While we all love Christopher Nolan for his iconic films this effort and his choice of actors and script in this Remake of the vastly superior original Norwegian movie is lacking and removing the gritty and yes toxic behavior of the leads in the original is missing as well. It's like this was the pg13 version of the source material and somehow USA Audience couldn't stomach to see Pacino do similar things showed in the original. What was the point of the ending? The original is clean and thought provoking this is a sort of redemption arc for the lead and a empowerment vehicle for the cop who was fan girly him early in the movie? It's clear we had to show more of her and take out the degenerate behavior of the lead.. the only bright spot is after this movie he went on a great run of movies he directed..
I'm have been a Gamera fan since I was a kid in 70s. I watched it with my son who is a huge Gamera and Godzilla fan. The story is almost astonishing where it goes and yes the animation isn top tier but when the battles with the legendary opponents it's epic. Imagine if this was live action with that script lol. Yes the adults are basically clueless and dumb and the kids save the day but this has been Gameras MO for decades. The Kaiju designs are a little risky but I appreciate there take on those legendary characters in the Gamera universe hell I have bought several of them for my collection.. recommend Stay with it the last episodes are worth it.
I'm all about slow burn dramas but it has be told effectively unfortunately this film isn't. It seems Jennifer's acting abilities effected the other crew as well. Joel look disinterested and there no chemistry from the leads In this film. For a movie that is over two hours we still don't really see her training and she isn't believable as a "red sparrow". At this point in her career regardless of her as a person and her idiot ideological rhetoric she is a one note actor. She dosnt have the capability to lead a movie like this and because she isn't a great actor she isn't raising the other crew or using her charisma to elevate a average script. Seriously watch her in all her films she plays the same character no range at all and never has any chemistry with her male leads.
