I'm surprised there are so many haters. I have no allegiance to anyone in this film and purely looking at this as an entrant in the action thriller genre. I'd probably give it a 7.5 but given I can't do that I'll round up to an eight. The acting is good, story is a lot of fun, fight scenes seem quite authentic, there's a love interest and it also tugs on the heart strings a bit. There are a few incredulous moments but compared to the latest mission impossible (2023) it was 10x less. If you don't like graphic and realistic violence I don't think this is for you. If you don't want to see people get hurt or killed, pick another film. But if you want good action at a nice pace with some backstory and character development then I think this is for you.
This film has quickly become one of my favorites of all time. It's not just the topic which I find interesting, it's the attention to detail and depth of the film that really pulled me in. This is one of those films that you can watch over and over a dozen or more times and I promise, each time you will learn at least one new thing. I think watching with captions on added another layer because sometimes the captions would reference sounds or phrases I couldn't hear myself. The acting was really amazing as well. Every character had a strong presence, especially Gordy. You may not understand this film the first time, give it a chance and another and another and you will observe greatness. M.
The acting was fine. The direction was fine. The cinematography was spectacular. There was mystery and suspense and twists and turns. An overall satisfying experience. It's true some scenes are contrived and a bit over the top. Also the twist is much easier to figure out than we want. But it's still a good film. And for scott Eastwood to get this kind of film early in his career is actually a good thing. He should be proud. There are a lot more seasoned actors with big budgets doing much crappier work that this film, so they should all get some kudos. Some of their casting choices were a bit off though, if you are doing to represent Mexicans why not just get Mexican actors instead of white actors, that's lame.
