I was pleasantly surprised by this film, read the book a long time ago so it was not fresh in my memory. Which I think was a good thing, so you don't go comparing as much. I thought everybody was very well cast, especially the young Lily & Atlas. Blake portrays emotions well, not overdone and sublte, but I appreciated the nervous laughter and mannerisms you develop trying to ease the other person who is in a bad mood. And she did this very well, was it a cinematic masterpiece? No, but for portraying a story form a book, I thought it was well done, and there are many other movies and docs on this topic, and I liked it that this wasn't as violent. Again, it's from a book, so what do people expect. The underlying tension that gradually developes was very well done and portrayed and I loved how the story was told with the flashbacks. I already watched it a couple of times, that's how much I appreciated it.
The cinematography is great, such beautiful shots and you are taking along the story and flip in past and present. Which is really well done by the way, easy to follow. It's a revenge story, was very engaging, so intriguing, I was hooked from the first episode in. There are very unlikable characters and I was actually only rooting for the main character made out to be the villain. But what I must say is stick with it, the moment you think you know and then it gets thrown in a different direction, episode 5 I found especially cringey but don't give up. Makes me question some of the bad reviews here, like they just gave up on the story and left it there and then. Please continue watching, the story is told in a way that it does not always makes sense from the viewers perspective, but it does from a human perspective, because we don't always make sense. Too quick to judge, too quick to follow just one narrative. The less you know the better, just go watch it!
Came to this not knowing it was a marvel production, so even if you are not into that kind of stuff, this could still be something for you. Kathryn plays such a great lead as Agatha, she is so good at playing a crazy, seemingly selfish witty sarcastic witch. Aubrey plays a great villain role, and just everybody is very well cast. The story starts with Kathryn being a grouchy police officer. And then 'wakes up' and realizing who she really is and sets on a mission to get her power back. It is well paced, well told and as a viewer you are taken along as to how this all came to be while being on a fun ride which is the witches road. It has the best whimsical vibe, with just such fun characters, it is well paced without being rushed and just lets the story unfold and questions will be answered along the way. I was really sucked in the story and it is beautifully made while maintaining sustenance and well developed characters for whom you start to care for! It's just such a fun ride, I was really pleasantly surprised with how much I liked it, give it a go!
