When you know that the story is not new, you look at the film differently.
Adaptation takes place only for the country and time.
Therefore, the initial work deserves great applause. And subsequent works should pay tribute to the author of the first story. Rather than making money from his ideas and work.
But when cinema is not given worldwide distribution, how could it be otherwise?
Let them work better with sound and speech transmission. And any movie product, we would be able to understand and see. And not so that one story is changed dozens of times, but only with the help of decorations and faces.
That's how you make money, but you don't belong in culture.

There is no single genre here. Is it a comedy or a tragedy, a drama. Each viewer can decide for themselves.
Someone may be repelled by the "morning boner" scene, the characters' preoccupation with sex. But I suggest they be patient. Everything is much deeper than it seems.

Of course, this is already the development of a previously invented story, a plot. But it is very well adapted to the American audience and time.
