Folks, Denver Jackson solo'd this film. In making this he has looked at Lucas Film, Studio Ghibli, Production IG, Disney, heck everybody who makes film or animation of any kind and said "you losers need to get on my level".
Not to overhype this, but I used to wonder what it was like to watch Star Wars in 1977. Now I know. This is a cultural force of nature that is going to influence every film company and animation studio on the planet.
What the hell do you mean that one guy animated, wrote, and directed this? How did a single dude one-up massive multi-billion dollar production studios?
This is what happens when an artist has total creative freedom and the will to dominate everyone who came before.
This film has everything lovers of science-fantasy crave:
Legendary world building, fascist empires, high-stakes, one-on-one duels between magic weilders, snub-fighter chase scenes, a bad-ass villain, flawed heroes, an incredible original story, the works.
I thought the animation was a little bit jank to be completely honest, but when your delivery is this good it doesn't matter. Miyazaki should just gift Studio Ghibli to Denver Jackson at this point.
This movie has kicked the bar so high we may not live to see something better.
