This one's a personal favorite of mine. I started skating when I was 13 and not long after getting my first skateboard I watched this movie for the first time and of course was even more inspired to go out and skate every day. If you haven't seen this movie yet then what are you waiting for? Get your hands on a skateboard and turn this movie on and enjoy. You're gonna want to try skateboarding when watching this one so that's why I recommend getting a board before starting it. Next get comfortable riding your board then take it to your local skatepark and keep practicing. Boom now you're a skater.

And if you have seen this movie but haven't watched 'Dogtown and the Z boys' then that's your next assignment. They made the documentary first and then this movie was made to be a full length film version of the Z boys story and they couldn't have done a better job. I really only have good things to say about this one and don't have any knocks on this movie and wouldn't change anything about it. I've only reviewed movies on here that I could criticize before so when it comes to reviewing a movie I absolutely love I'm pretty much only going to be singing it's praises and not much else. If you have seen it then go skate and if you ever want to get pumped to skate keep this movie around.

I'm not gonna say this is a an objectively good movie or a classic comedy by any stretch. It's one of those dumb comedies that we all love to hate and no one takes seriously. We say movies like this suck and laugh about how dumb they are but that's kind of the point. Movies like this weren't made to be taken seriously. You think the people who made this movie really were trying to get high praise from movie critics? No movies like this are made cause comedies do well at the box office and theirs a business to keep em coming even if we say we hate them and call them stupid we still keep paying to see them.

Im not gonna do a thorough analysis of the positives and negatives of this movie because come on it's not meant to be taken that serious. I'll just say there's some entertaining and funny stuff here that's aged well and if you've got some time to kill on a late night then you could do worse than turning this movie on.

This review is going to mainly going to be about the Portrayal of James Dean and not the other elements of the movie so I'll get right to it. To put it frankly, I didn't buy Dane Dehaan as James Dean. The resemblance just isn't there. This is a role where looks matter and Dane Dehaan can't really fill the James Dean 'silhoutte' or bring the stature and good looks needed to pull off James Dean. The characters James Dean played in his movies were all studs because James Dean was in fact a total stud. No offense to Dane Dehaan but we've never seen him play a stud before. Most of his roles are teenaged characters who are troubled, quiet and kind of physically unintimidating and prone to getting bullied . Not exactly James Dean material.

We didn't really get James Dean here. It was basically just watching Dane Dehaan play an aloof young guy who sounds kind of like Kermit the frog and acts like a stoner burnout. You can't really get edgy and charismatic James Dean from Dane Dehaan. As good as an actor the guy is he just couldn't really pull it off for this role.

The rest of the movie isn't worth saying much about even though good efforts were made all around. With the right actor playing James Dean this could have been a good movie maybe even a great one depending on the performance. If you stuck around till the end they show the pictures of the real James Dean which was the real pay off of the movie for me.
