I went to a private screening, not expecting much. It was one of those "found footage" films like the Blair witch project and Paranormal Activity.
I was expecting to be bored, but honestly after each passing minute in the film, it just got even more terrifying. Let me just tell you, this movie isn't just jump scenes, it's about the tension, and it delivers very effective shock and fright in some parts. It gets to the point where you are happy you're on earth. (Even though it's obviously fake).
I am very impressed with this film, I will rank it in my top 10 films of all time. And I'm not much of a horror movie goer. I recommend it.

I'm guessing this was some kind of prequel to the original. When I catched this on TV today, I figured this was a straight for TV thing since I've never heard of it.
It is about a man and his lover, and his annoying friend, who are traveling to one of their parent's house. They stop at a hotel Vacancy.
Well they check into the motel and get inside yadayada.
Now what baffles me is that we see this from the killer's point of view as well. I understand that this is meant to explain everything from the original, but what is the point? What made the original scary was the fact that we did not know why they were killing people.
Seeing it from a killer's point of view is interesting, but this film just isn't the right concept for it.
I give it 3 stars.
