Blackhat is fairly good overall, has high points, but many weaknesses and overall a clear step down from Mann's previous work even Miami Vice. It's really a damn shame. I'm a huge fan of Mann, huge, understand his stuff completely. Blackhat doesn't have enough character development and is overall just off feeling most the time...not like Mann. Honestly makes me wonder what was up with him. 70,000,000$ budget. It could of been a masterpiece. Mann had the right idea but things definitely did not com together as envisioned. I have a high standard for Mann but in terms of the average movie this ranks above average.
Complete masterpiece. Defining horror film. Films like this don't happen today. It's truly such an incredible film beyond what saying that typically means today. It was such a serious accomplishment to have made this masterpiece in the early 1970s. One of the most important films ever made. It's a landmark in film and more. One of my favorites. Best horror film ever made. As film critics Mark Kermode's favorite film I agree and it has high re-watch value
This film has very fortunately been restored by Criterion so now we have appropriate access to the film and an excellent remaster of it. The film is better than I original anticipated. Timeless film. The story and themes are relevant today. I can think of a couple films like it from more recent years, but this one is like the master of them all. Excellent characters and performances. Arguably, the casting could not have been better. This film was ahead of it's time. Even the sense of humor it has is just modern. There's a lot of depth. Definitely a film that must be seen again and again to fully absorb. It should make one wonder. May this film go down in history and live on.
