This long awaited movie starts off well enough, the main actress is likeable and the "synthetic" is too, although some of the others seem pretty dumb and it's hard to care about them.
It seems promising for the first half an hour or so but then when the CGI version of Ian Holmes arrives it goes downhill from there. The CGI is so bad that it looks as though a child made it on their home PC..... if you can't do it well then you shouldn't attempt it at all, let Ian Holmes rest in peace rather than making him turn in his grave.
But what is most infuriating is this idea that some directors have, that quoted famous lines from the original movies are somehow going to make the movie better by bringing some kind of nostalgic feeling out of you.....they do not.
Perhaps if a couple of quotes were used once or twice in a subtle way, but repeatedly doing this just makes it appear as though the director is unable to make a decent movie himself and has to rely on quoting the originals to "hit that nostalgia spot".
Furthermore in a movie that should have a dark and ominous feel to it, it just comes across as cheap and tacky. At one point after several cringeworthy quotes it reached a part where the synthetic person "Andy" kills an Alien and proceeded to say "Get away from her ... *pause*" ..... I sat up and screamed "dont you dare......dont you dare say it!!!!" Andy ..... "you ".
.... I have never cringed so hard in my life.
If you are under the age of 25 or 30 and were not brought up loving the originals or know them well then there's a chance you may like the movie, as it isnt too bad if it wasnt for this glaring problem.
However if youre from an older generation like myself and loved the originals, you will probably find yourself cringing as much as I did.

It is very difficult to rate this series since never before have I witnessed a series where there is such a monumental difference in the quality of each season.
Season 1 is ok, just ok, it has some nice moments, but it lacks the feel of Star Trek, has one or two annoying characters, some boring periods but it isn't too awful.
Season 2 starts off ok but quickly plummets in to something that is just plain insulting to every TNG fan and is clearly written by people who have never even watched TNG. The stupidity of the characters and the storyline will surely make you cringe the further you get in to it. It simply isn't Star Trek, just an awful drama played out by bumbling idiots.
And then comes Season 3...... Wow. They must have fired the previous writers and got people in who actually understand their target audience. It is for most TNG fans everything you could have wished for. A decent plot, space adventure, and many of the original TNG cast are back. The chemistry between them and the nostalgia you will feel to see them back together again will surely put a smile on your face.
My advice would be to give S1 a go, but then skip S2 entirely as it will simply leave a bad taste in your mouth. You can go straight to S3 without knowing or caring about anything that happened in S2.
It is a shame that they didn't get it right the first time. For me:
Season 1 = 6/10 Season 2 = 2/10 Season 3 = 9/10.

I really tried hard to like this, after reading so many positive reviews here I expected it to be like the original series or the next generation.
This series isn't star trek. What the writers failed to realise is that what made the original star trek series and the next generation so good, and so successful is that each episode (and movie) focused mainly on the storyline, it was about space exploration, technology, tacticle battles, interesting stories. Any kind of relationship drama and character back story was kept to a minimum and only added briefly when it was important to the story.
This series is 90% relationship drama. It's like watching Neighbours set on a spaceship. Far too much of it is just boring inane dialogue that isn't pertinent to the storyline, or character backstory that just isn't interesting and makes you lose interest.
Perhaps that is for some people since this series does have many good reviews, but if you're like me and find relationship soap drama boring then you probably won't enjoy this either.
