Die Erbe des Guldenburgs... the Guldenburg inheritance. As a dutch person I can understand German without any problems, so I had the chance to enjoy the series when it first was on Germand TV (ZDF). I loved the glamor, castles, cars, jet set and the intrigues. The story is better then a standard soap series, with good story lines. In fact the whole story is about what can happen if the head of the family suddenly dies, in the strength of his life, without having made preparations for his wife and children, nor for his bastard child and his mother... who he secretly visited weekly.
After his death (car accident) all comes together, all are confronted by human items: greed, weakness, love, anger.
Anyway: a very good series, although at the end it was getting less interesting if you ask me. I am glad I recorded all though, it is nice to see them again occasionally... but then: I am a TV series addict!

It has been some time since I saw the movie, trying to find it somewhere... it gives a very good idea of how dirty a game can be played to the costs of many... It is a very interesting story, and brought to the public almost as if it were a documentary, how people were seduced to buy stocks, how the acquisition took place, and how the "big shots" decided to drop the market so the can benefit from it as much as the want: because of this "black day" on Wall Street the world was in a financial disaster that has influenced many around the world, and destroyed the small investor.
Anyway Richard Crenna in a part that suits him well. Especially that very mean: "he he" when he talks with so much disrespect about the "fools that bought stock" I do remember very well.... after more then 20 years!

The books of Cecil Scott Forrester were brought to my attention by my first English teacher and I am still thankful for that. The books about Hornblower are in a series of 12 volumes and they are all great. The strength of the 8 episodes (TV movies) with Ion Gruffith are very very well in there description of the characteristic doubtfulness of the character Horatio Hornblower. In this movie, however, there is not as much time as in the latter TV series... where the TV series only describe part of a book, this movie is the story of 3 books in all. Keeping that in mind, Gregory Peck makes quite a good Hornblower in a great story, that more takes the action from the books then the doubts of the main character. But what great actions! This movie is really, even after more then 50 years worth to watch. It hardly has aged.... it is an excellent movie... and I wonder: why is it so hard to get? I had expected that this movie would be for sale on DVD in all regions. Pity it is only a hard to get movie on NTSC VHS tape, because the movie is of such quality that it can most certainly be compared with the TV series, and... of course keeping in mind it is 50 years older, with "Master and commander, the far side of the world" from that other great novelist in this topic: Patrick O' Brian.
