The premise was great and it started off great. As others mentioned, half way through, the too many unnecessary flashbacks took away from the dynamics of the story. The "action" was often completely unrealistic but the beautiful scenery and the "what happens next?" kept me watching. As they tried to incorporate some sort of the mind / spiritual perspective, it only barely worked. A wasted potential. I could see this as a 90 minute movie remake with more focus on the wilderness survival skills.
This is a weird movie. Maybe if I rewatched it, it would make more sense, but I have no intention to. Some parts were quite funny, some hilarious in its spectacles rather than the story, and some just plain confusing.
It was not the movie of the year as some say, nor the complete mess as others argue. I think it was somewhere in between. I was intrigued throughout the lengthy piece but often wondering if it's going anywhere. I have mixed feelings about it and would rather watch something "normal" next, as much as I loved the talking rocks!

I have worked at 3 pubs over the past 20 years and my wife is a general manager of a fast-casual place in the USA. We watched together. I loved it; she not so much.
I loved how they managed to film the whole movie in just one shot. No cuts, no CGI, no enhancements, no second takes. That is just brilliant!
The movie also greatly portrayed many of the FOH and BOH issues, and while it was overall a draining experience, I found myself giggling here and there.
I guess my wife was not ready for this ride. She hated how the prep people were not wearing gloves, how the chef was always "taking a minute" while it was busy... and as an awesome GM that she is, it left her angry watching this movie develop and end. She said she'd give it a 5.
Different perspectives, different scores.
We both found it memorable!
