Saw this lovely film early this morning on Hollywood Suite accidentally while surfing channels so missed the first 10 minutes, but it was so well done, and I could gather what happened by further watching it, that I will definitely try to watch it again. Zoe Kazan, and the other main actors were great as well as to be expected the wonderful Bill Nighy. Not sure why the bad reviews either, perhaps from misogynists or bitter types, but I thought it was great! Well written, acted, directed and edited. Would recommend to any film lover with even 1/2 a brain! Should definitely have a higher score, I debated between a 7 or an 8.
VERY well done movie covering many subjects, aging, how we treat our elders, how music/food affects us, cultural differences, I could go on and on! Don't want to spoil anything so won't detail too much but young pre-med student starts at a nursing home job and meets an elderly resident who is almost catatonic, no words/eating etc. She discovers what makes him more aware and it changes her life as well. Great acting as usual from Louis Gossett Jr and I didn't know Ana Golja but she was great too. Many supporting actors also gave really good performances which added to the story/mood of the film. Music was great as well as the writing, simple yet complicated story. Having waited on seniors for a lot of my career I can tell you they often have GREAT stories to tell and we should pay attention to them. Many pieces of advice they gave me have come in handy. Overall well done, give it a look!
I don't know why the bad reviews, the only problem I had with this movie was to give it a 8 or a 9. Excellent story, refreshing Christmas movie, finally watched it in 2023, been wanting to, really good acting from Emilia Clarke, Henry Golding, Michele Yeah and a lot of others as well as of course Emma Thompson as usual. Really makes you think, which is good as some people don't do that, funny and sad, had it all in my opinion. I would definitely recommend this movie, but have some tissues handy. Good lessons for us all to remember! I will probably watch it again even though I know the ending because it is that good. Also love the way it was filmed and the London scenery as well.
