Words really don't do it justice. I can't say that I understand all of it but that doesn't take away from the experience. Watching the film almost put me in a kind of zen space - I just experienced it. I didn't have to think about the plot or try to understand the motivation of the characters like you tend to do while watching other films. You just are in the moment.
The characteristics of the different animals is inspired. If you are a cat person you will recognize the classic cat behavior throughout the film and can likely relate it to your own feline at times. The yellow lab and the lemur are the other animals whose behavior I can say was perfectly characterized. The others were wonderful as well - but I am not familiar enough to say if they were typical.
Completely recommend.

I am a huge fan of F. Paul Wilson and have most of his books, including The Keep. When I had the opportunity to purchase the film on Vudu today I jumped on it. And as others have said, it is visually compelling. But the score does not begin to fit the story. Don't get me wrong - I love the Tangerine Dream score to Legend, but it does not fit this film. Scenes that should be moody and just confused because of the poor music match. I do agree with some commenters that the audio in parts is very difficult to hear - I blame the audio engineer / editor for that issue, not the film itself.
In regards to comments that the story is unintelligible, perhaps like other films (Dune springs to mind - the 80s version, not the current mess which is unrelated to the books...) it helps to read The Keep book first to grasp the context of what is happening.
In any case, watch the film and judge for yourself.
