What starts as a tense, creepy, something's-off-here cult movie ends as a confusing mess with little to no payoff.
The acting by the leads (Edebiri, Malkovich, Bartlett) was superb, whereas the other characters were all lacking depth, boring, and filler for the sake of what this movie considers to be "plot." Edebiri, as always, is fantastic at her craft, able to express so many emotions in her facial expressions, eye movements, and tone of voice. Malkovich is wonderful and plays the icon of Moretti perfectly. Bartlett plays a lovable asshole who you would never want as your boss, and he's damn good at the role.
A lot of the odd elements in this movie felt like things the writers threw in for the sake of making the movie feel more eerie and unsettling while simultaneously never offering any explanation or reason as to why they were included.
The first act felt a little long, act two ramped up way too fast and increased the stakes way too soon, and act three was a mess that had no pacing direction whatsoever. The very middle of act two felt like what should have been the midway point of act three, so when act three starts everything feels rushed to try and catch up with the feelings evoked already in the previous act.
What I watched was a hodgepodge of ideas with a half-baked story poorly attempting to tie it all together. It's as if someone mashed together Jonestown, pop icons David Bowie and Prince, Midsommar, and Get Out into a giant nothing burger. Really disappointed in this, though I still feel like it's worth seeing once just to feel the weight of certain scenes that were actually executed great. Even the cinematography was stunning, but the plot was a turd painted gold. 5.5/10.

I've finally reached my breaking point with Marcel fatigue. I wanted to like this but it's just another formulaic film with a different coat of paint. The editing was bad, dialogue cringey, characters with no depth. The first trailer released practically showed the entire film, another fault of post-Endgame Marvel projects. The forced comedy has caught up to me and I now understand why many people criticize the overuse of it in every project.
The one thing I liked about it is that it finally addressed certain loose ends in the MCU that relate to The Incredible Hulk and The Eternals. Otherwise, this film was one big nothing burger, a box on a checklist that Marvel can mark off as complete. They will use this as a tool to say "look we made a film with these characters were major comic plot points X and Y were covered so now we can move on to the next ones on our list."
For the first time on this long journey of being an MCU fan, since all the way back in 2008, I feel as though I have completely wasted my money on seeing one of their films in the theater. There have been shows here and there that I also thought were bad or just generally bland, but those were smaller installments of the franchise. This is the big feature film of Q1 and it feels like I just watched nothing. Complete disappointment.
I hope Thunderbolts is at least decent because I can no longer defend this franchise if it continues to produce less-than-mediocre content. Get better writers, Feige.

Haven't seen this movie in over 10 years. Completely forgot how amazing it is. Easily one of the best sci-fi/horrors to ever be made. The cast, despite most of them being relatively unknown, all played their roles in impressive fashion. The music set an eerie tone full of dread and unease. The set was so sick, I love that it was all practical. And the effects! Oh my god the effects were top tier, especially considering the time period this movie was filmed. Movies like this from the 80s just have a specific charm and nostalgia to them that is unmatched by anything else in the film industry. Loved it, cannot recommend enough, 10/10.
