Alexander has a lot going for it straight from the beginning. True , his early years are put aside but not his moments of glory. The earlier films about Alexander covered his youth with the 1950's film with Richard Burton and later version with Colin Farrell in 2004. These films worked better at times but were no great box office hits. In this docuseries we get to see those around him and the workings of a shattered Persian Empire. Outnumbered in many way but the mind set of strategy overcame the obstacles. Thanks to Netflix we get to see a six part series of a Conqueror who knew no bounds and was smart enough to spare and preserve that which he ruled. The added feature is objective views of historians as the story unfolds.
It held my interest from the start and watched Sleeping Dog over two nights. There were times when I questioned certain situations that were lacking in probability as when the daughter of a police officer gets in a stranger's car because he says he knows her father. Some people in authority have shifty eyes and know one helps each other out. There never seems to be much traffic in Berlin and a scene where one party says we have to go to a place more quiet but they are the only ones in a park along a river. Yes, one elderly man is in the distance,so what. A young attractive district attorney is always acting like an undercover investigator running down alleys or entering dark cellars. She claims s she witness a murder and asks Should I got to the police ?
It barely held my interest because this woke movement is killing the historic element of the gone bye times. Also to many annoying foolish characters that show little class. Keep making movies like this and producers will see few in theater seats. Sam Heughan was mentioned in a posting that he dropped out of this film due to a scheduling conflict. I think he thought better after giving some thought to this woke story. There comes a point that people who enjoy historical period pieces are turned off. Bridgerton succeeded in many way but the formula can only work for so long. Copy cat after copycat is useless.
