In short, this film ticks all the boxes. Great script, acting, cinematography, music and entertainment, which feels both original and energetic. I saw this film expecting to find a "Friend with Benefits" vibe and expectations were low. However, I was pleasantly surprised by a fresh plot (involving a love triangle) which feels genuine thanks to the great acting, and the consistency of the story line. In her first ever "adult" (as opposed to teenage) role, Zendaya delivers a mature performance that provides the plot with structure. Josh O Connor provides the edge, energy and instability that keeps you hooked and invested. Although passive, Feist unexpectedly becomes the prize that both Zendaya and O Connor are fighting for without even knowing it. The vibrant soundtrack and electric scenes gently slide you through the film, making you want to get into the ride again once you acknowledge it's over.
I'll keep it short. Most people watched this movie expecting to see gore, blood, and morbid scenes, and because they didn't, they labeled it as bad (don't be that basic! Otherwise we'll never make it past Avengers / basic flashy films). You won't get any of the bloody stuff - and that's what makes the movie impressive, because despite that, it is able to deliver with an array of good things it has instead. An important context.- before watching the film I hadn't even heard of Dahmer (just bumped into the movie on Netflix). That said, it was totally intriguing, captivating, and entertaining. The acting feels natural and so does the 70's atmoshpere. It is a psychological thriller of a real life story. After watching the movie I surfed the internet and realized the movie was able to tell the story exactly as it happened in real life. The movie is original, keeps you on edge, and makes you feel empathy with (what would later be) one of the most hated criminals of all time.
I consider myself an open minded person when it comes to movies. But this one just sucks. It's predictable, unoriginal, pointless, boring, just crappy. A crappy movie trying to justify its existence behind good actors (most of which don't actually play an important role) and a confusing, deliberate plot with many non-given explanations. It's the kind of movie you would find on a national TV channel on Sunday 10pm with translated voices. Just awful.
I am amazed that the direction and screenplay are so bad, and the lack of originality and thought behind it. The kind of movie that would be considered a great idea if envisaged by an 11 year old.
