This movie takes the amazing 1994 revenge movie classic, and flushes it down the toilet, replacing it instead with a generic YA emo flick, with two of the most uncharismatic leads I've ever had the misfortune of trying to watch carry a movie.
This was so bad we actually walked out half way through, after sitting through an hour or so of watching two drug addicts fall into love in rehab, and a subsequent absolutely cringeworthy montage, instead of anything to do with the actual plot of the movie. From reading other reviews, it seemed that all I missed was a 20 minutes section of actual action at the end as the payoff for all this meandering, so I don't regret that decision.
I am not in any way overexaggerating when I say that not only does nothing actually happen for elongated periods of time, but the gritty gothic noir style crime story that made the original so memorable is gone, and replaced with some supernatural hokum about heaven and hell, and with "romance writing" so bad that it's up there with the "I hate sand speech" from the 2nd Star Wars prequel. At one point the female lead asks man if he would follow her if she jumped off a bridge and all I could think was "what are you waiting for?".
Just do yourself a favour and watch the 1994 original. It's really good. This is an abysmal turkey of a movie that should never have been made and if it's the death of this particular franchise, then we should all breathe a sight of relief.
1 star because IMDB does not let me rate it any lower.

I made the mistake of spending real money to watch it after seeing it compared to Police Squad (the series that spawned the Naked Gun movies) on social media. Don't make the same mistake as me!
And yes, it's trying hard to be a British version of Police Squad (in fact too hard. It recycles some of its jokes). But the script writers and actors don't seem to understand what made the jokes and their delivery (as perfected by Leslie Nielsen) work so well in that show. As a result it comes off more like embarrassing fan fiction than something worth watching for its own sake.
It also starts to run out of steam before the end of the first episode, repeating running gags well beyond their welcome, and trying to be funny by having not one, but two "dramatic reveals" stretched over minutes of silence and forced stares. That's not funny, it's boring, and we all know it's done to fill the runtime.
The most I can say for it is that some jokes made me smile, but most alternated between being either pretentiously self-congratulating, or juvenile, which nothing much in between.
Save your money and/or time and re-watch the Police Squad franchise instead. That show and the Naked Gun movies that followed it have stood the test of time well and are as funny as they ever were.

Reading the other reviews, most people's main (basically only) complaint is that Jackie Chan isn't the star of this movie (him and his Police Story character do have a brief cameo, but it's more like a comedy sketch in the middle of he movie than anything overly relevant to the plot). Michelle Yeoh is the star. Why he's listed as having a starring role is a mystery.
But boy, does she deliver. This movie is much more serious (and graphically violent) than Police Story 3, which it's a spin-off of, so don't go in expecting the same type of light hearted action/comedy that you get with Jackie Chan movies. It's a different kind of film. But it's a very good action thriller, and that's thanks in no small part to Michelle.
The story is good, the action and stunts are as up there with the best of them, and it's easily able to stand on its own feet. See this to watch a really good martial arts movie with Michelle Yeoh and you won't be disappointed.
