Helen Mirren is amazing. The thing that was most breathtaking about her performance was it subtlety. It takes an actress who really believes in herself to make a character so believable without over acting. I think that's the difference between younger actresses and these tempered veterans. They have that special something, a confidence that allows them to harness the insides of their characters. We know so little about Queen Elizabeth. We eat only what the tabloids feed us and I know that's a perverse group that's poisoning the public to a large extent. In this movie, Helen's performance peels the onion for us and gives us a possibility of what the human side of this icon is. Truly inspired.
Mr. Reeves has had a very interesting career. I wonder if being in Bill and Ted set the wrong tone for him early on because he's done some very challenging work, yet still gets tagged as the empty headed surfer dude. In THE LAKE HOUSE he comes across very much like the character he played in Something's gotta give with Diane Keaton. The love story between him and Sondra Bullock actually reads well in many parts. And it's not just all her. I think it's his eyes that really come across. There sort of hurt puppy dog eyes. And I truly believed him to be a construction worker this movie...which is amazing to me regarding my prior notions about him.
I thought the concept was fascinating as well, although, at times it felt very much like a stage play. I did predict that pat ending pretty early on, but still enjoyed it as a nice light ROM drama.

I honestly wasn't a Lifetime channel watcher because the movies are always the same, but this one knocked me out. It was better than most I've seen in theaters. I thought I solved the mystery a couple times, but was wrong. Talk about plot twists! And everything added up at the end. The acting was very good across the board. Catherine Bell was great, totally believable and played the role very sympathetically on many levels without that typical Lifetime blubbering. I hadn't seen much of her before this. (I never saw Jag, but remember her from Bruce Almighty) We talked about the movie for twenty minutes after it ended, going over how things added up (like the Sixth Sense)and it really did add up. If you haven't seen it...PAY ATTENTION! There's one part we couldn't figure out...I won't spoil, had to do with losing some hair, but that's all I'll say, so I'm definitely watching it again to relive all those moments and figure that one out too. I never write comments on these sites. A+
