I watched this movie in theatre way back but had not seen it again since. I wanted to add it to my physical media collection but was waiting on the right copy. Recently, of all places, found a bluray combo with slip cover in my local small town general store for 10$ so i couldn't pass.
And well the movie is as fun as i remembered it to be. Sure its not "perfect" as for instance there is a lot of CGI (more on that later) and sometimes stuff is very convenient in term of timing and so on. But a movie does not need to be perfect to be enjoyable.
The movie is 2 and a half hour long but still have to "move fast" because there is a lot happening in it, so at times you do feel that "Mcguffin A" came very conveniently to find "Mcguffin B" wich will advance the plot. But to me this is minor stuff that i don't really mind in a superhero movie that truly goes for the "fantastic" side of things.
Because yes Atlantis is extremely colorful, its full of creatures with wonky designs, and therefore the movie relies a lot on CGI to animate all of this. On one side you may think its overdone, but at the same time, how else would you do an Aquaman movie where 75% happen below the surface?
Its a kind of movie that would had been pretty much impossible to do 20 years ago and even tough i am a grown middle age adult nowadays, i can still apreciate that kind of movie that is obviously made with children in mind and to give them a "cool adventure". I really wish i had that kind of movies when i was a child.
DC also had a lot of criticism for trying too hard to be dark and gritty, so this movie came at a right time for a different experience.
Now i know this may come a bit controversial but this movie also remind me how i miss Amber Heard. Yes what she did in real life was not right, but i always liked her as an actress and i think she was great in this movie. While her and Jason Momoa may not have had the greatest chemistry in the world, i do think they had some and gave us a believable duo.
Outside one little reference from Justice League, this is pretty much a self confined movie so even tough the "Snyderverse" may be long gone, its still a movie you can enjoy on its own anytime. A solid 8 out of 10 for me. Not perfect, but one very good time.

Been a while since i watched a movie. I normally watch several per week but must had been 2 weeks now. I was too much into tv/streaming shows i guess. Anyhow i decided to put one from my physical backlog from the now shut down video store wich is decreasing slowly but surely.
So how was this movie? It was ...alright i guess. Its a very typical home invasion thriller, and i insist on thriller. Even tough the mother "Shaun" do have a few moments, it want to stay more grounded in real life (at least at the core) and you never feel that "fun" and "satisfaction" you would have with a movie like Becky for instance (wich i totally recommand if you never saw it). The few moments you suppose to feel she is a "badass" didn't really felt as it to me.
The issue with this movie is that altough the house invasion start fairly early, wich normally i would say is good, the movie never really spend much time on either the familly (and the relationship with the dead dad) or even the robbers. You know the basics and thats about it.
So to reach the runtime of 90 minutes (ish) the movie extand some scenes like characters looking around and such. It may be aimed to build tension but i never really felt it.
Overall there is nothing terrible about it, and Gabrielle Union does a perfectly credible job as the main character, but at the same time i never was really "that into it". I took a break mid-movie to put something in the microwave and ended it eating like i would in front of a youtube video.
Now that it is done from my backlog, its going in my "to sell" pile. I can't say i was overly bored or anything watching it, but i have no desire to watch it again. This one will be a 5 out of 10. Its a very average movie. Not bad, not great, just "fine to waste 90 minutes". The kinda movie a rental at 1 to 2$ on sale on a platform would feel fine.

The idea of mixing a romcom with a slasher is not that weird in itself, as most slashers have love interests in them, yet i don't think it was ever done as the principal focus. And this movie may explay why.
What is fun in a slasher is obviously seeing a masked killer take out characters one by one in gruesome ways, while in some movies also searching for who is under the mask, while others have an iconic killer you followed for years in multiple sequels. But this movie somewhat try to do a lot of things, but hardly fully suceed at any. That said, its still very watchable.
So for a start the movie follows a bit the structure of a Scream movie with an intro kill, introduction to the killer, and then some kind of guessing game on who it might be. But it also want to be a romcom, so it focus a lot on 2 characters wich said killer has decided to focus on itself.
What happen is that you switch between romcom moments and killer chasing them, and it hardly ever drive away from that. Of course as a slasher, you need a bodycount, and the movie deliver in that regard, but majority of the kills are characters you don't know at all and don't care whatsoever. So you never have that feeling of dredd as "will your favorite character be axed next" and such.
The dialogues in general are also weirdly written and some characters almost felt like they were coming out of Scary Movie. Thanksfully the 2 leads are charismatic and likeable, wich save it partially.
Otherwise, as i mentioned above, the movie does deliver on gore and and violence, but often it is done in such a detached way that it is simply funny rather than scary.
The movie also felt a bit like a sequel despite being the first one, as the killer already was active previous years in the movie's universe and the police know it, peoples know it, some kids having mask of it, it felt a bit "off" and unearned in my opinion.
The movie also want to portray the killer too much like an undestructable "Terminator", with litterally having foot step sound effect that make it look like it weight as much as Robocop. There is a scene related to that aspect (Terminator-style) that is certainly satisfying for gore hounds, but make no sense in a grounded reality.
With all that said, even with some negatives standing out very evidently, the movie is still enjoyable to a degree if you are into slashers. If only for the violence and the 2 main characters that are likeable. Would be a 6.5 but not a 7, so i round it up at a 6 out of 10.
