I understand that people are mad about the adaptation not matching their expectations. Hollywood does have a habit of ruining perfectly good source material.
I've always wanted to play the games, but I have an issue with motion sickness... so I have no idea what's 'wrong' with this film.
It's not as bad as people are saying. I thought the cast was great, aside from Kevin Hart - I can't stand him, I don't think he's funny, and he always plays every role exactly the same. The big guy in the mask also sounds like he took voice coaching from the 90s Mortal Kombat actors.
Aside from that, I think the rest of the cast deserves better; Cate Blanchett is immaculate in everything she does, Jamie Lee Curtis was fantastic, and the kid in the bunny ears has more talent than many adult actors. The film was interesting, funny, and entertaining enough to keep my attention. I judge a lot of movies on their rewatchability and I would definitely see it again.
The low rating should be a message to Hollywood that if they want to make a film with an existing (and invested) fan base, maybe don't screw with their expectations.
Long story short, I'm bummed this bombed, because I want to see more video game adaptations, and studios will use this as a cautionary tale.

I finished it because I felt like I had to, but there was no point to this garbage. It doesn't add anything to the universe, there are no familiar characters, and it basically refutes canon events and circumstances that have been around for decades. I thought it would be interesting because it's set before the original trilogy, but I could have spent my time doing yard work and looked for meaning in the clippings - it would have been about as entertaining and enjoyable as this dumpster fire of a series. I've seen movies in languages I don't speak that have made more sense than The Acolyte. What a hideous waste.
This was an excellent movie. I wasn't sure what to expect going in, but it absolutely delivered. The pacing was interesting, like the idea was to make you focus so much on the relationships between the characters that you forget the lead has a problem most young adults probably won't encounter.
The atmosphere is brilliant and dreadful. The plot is absolutely wild, and the acting was far, far better than it had any right to be. I got serious Meryl Streep vibes from Bobbi Salvör Menuez.
If you're considering it, give it a chance. Some of the scenes were a bit weird but overall, I really enjoyed it.
