ConnorAsher

Connor Asher is an American puppeteer and entrepreneur. In 2014, Asher founded Creventive Puppet Company, LLC.

Through Creventive, Asher created and self-produced four of his own live touring theatrical puppetry productions performing well over 100 shows per year for libraries, schools, festivals, and camps for family audiences throughout the USA. In addition to his own shows, Asher lent his hands to a variety of television, film, and stage productions as a puppeteer. 

Asher’s credits include: “Pete and Penelope�, “The Insurance King� and “Opera In Focus�.

In addition to performing, Asher offers educational performance and construction-based puppetry workshops for both children and adults. In 2017, Asher lent his talents to the Buck’s Rock Performing and Creative Arts Camp as the head of the puppetry shop, created in collaboration with the Children’s Television Workshop.

Asher also works as a freelance puppet designer, builder, and consultant working directly with clients to help bring their vision to life, worldwide.

Asher was initially attracted to the art of puppetry through the work of Jim Henson and Fred Rogers, whose characters captivated his imagination. At the age of 3, he was bitten by the theater bug when his grandmother took him to see a show at the Rosemont Theater. Shortly after, Asher began performing small shows utilizing both puppetry and dance in his parent’s basement for friends, family, and kids in his neighborhood.

At the age of 6, his parents separated, and the basement flooded, washing away his theater career.

Asher forgot about theater for many years but still pursued creative outlets, including drawing, writing, and video content creation. In 2009, Asher landed a partnership with Maker Studios VIA YouTube, which lasted many years. While in high school, Asher formed a new partnership with a young man who became his friend and collaborator for many years, that re-introduced him to the world of puppetry and theater. Ever since then, he knew what he wanted to do for the rest of his life. 

Asher was primarily self-taught because of his high school limited resources and discouraging teachers, which lead to Asher taking as many arts, theater, and business classes outside of school. 

Because of the support and encouragement of his mother, Asher had the opportunity to travel, network, and mentor under other artists in his field. One of his most significant influences were some of his teachers from the Stan Winston School of Character Arts. Through this, Asher discovered his love of teaching and the importance of teaching an art form to the next generation.

He joined the Puppeteers of America in 2014, attending regional and national festivals, which opened his eyes to many forms of puppetry and a community of puppet professionals and enthusiasts.

Over the years, Asher was heavily involved as a volunteer with The Chicagoland Puppetry Guild, Magic Wheelchair, The Great Lakes Regional Puppeteers Potlatch Festival, and Kiwanis Club of Oak Park-River Forest.

Awards include The Mike and Frances Oznowicz Young Adult scholarship to attend the Puppeteers of America’s National Puppetry Festival in 2017. Along with receiving a scholarship in 2019 to attend the Eugene O’Neill National Puppetry Conference.

Asher hopes to continue his mission and passion for creating memorable characters and quality puppetry for many years to come.
