This is one of those films I stumbled across on Netflix, knew nothing about it, read the one or two sentence blurb, checked the actors, and dove straight in without any expectations.
That's not always a good way to spend an evening, but I'd been trawling through different platforms and got annoyed and settled on this. I was blown away!
This skips back and forth over time but not in a confusing way. Everyone is stellar in it.
There's enough creepiness and misery to keep the tone going without making you feel too depressed.
There's different strands and plots but they all link like a spider's web.
I'm assuming some of the accents are a bit off, but then I guess even many American actors would struggle with that too!
Like I said, this is bleak with flashes of hope. I'll probably come back and give it a ten after I've watched it again!

I'm nostalgic for when Britain made great movies, and this is certainly one of them.
Comedy crime capers? Tick.
Totally out of tune with modern times but equally awesome saucy comedies? Tick And pretty creepy thrillers and horror movies? Tick and tick!
This is a creepy little thriller with some very nasty undertones, but that has the respect to not go there fully.
The only main woman in the cast isn't a victim, which given the unpleasantness she's subjected to, for the time, is pretty decent.
Us Brits have always had a preoccupation with the weirdness of boarding schools, and not for bad reason.
I always wanted to go to one. I did attend an all girls' school. I'm pretty certain if this film had been set in a girls' boarding school, it would be pure horror! And not of the sexualised St. Trinian's nonsense!
This is a solid, good, creepy film of its time. Bravo to all involved.

The only reason I gave it a two is because I did actually make it through to the end, although why I bothered I'm not sure!
It was also quite stylish, in its own way. Some of the outfits were stunning.
That said, the plot was completely obvious from the start and I kept waiting to see when everyone else would twig.
There was no plot twist as it hit you like a brick to the head within the first few minutes.
None of the characters were particularly likeable, especially the nice twin. Irritating doesn't come close, but I think that was meant to be the point.
I guess I could give it another point for the Titanic hand on the steamy car window, but I'm not feeling generous enough tonight!
