to locate a missing frame of 35mm film takes us on an adventure that is comedic, poignant, and a little philosophical.
While we view this film, we experience his progression toward assertiveness and his drive to create a better reality. When this occurs, his fantasies subside and we are left with an adult as courageous as the one in his daydreams.
This film delights us with good acting, great cinematography, and visually-engaging transitions between scenes. Oh, and by the way, it has a great storyline.
I'll give it 9 out of 10 buckets of buttered popcorn.

This film is a poignant drama that depicts the dichotomized perspectives of U.S. citizens during World War II. Although heritage and physical attributes divide two groups of people, common interests (jazz music, baseball, and truth) bond them together. American Pastime also delves into the inner relations of two families caught on opposite sides of the fence and the upheaval of their respective traditional values.
When one resembles the face of an enemy, it leads to fear. Fear then leads to prejudice; then prejudice to discrimination. Could it be possible for love and truth to triumph over a chasm created by war?
Commendable acting by all the cast--there is also a touching performance by Sarah Drew. The cinematography is outstanding. I highly recommend this movie.
