I first view this video a few days ago. I had found it very interesting but yet disturbing. It tells a true life stories of three girls with very different problems. The first story is about "Pinky" who is on the run from the system. She is 14 years of age. She is a street smart girl who lives in allys, dodging truant officers and has hopes and dreams of a perfect life. The second story is of "Mars". She is all but 13 years of age and strips for a living. When she was younger she was molested by her father, her mom re-married and then was raped by her step-brother. Her story was the most disturbing for me. The film shows, with no holds barred her strip act...a lot of nudity. It makes the viewer wonder just how she will end up as an adult. The third and last story is of "Martha" who grew up in more than 20 homes and institutions. She now faces the reality of teenage motherhood. The birth of her baby puts new insight into her yet still she is unsure of what life has in store for her. The viewer cannot help but think that these are all girls who cried out for parental love that just wasn't there. The only problem I had with the movie as a whole was it never did a follow up on these girls with the exception of "Pinky" who was caught and taken away to be place in a foster home. Otherwise I gave this down to earth movie a 7 out of 10.
I read Terry Southern's book after I saw the movie, hoping to laugh like I did when I first saw the movie in 1970. Needless to say the film is LOOSELY based on the book. And it is no wonder that they needed extra writers for the film for the book was not that great. But over all I loved the film. The gags are often funny. Granted some do fall flat and often times unrealistic. But this has always been chewing gum comedy. Not a thinking persons comedy by any means. So if you just want to see some outrageous skits, this film is for you. Be forewarned however that this film is extremely dated and does not age well.
This film follows the trials of Zack Bass (Richard Harris), a hunter for an expedition led by Captian Henry (John Huston. He gets malled by a bear and left to die. The crew along with Captain Henry are faced with guilt and fear he is coming to haunt them. At one point even the indians believe he is dead. Zack survives the ordeal and uses his wits to survive. He encounters many things along the way back, that teach him just how precious life really is. The photography in this film is stunning. It is well directed and although there are very few lines in the movie, the soundtrack is beautiful. It is a pleasure to watch and you come out of this movie feeling wonderful. Highly recommended!
