WELL WHAT CAN I SAY?... AWE INSPIRING A TRUE CHICK FLICK, DAVE CLINTON IS A HUNK OF A GUY AND I'm A HETEROSEXUAL ape As well. ANYWAY HES NOT IN THE FILM, THE FILM HOWEVER LEFT ME MENTAL, PHYSICALLY AND EMOTIONALLY SCARRED FOR 5 MONTHS, THEN I WAS CURED BUt i am now suffering from insomnia and diahrea only in the morning between 4 and 6.15. the best part of the film was when the credits were rolling at the end it had me on a natural high for at least what i can consider to be about 5 8ths of a donkeys lifespan. but then you have to say, NO this is my life and you cant tell me what to do, I'm a chuck Norris fan, i own you, your but a mere toucan to me, a mere one! but no seriously this film is not funny and in my opinion it should be classed as a video nasty and banned. after viewing the film with my optical sensors and listening with my audio devices that are located on the side of my face i have depicted the true meaning about black pudding. it's just a excuse to put all of the rubbish thats left of a hog into on measly portion of indepence. pooch, shelves, trashcan, elves and mantoes are all a current feature in this movie and i have to say that were a completed waste of time and they have been used far to to many time in these chauvinistic capitalist films about the grime raper. yes thats right the grim raper not grim reaper.
I went in to this film with high hopes, intrigued by what had potential to be an interesting and funny movie. However, leaving the cinema I was sorely disappointed for a number of reasons.
Firstly, the film doesn't seem to have enough plot to fully fill the time it takes. It seems to me like three quarters of an hour of plot have been stretched over a much longer time and it made me wonder when the story was going to start moving. The plot line is very basic and very predictable, which is a huge disappointment because it had the strength to go much further. Also, I won't tell you the ending but I personally found it an extremely poor ending that left me feeling confused. In certain films the ending used could be brilliant but here it just wasn't pulled off. Soo basically, the film is sparsely plotted with a huge anti climax of an ending. It is a very predictable movie with most jokes being unoriginal, Jim Carrey clichés.
There are certain saving graces from which this film earns it's five point and those are a good soundtrack (any film with 'What I got' by Sublime is worth a few point in my books) and although they are few and far between, this film has its moments - Carreys performance of 'I believe I can fly' and the trying to kiss with badly bruised faces bit to name two.
So on the whole this is a very watchable film but it is weakly plotted and let down further by an even weaker ending. If you like Carrey a lot your sure to enjoy it but don't expect a masterpiece.

I really did enjoy this film. I have never listened to the original radio show version of the hitchhikers guide to the galaxy but I am a firm fan of the TV series and of course the truly brilliant book series. I thoroughly recommend the books to you (all five although this is only the first) as they are some of the finest, funniest book ever written and what of this film that is true to book is excellent, 10 out of 10 stuff. And Martin Freeman as Arthur Dent is possible THE perfect choice. Whoever did that bit of casting is a genius.
So it would seem that I love this film as is is possible but there are reasons as to why this film is a 6 for me. Without wishing to give anything away there is an extra storyline completely alien to the book featuring a new character, Humma Kavula. While I know that this extra storyline is from the Brain of Douglas Adam's I just can't get into it. It seems out of place with the rest of the film, possibly because I love the book so much. Secondly, this book to me feel like a very British classic and I can't see characters like Zaphod and Ford Prefect as American, as they are in the film. While it is a good film and is brilliantly made, these two point lessened my enjoyment of it, leading to my six out of 10.
Of course I do recommend this film, even if just for the brilliant MArtin Freeman but fans of the book be warned about new story lines. Still, a funny and enjoyable film you should see....
