If you're going to veer off so much away from the source material, why even use the same name?
This shouldn't have been called, "A Series of Unfortunate Events," but actually inspired by, "A Series of Unfortunate Events."
Even though it tries to bring ideas and lines from the book this doesn't have the tone or the narrative or the mood from the book.
Count Olaf is a joke instead of something to be actually scared of. Everyone has become into a complete comic character and there are added stories and plot lines, at which point this shouldn't have had the same name as the book.
I stopped watching after the second episode.

Excellent as a fan project, horrible as a movie.
In Death Note, literal Gods of Death decend to the earth and start interacting with Humans. Even then that shows keeps logic intact while being structured in a way that it makes sense..
I am not comparing it to Death Note but all I am saying is, I don't mind ghosts, supernatural and the likes as long as the story is good.
If the story is good, I can accept a bit of bad acting, some little loopholes and even logic to some extent.
It's when the story isn't good we start to look for things to point to and say, that's why I didn't like this. But that's the truth with it, the story isn't good, neither in small parts, neither as a whole.
It's great if you saw some clips of it online like I did but as a whole movie, no it doesn't work.
Update: I like to read reviews and see ratings after I have watched the movie myself and have wrote my review beforehand so as to not be influenced by it and I gave it a 2 star. Now I am wondering what am I even giving 2 for? I guess it's 2 for effort.
I can think of so many ways this story could have become captivating with the same actors, same cast, same creepy clown guy and the same general setting. All this movie needed was a good story.
